Best color wheel for pewter?

Torn with wheel color/options,

Love the polished aluminum on my car right now (stock thin-spokes)

However, some color corvettes look great with black, some look great with chrome, some look awesome with a brushed finish or colored wheels or all of the above!

The best looking set up (IMHO) I've seen is chrome/polished or black with a chrome/polished lip on a pewter Vette. Somehow though, imagining anything different than that seems to just clash with the color. I am saving for some forgestars (not set in stone thought) next year and just want to know if I am missing any combinations that look good with this color. What do you guys like on pewter?

Would love to see pics of pewter Vettes with aftermarket wheels!!!!

JaxEagle 06-17-2013 10:38 AM

Pewter with Chrome really pulls the pop out of the pewter.

In my opinion both chrome and polished aluminum look great on a Pewter.
Black doesn't show the classy color of pewter well.
Here are 2 samples of chrome and polished.
Mr.Bill

C6 5 spoke chrome.

FIKSE FM10 3 piece forged.

STALION 06-17-2013 11:02 AM

Chrome, brushed, or light gun metal, but I wouldn't go with black or any other dark colors IMO

Bobd207s 06-17-2013 11:11 AM

After owning a Pewter C5 for 6 years I would suggest a set of Polished / Chrome CCW's. I always wanted these for my car. I agree black wheels detract from the beauty of Pewter

I have Motorsport Z06 black face rims with machined lip with rivets. Check them out in at West Coast Corvette or Mid America Corvette

Have you not seen Toque's 2004 Z06? If you want to see the best looking wheels for that color just take a look here:

http://www.toquez06.com/

ChromeC5 06-17-2013 12:38 PM

Awesome! Thanks for the replies!!! Other wheels (in addition to the above) I would love to have would be the CCW T10 or SP500's but I don't quite have the funds for them... :(

Those Mosports do look good!!! Just not quite what I am looking for myself as I want something that looks a little more aftermarket in appearance, but still looks like it belongs...doesn't weigh much more than the thin-spokes, I can afford.... etc, etc. That's why I'm leaning towards the F14's....but still want to see what others have as I am still open to ideas and appreciate people's input!

Very classy looking Mr. Bill.

Yes, Toques Z....anyone that does not know his car has not been on here very long!

Yes, but they're close enough to use as a comparison. :yesnod:

ChromeC5 06-17-2013 02:03 PM

:iagree:, However, there just seems to be a tint to the pewter paint that doesn't make it as versatile as silver for wheel color options.

olbear1962 06-17-2013 05:59 PM

I agree with the other responses, polished aluminum or chrome looks best with Pewter, not a fan of black.
I love the look of the TSW Nurburgring's with the polished spoke faces......

Vetteman Jack 06-17-2013 06:02 PM

I had a pewter C5 for seven and a half years and always found the chrome/high polished wheels gave it the best look. That's what I would suggest.

MSG C5 06-17-2013 06:06 PM

I always felt Pewter and MSG need wheel bling because the colors don't pop like red or yellow and have a more subdued elogence. I hear the word "classy" alot at shows.

A black wheel IMO would not add to the color, but detract from it. I would suggest polished some type of brushed hypersilver.

Below are pics of my CCW polished wheels and my previous set of Ace Slick Hyperblack wheels. I received compliments on both sets, however from certain angles, the Hyerblack seemed too dark at times.

:iagree: Nah, that was at Costco. They have concrete blocks for your wheels, then asphalt, then a flat spot for the sidewalk in front. So I wasn't even close. But I do have those Granatelli bumper saver/roller wheels installed in front to prevent the nose from getting scraped.

when i bought my pewter coupe it had the magnesium wheels on it, looked pretty good, but later changed to polished thin spoke with grey lug nut covers. i would not trade my thin spokes for any other wheel, just my two cents............

The TSW Nurburgring's look great! They need the big brake kit to go along with them. I'd put these on my '99 Hardtop.

I agree, the big brakes sure fill out the wheel, and they work awesome.

IMO, polished aluminum, at least on the rim lip, maybe do the center spoke area in a gunmetal metallic finish if you don't want the whole wheel polished.

Thinking about doing the centers a satin black, keeping the polished lip, chrome rivets & going with chrome lug nuts and center cap. Found a company at Bloomington Gold called Alloy Wheel Repair Specialists that will come take the wheels off and take them back to their shop do the work and return them with a 2 week turn around. Can never go wrong with Chrome or polished aluminum.

Black only works with black (and in certain conditions, yellow chrome)and it needs some kind of offset like chrome accents or color matching).
