what does the borla x pipe do sound wise to the straight pipes?

Sounds nice. It has a deep tone for stock manifolds and cats. The customer loved them but they would not work with the LG setup.

i was told by my muffler guy that i couldn't pass inspection if i got straight pipes because the lack of mufflers, does the x pipe make it passible or would i still be out of luck?

This goes behind your cats so it will pass inspection. The muffler is built in the x pipe.
