I'd find out whether the engine is definitely NOM or not before becoming discouraged. You should be able to tell if the car likely had side pipes from the factory by closely inspecting the rear panel, look for evidence of slots being covered or filled in? It looks like a fairly well optioned car, worth having a look before dismissing.

Get the VIN too. I was able to contact old owners using the registry and walked away from a few with what they told me.

Keep in mind shipping costs because coast to coast is not cheap.

Also pictures hide so many paint flaws you need to see it in person or pay someone too.

I had a Forum member look at a car for me and said no way. Looked great in the pictures.

Seriously, I was so ready to spend the 370 bucks for an inspection. No way I can view the car myself and even if, I am way too inexperienced to find anything suspicious. And naive I guess, because I knew about the missing trim tag and didnt bother too much about it. :withstupid:

Someone knows. They just haven't told you. Ask where the trim tag is and why it was removed? Sounds like a repaint.

Ask for verification the side pipes are factory.

What type of "customs" do you have to pay to get a car from Florida to California?

Good find. The 3956618 is good for a '69 block, and I do not believe they were made after '69. My bet would be that it is the original block, still confirm.

Everything else is long gone.

Note: Under "owner appraisal" its listed as the original block.

Even it was a repaint, why on earth would anyone remove the trim tag?

Customs 6% (minimum) as I need to ship through Holland to Germany. I see I have my old Santa Rosa location in the profile. Changed it, as I now permanently am back in Munich.

The seller does not know where the trim tag is. Oh well....
I have some more or less good undercarriage pics which I will post tomorrow. Looks ok IMO, but then again, what do I know :willy:

Too bad we cannot see if the trim tag was on there 4 years ago...that is how long the current owner has had the car .

I think in this case I think I will in fact go for the inspection and see if I burned 375 dollars for nothing :woohoo:

It's the small things that need to be checked and really determine just what a car is.
For instance the engine has an aluminum intake manifold (LT-! ?) on it, that raises the carb and air cleaner enough so the 69 sb hood won't fit. Is that why the bb hood is there.
This may be just fine with some buyers, but should be understood while the cash is still in the buyer's pocket.

Unlike Alaska, a whole bunch of people live in Florida. :D Maybe their cars are being put on the market because the worldwide economy is improving? Not everybody is desperate to sell their stuff these days. My house is waiting for the market to recover. Some day my car may follow suit.

If the paint is ok, no rusted birdage, Vacuum and all things work I would make an offer around 19k and invest the money for an inspection. Tell them what to look for as they are usual not Corvette Specialists. But they make a lot of detailed pics showing all areas.

that is exactly what I was going to do, and that is the exact figure I was going to offer. Everything works except, if I remember correctly, the wiper doors. Wipers work hi and low.

Well the 36 k was what the previous owner had on his website, perhaps an appraisal value or so. As I mentioned, the current owner purchased the car 4 years ago, I dont think he would accept a 15k cut in price :crazy2:

Bought my 69 from FL and rust is absolutely minimal. Nothing at all like cars I have seen from say the houston area. I now live in Savannah, GA close to the coast and no problems with rusting here either.

Trim tags were attached after the body was out of the paint shop. They should show no evidence of body color. People sometimes remove them when repainting a car.

You should ask the seller why the tag was removed and - better still - where it is.

you find that it is a Texas-Car. I would assume best State for NO Rust (beside Las Vegas Area), but bad for paint , thats why he repaints it !

All depends on what the car has been exposed to or protected from over it's 44 years. Freezing temperatures, ice and snow, road salt, ocean air, direct sunlight. I don't think one can make a generalization about where the car has lived. Frame and birdcage rust is the worst thing you can run into...and a real deal-breaker.

PS - I really like '69 Daytona Yellow side exhaust coupes. :thumbs:

I'm not a collector and I don't buy a car to collect it. I buy it to drive it and take to shows for other people to be able to admire a piece of American history.

This car looks beautiful to me and I would be proud to have it. It doesn't mean a hill of beans to me if it is not, oooooue, TOTALLY CORRECT. Hell for 19,000 I might get it.

4 speed, pipes, clean engine, nice interior, good undercarriage. The average guy is gonna drool when he sees this. Now, the snooty collector, well, that's a different story.

You want a very nice Vette. This is a very nice Vette.

I wouldn't think twice if I were able to get it for 19k. However, we are still talking 21.5....:woohoo:

The additional $2500 in the price of admission will pale in comparison to what you will end up spending at the C3 concession stand. :D Just make sure you enjoy the movie.
