Crystal Red Tintcoat vs Crystal Red Metallic

In pictures they look the same. The C6 has the CR Metallic, but the C7 advertises CR Tintcoat.

Can someone tell me if there is any real difference?

same color

I ordered a Crystal Red Tintcoat and this is my first Corvette, so I don't have a history with the car. I have been referring to my external color as CRT but see most refer to it as CRM. I don't suppose that it makes much of a difference but I would, at least, like to refer to my C7 correctly. So what should Crystal Red Tintcoat be called? Thanks for making me feel welcome here and patiently answering my many naive questions. And yes, I have been practicing my wave while I wait on delivery of my new and first Corvette :).

^ word got out, that there was some strange guy driving all over Homestead, FL waving at people in other cars for no apparent reason. Offended victims say he was driving a redcoat crystal tinted metallic station wagon . . . . .

Damn, I was actually thinking about including a "be polite to the weird old guy driving a blue Mustang 5.0 waving like crazy at passing Corvettes". Thanks for adding it :woohoo:  etc.

The C6 advertises CRM, while the C7 advertises CRT.

They do look the same in pictures. What I really want to know is do they look EXACTLY the same, or similar in real life?

FYI: There are Metallic colors in the C7 series, but this CR is a "Tintcoat". Sounds like a change that I hope is not ominous.

Yup ... for the new C7, there is no 'Crystal Red Metallic' paint offered.

Only 'Crystal Red Tintcoat' at $995 extra.

ZL-1 07-09-2013 08:24 PM

On the C6 Crystal Red Metallic was extra cost because of its tint coat.

For the C7 they are emphasizing "tintcoat" in the color names so the extra cost colors are easily identified and justified.

Yep... same color.

I'd like to be sure it is the same color, but I'm wondering how sure you are?

My '10 ZR1 is Crystal Red Tintcoat.

Tally Ho 07-10-2013 07:36 AM

It's called CRT on the Camaro as well. :hide::D Same colour as CRM.

Reciprocal 07-10-2013 07:42 AM

I've heard that said but I think they are different.

CRABBYJ 07-10-2013 07:54 AM

The same GM paint code - WA505Q. See link below.:flag:

Edit: Although "not confirmed" in comments column.

I don't know enough about paint. What is a tintcoat vs metallic or regular paint?

Reciprocal 07-11-2013 12:52 AM

Chiefly, the pigments that are added to the resins that give it the color.

Actually, the top clear coat is not clear but color "tinted" for depth/effect. Hence the extra cost...

:iagree:

The clear coat contains 10% of the body color.

Dracla 07-11-2013 03:50 PM

So what I hear all of you saying is that the Tintcoat is not exactly the same as Metallic. But they are similar.

Will the average person be able to tell the difference, and if they can, what is the difference they will see?
