Whats next for the C6Z06 at the dragstrip? 10s stock, bolt on 9's,8's w/man trans,6's
I havent been through to much in this section lately. It seems a little lack luster lately. I'm curious with all the amazing accomplishments the C6Z06's have given us in the hands of the members of this site. What is next? What goals.... what achievements do people want to see? Whats left for the drag strip? Is there a goal to lofty? Not lofty enough.... is it C7 time?
Just to recap of what the C6Z06 has been pushed to accomplish thus far at the drag strip. 10.9's on stock run flats 10.7's stock on drag radials 9.9's with bolt ons 9.8's heads/cam on drag radials 6spd 8.8's heads/cam power adder 6spd 7's heads/cam/auto/power adder? Even 6's all out bad azz car achievements!!!! I havent heard much of the 60-130 achievements of the C6Z06's but that is getting pretty popular on many car sites. Some very impressive results and shows off a lot of the car... more than the driver sometimes. Theres half mile events and big gun 1 mile events. Just curious what is keeping everyone going and excited about their C6Z06s at the strips? I honestly feel the C6Z06 is an amazing performance car. I dont want everyone to lose their excitement and passion of the car as they fall to the way side so quickly then :( |
Bruce, the only thing going on in here is a bunch of guys bitching about valves. That's it.

Yeah the C6 forum is filled with a bunch of know it all flappers lol
|
soooooo....... lets getter back to the basics then.... Whats some goals in performance that people want to see the C6Z06 achieve???
OR.... is it over? Go buy a C7, GTR, Viper, Prius OR A GT500 OMFG! and move on? Is it that bad in here? No coming back? The C6Z06 has accomplished it all and nothing surprises us anymore? This topic has nothing to do with the Valve drop scare. Just want to see some people show their passion for the performance of one of the best performance cars made.... Or is it over? |
I wanna see car do some more work to the Z & go 8's (;
|
P.S. Sebasture is he out the pasture? I heard he's selling the C6Z06 and getting a C7 with the cream interior.

Hey Fartpipe. I bought the Machine Silver Z you sold this past winter. The car has ported heads,Torquer110,headers,CAI & made 550rwhp & 525rwtq at ECS. I recently bought a NW102 & am porting a FAST 102 that will go on soon. I am hunting for a lighter wheel combo with DR's for the drag strip because the Forged 360's on the car weigh a ton. I will be real happy with a mid 10 second pass in the 130's.
|
I think the H/C record has room to drop with an all out setup.
+1 on the Z06 being one of the greatest cars ever made. To have a drag racing resume like this and still be able to outperform alot supercars on a road course with just a tire swap???? Bruce.....are you talking yourself back into a Z? |
I want to see Gary add a cam and go for 9.5-6s cam only.
If I could find a used Vbox for a reasonable price I'd get one to time 60-130times, but that seems impossible |

I will be trying for 10s this season as my heads / cam setup is done. On street tires mind you.

For sure, my personal goal, stay the same. 9.7X cam only, stock untouched heads. Oh and the C7 are not availaible to canada before 2020. We are always later here .... :canadaflag: Seb :canadaflag: |

" We knew it would be fast. But now we know exactly how fast: the C7 does the zero to 60 mph dash in a mere 3.8 seconds. That puts it .4 seconds faster than the old Corvette and just .1 seconds slower than the outgoing Z06."

