Considering a Wheel Change - What Do You Think Of These?

I'm considering some new wheels for my Vette.
Which do you like best?
.
Current Wheels - OEM Polished Gumby's
.

.
The Wheels I'm Considering - Replica Centennial Cup Wheels - Machined Face over Black (gun metal shown)
.

IMO the wheels you have look better.

Mach2 05-24-2013 03:07 PM

New wheels look more bronze than gun metal. I like the new wheels.  :flag:

JJPonzini 05-24-2013 03:11 PM

New wheels...and I'm usually a chrome guy.

Vetteman Jack 05-24-2013 03:13 PM

I'd go with the Centennial wheels - they do look good.

Al Gumby 05-24-2013 03:15 PM

:toetap: A down grade, IMO.

boraxman 05-24-2013 03:15 PM

Keep the Gumbys/:thumbs:

HarleyB 05-24-2013 03:17 PM

Both look good to me. I do like the OEM's better though.

Flh Den 05-24-2013 05:30 PM

Buy the replicas but don't sell your Gumby's, you never know..

MKenM 05-24-2013 05:35 PM

Although I'm partial to chrome I like the new wheels. Go for it. but keep the gumbys.:D

car2fast4you 05-24-2013 05:59 PM

Thanks for all the comments guys!

I actually like the Gumby's a lot. I'd just like to change it up a bit.

I'd consider spending up to $500 a wheel; but there just isn't very much out there within my price range. I haven't really seen anything that I like better than what I have. Since my tires are fairly new, I'd prefer to stay with stock sizes, which does limit the selection.

I've got comp gray cup wheels (replicas) on mine so I'm partial, but I vote for the cup wheels...

VET4LES 05-24-2013 06:32 PM

Gumby's.

ExRedRacer 05-24-2013 06:35 PM

OEM's....keep 'em and spend the $$ on performance mods.

If you are just looking for a new look ..... you could always have your gumbys powder coated.

I was not really a fan of gumbys or black wheels ..... until I saw this car:

Now after seeing that car ..... I really like gumbys in gloss black.

check out forgestar wheels. Around $1500 shipped. I have them on mine, they have several different styles in different finishes.

Some forum vendors sell them. I got a better deal elsewhere though.

I like the Gumby's.

Gumby all the way. Save your $$$.

42Chevy 05-25-2013 12:40 AM

I prefer the Gumbys.

msnbound 05-25-2013 05:30 AM

Neither . I would go 3 piece forged myself..... Wait...... I did .... Lol

JerriVette 05-25-2013 08:39 AM

I prefer the gumby s from a performance and appearance perspective. Your car looks hot.

To me...increasing unsprung weight is among the worst things you can do to a car.

I suggest waiting till your tires wear out and then go up to a more contemporary 1 9/20 light weight setup. A little heavier than stock 18/19 setup but the larger diameter when the time comes will better meet your appearance expectations.

I'm not a fan of the Gumby's and if you want a change I do like the Centennial rims. But they are an after market rim at mid range price. Quality may or may not be present throughout the four rims.

I actually like the black Gumby's though, this way you get a change and keep the quality.

Maybe try Plasticdip first and see how you like the black. I'd prefer a matte over the gloss anyway.

Airwolf 05-25-2013 09:23 AM

Anything BUT the gumby's.

I never liked how those looked. How about this, get the new style 5 spoke star mags and have them powder coated in black. That way the car keeps OEM wheels (if that is important to you) as well as still being forged (again if that is important to you) and has an updated look. Seems like a triple win!

Like these without the red stripe. Maybe an Atomic stripe!
