How do I get the wife to drive our Vette

Wife LOVES our 08 C6 and anytime we go riding or we are around the house doing nothing she wants to go ride in the Vette

However she has a "fear" of driving it, she is worried something will happen and I tell her that if something happens it happens no need to worry about that, just be cautious

I tried yesterday to get her to at least get behind the wheel of it, I think honestly she is intimidated by the car and just very paranoid about driving it

Any ideas or will she eventually get comfortable, thinking if I can just take her some where there is not a lot of traffic and I guess MAKE HER DRIVE IT then she will get comfortable

People at Her office keep wanting her to drive it to work but she will not

My wife's 3rd drive in our 2012 GS Vette was taking 10 laps around Rockingham Raceway in N.C. Sorry to admit that she was faster in the turns. Our Vette Club is going for laps at Darlington next month.

Well you could always be devious and go somewhere then tell her you don't feel we'll and she needs to drive. Or just keep encouraging.

go out some back roads where there is no traffic, stoplights, merging traffic, ect.

I don't know... maybe stop referring to her as "the wife"? :hide:

Hmmmm....your wife doesn't want to drive your Corvette, and that's a problem???:confused2:

My wife is the same exact way, and that is fine with me. If she changes her mind and wants to drive it that will be fine also. I decided not to make a project out of it.

What club do you belong to? I would love to visit Darlington. It's less than two hours away.

The simplest method is to tell her that She Can Not drive your Vette! You forbid her to ever drive it! Usually, you will find your clothes on the front lawn in shreds, all the rubber off the back tires, and the locks changed on your house. However, I don't recommend this method as my wife of 45 years would consider having a very expensive fire which would include most of my prized items.

For us, a drive on Sunday with the top down and a picnic lunch is a prized highlight of the week.

WHY would you want her to drive it??? What's the problem?

Corvette's are not made to just turn left, try and find a road course that has track days, you will enjoy that a lot more. VIR comes to mind.

EXACTLY what NDMIKE said !

Tonylmiller 07-06-2013 09:42 AM

My wife doesn't like it, didn't want me to buy it, but she does drive it occasionally. But never by herself.

Rich Mickol 07-06-2013 09:48 AM

Why complain? I have to fight my wife to let me drive it. Watch what you wish for.

For the last 20 years we have owned Corvettes, and she has no desire to drive them.
When I had RX8 she took it out on the highway and loved driving the car, over 100 MPH saying why is everybody driving slow. The corvette, she doesn't want to drive. Lucky me.:D

JohnAE455 07-06-2013 10:02 AM

Like Tonylmiller said, my wife hates it, didn't want me to buy, thinks it's ugly and doesn't even like riding in it. Not a problem for me. If your wife doesn't feel comfortable about driving it I wouldn't push it. At least she likes the car!

FAUEE 07-06-2013 10:10 AM

My gf hasn't driven it yet. She claims she isn't "scared" of it, just is a little intimidated. I can understand that, it intimidated me when I bought it, it still intimidates me. The car out-accelerates the HUD.

She will eventually drive it, but she wants it to be a calm day where she doesn't have to worry about stuff. I doubt she'll give it 100% throttle either.

Truth be told, if you don't push the car, it's a very easy to drive car.

I also concur.........The second best part of my manual trans is the fact that the wife doesn't know how to drive it. She loves my car though and has a 50th vert of her own. Whenever she kinda suggests trying to drive mine, I just think to myself, yeah right......It would be Callaway VS. curb or tree. No thanks.

Don-Vette 07-06-2013 10:45 AM

Go take a long road trip. She will have to drive when you get too tired to.