Thank you for this thread. I look forward to putting this whole issue in my rearview very soon along with all the drama associated with it. I assure you once I make my decision I won't become like some and continue to drive MY decision on others. I just want what's best for my car.
My future goals after mods are 9's!! I might take another crack at Rangers record though before I do the mods! |

C7. It's awful, ugly, cheap and plasticky. Flat fenders, narrow tires, same awful seat base cushion, terribly cheap interior materials and a general embarrassment to Chevrolet from the $0.30 airbag cover to the $4.00 wall of plastic on the back of the car. After owning a pair of C6 Z06's and a C6 ZR1, I can't believe how bad the C7 is. If you want to be completely horrified, sit in a C7 and then wander into a Volkswagen dealer and sit in a $34K Golf R...look at the seats, switch gear, controls, ergonomics, materials, door panels, gauges, lighting, steering wheel, etc. It is truly depressing....no other word for it. I've given the General a lot of my money over the years, but I draw the line at the C7. Every interior designer that works for GM should be forced to drive one of those for a week with the clear understanding that VW sells them quite profitably at $34K or less. GTR. Faster than it should be. No soul, sounds terrible, looks like a high top running shoe. Stupid fast, but expensive to mod. Cheap Nissan interior...don't understand why they couldn't have taken some parts from the Infinity line for the price they charge. 2013's will run high 10's showroom stock, but I just can't wrap my arms around the styling. AWD rules on the street and if you meet one, their consistent no brainer performance is probably going to leave you looking at tail lights. Viper. I had a Gen IV coupe and I really liked that car. Fast, hairy, unpredictable, rare, exotic looking and always a blast to drive. Great seats in a cheap, bargain basement interior with awful switches/controls/radio from an old Neon. Not a long distance touring car with the offset pedals, but hella fun for a fair weather toy. I would probably still own my Gen IV if big aftermarket support was available, but it's not. The Gen V looks to be bigger/better/faster/stronger in every respect and I really like the higher end/exotic feel that they've given the interior. Those Sabelt seats are no joke. The upcoming ACR will be stupid fast. GT500. There's no way to justify the price of the 2013/2014's, but I've been giving serious thought to a 2011/2012. The interior is passable, the Recaro's are amazing, great electronics if you like Sync and $15K in mods (blower swap, full exhaust, suspension, brakes, weight reduction) gets you a pretty nasty 4 passenger car. C6 Z06. Bang for the buck king the day it was introduced and it just keeps getting better. Light, fast, strong, the almighty LS7, big brakes, etc. Never ending choices of aftermarket heads, cams, intakes, exhausts, clutches, wheels/tires/brakes, suspension mods, interior upgrades, electronics, etc. Still as sexy (sexier?) as it was the day it was introduced. H/C/I C6 Z06 with long tubes, x-pipe and aftermarket exhaust is still one of the greatest cars on the street. That car will always have a rabid fan base and rightly so. Is the C6 Z06 still surprising? Well, not really....but that's because there is SO MUCH support for it that every part, every nut and every bolt can be personalized to the owner's taste and budget. I think we're now into diminishing returns in the evolution of C6 Z06 mods but goddamn it's a great car. Give up on the C6 Z06? Sounds great to me...I would LOVE to have the market flooded with cheap, used Z06's for me to choose from. As a matter of fact, all Z06 owners should immediately sell their cars for cheap before the bottom (or valves) fall out. |

i think the c6 z will have a similar cult following as the evo 8/9 community. drag racing records are always being broken for that car even when you cant think of what else can be done. Im surprised the corvette community (i see with american cars in general) isnt as big on lightening/stripping/gutting/chopping cars for racing purposes. loosing a few hundred pounds will for sure make more records happen

For me, "what's next at the dragstrip ?" will be an assualt on the bottom 10's using the Katech Torquer 110 cam :)
A recent outing to the track in Tucson was the first time I've run the car since the h/c/i/e install. Unfortunaetly, I was on street tires and road race configuration for a HPDE at Inde Motorsport the following morning, but it was still was an entertaining night trying to corral the car and get it down the track LOL. +7000 DA, 102 degrees, sub 29.00" baramoter, street tires, absolutely zero traction for the first 330', wasn't expecting much. launch at 1700 RPM and walk it out to 120+ feet, then WOT. Heavy wheel spin, wheel hop on the 1-2 shift, then the tires would catch up with the car and pull hard the rest of the way. Best of 1.94 60' , 7.6@102 at the 1/8th, 11.2@129 . I'm very exited to see what's going to happen in cool air, low DA,and in drag config with drag radials....if the track will let me run without a rollbar. |

I thought of adding meth solely for the IAT's in the summer time, but reality set in as I realistically only drag race during the cooler months at the drag strip. If I was more of a roll racer, I'd probably plumb her for meth for use during the summer time, as roll racing is a year round sport here  |

I think it has the power, and clutch, to go sub 10.50's at 135,
given that I ran a 10.84@129 with 1000 DA and only a CAI/DR ....stock tune, OEM clutch with 68K on it :D. Car made SAE 570/550 on the LPM Dynojet I always use. Here is my pal Rob with his torquer and stock clutch. He got some 1.5's out of it. |

Here is my pal Rob with his torquer and stock clutch. He got some 1.5's out of it. Rob Payton 2007 Z06 Katech Torquer Cam Only Palm Beach Raceway - YouTube I now have the Katech LS9X clutch installed, and it feels just like my stocker. I went from 483wrhp and 444tQ and last year to 501wrhp and 484tq this year. and lossing little over 100pounds with the drag pack.. So will see it's going to be easy.. And I was running out gear last year with the small tire I was running. :ack:

Did you have 4.10 gears on that awesome Z you have or am I thinking of someone else? Best of luck in reaching your goals which would be fantastic!

My goal will be 9.78 NA in that good old east coast air when all said and done:thumbs:. Hopefully it will be this fall but spring if thats how it goes. I have yet to turn a wrench on it yet but I should be starting soon. I have gathered almost all the parts except a few small items.
so far I have: RPM built trans A4 and all the accompanying parts(thanks Rodney) Yank converter on order(thanks Dave) Custom grind comp cam and 926 spring kit 1-7/8 LTs and x pipe Vararam stock diff I will port the TB I will attempt the 9.78 with stock intake possibly ported mill heads slightly and change ex valves. If I deem necessary I will home port heads while off there may be a few other items but this should cover the major parts of my build. |
Stanger..... Going consistant and easier auto should def help. Keep us posted with your progress. Sounds like a lot of blood sweat and money to come :-)

May be driving the Red C6 again. The owner wants more power and Matt from Tune Time will give it to him. (I believe the owner is saving up for the transformation.) :D

Bruce, the only thing going on in here is a bunch of guys bitching about valves. That's it.
I was highly considering a C6 Z06 until the CF forum highlighted the valve problem. Since I could never afford a new Corvette, my financial ability to buy a used C6 Z06 would have put mileage at about 40k and that's the mileage range where the valve failures seem to be most prominent. So....there's no Z06 in my future Vette plans, not with a $12K engine repair looming heavily on the horizon for the buyer. |

Sorry, as stated, it's just a C6. Figured I would add something that you might find a better reponse to what people were going to do. (I know that this is a C6Z thread in the C6Z section, so don't go there.) As for the color red, I have no personal experience if it makes you go faster. I know that the red H/C C6 runs very well. I recall this car, but not sure how well it ran.:leaving:

WOOWW.... I think Fartpipe got so discouraged by this thread that he is looking back into GTR's. Says those guys are trying harder these days, while the vette guys are too busy waxing their car and legs.

Its true.... those GTR guys are like I cant wait to stomp another C6Z06 cause their valves are gonna drop trying to catch me off the line and probably miss a gear!!! They are very cocky over there :canadaflag: Sure wish some vette guys would be excited to get out there and show them other wise? I heard they are gonna be going 7's soon with a all wheel drive street driven car :hide: |

Roll racing is fun, but its for people who can't drive well. Its purely a car race. The driver is out of the equation. Might as well put in a remote control system and sit on the sideline. Now in a measure of power, sure, the roll race and 60-130 is how you would judge that. When you win though get out and thank your car because you were just along for the ride. Set a new drag record or beat someone from a dig... thats all you. |
