What did I do??
 

I was cleaning my car today and used a plastic polish spray for the speedometer but some kind of spots suddenly showed up and I can't get them off. I tried glass cleaner after that and they got worse. What the hell :(

Any suggestions????

Try 50:50 vinegar water on a towel and see if that gets it off.

Just did and no luck, its driving me crazy. I really don't wanna replace the plastic

I think you're going to have to.

I would be quite shocked if a plastic cleaner permanently stained the plastic that quickly.

As a last resort, you could always try a bug/tar cleaner or even a very light rubbing compound. I wouldn't do that until it's sink-or-swim though, as i'm not completely sure what it would do in terms of crystal clarity.

I've always been a little paranoid around the display glass, and until now, thought it was in my head. You may have proven me right. Hope that's not the case though bud.

This is BS!!! How can they sell a "plastic cleaner" that does this kind of damage. How come armor all doesn't have a class action lawsuit against them by now??

Man I just bought the car this week. This is what I get for staying in saturday to detail my car instead of chasing tail lol. Anyways anybody know what a plastic cover would cost?

Have you tried a plastic polish? Meguire's Mirror Glaze Clear Plastic Cleaner followed by their polish should do the trick. There's several other brands of similar material that should work just as well. You could try the polish first and if that doesn't work go to the cleaner followed by the polish.

My guess is that what you used interacted with residue of what the previous owner used. I doubt that the Armour All is at fault. Another thought is that what you used only highlighted spots that were already there but not visible. (Hmmm, if they weren't visible, were they there?!?)

Armor all is to blame, google "armor all speedometer" and you will see many results from people on different forums that had the same problem due to armor all.

Anyways thank God for Meguiar's ultimate compound. Thank you Thank you Thank you :).
Went to Walmart to get some of Meguiar's plastx but they didn't have it. After reading a previous post about trying a rubbing compound I picked up the ultimate compound and did a quick google search to see if its safe on plastic. It was and it did work very well, it did need about 10 applications but it sure took it all off. Here is a pic

Glad to hear you were able to get it cleaned off. I figured that it couldn't be too deep of a stain if it happened so quickly with overspray.

Rubbing compound has always done absolute wonders for me, but it has always been on painted surfaces. As long as it came out clear without any swirl marks, that's awesome to hear.

Yes it worked great and I'm thinking about applying the compound on my car tomorrow to get some of the swirl marks out.

I like to use Eagle One Wipe & Shine Quick Detailing Spray
for my clear plastics.

I got Armorall on the plastic of my instruments on a car I had years ago. It did exactly what you show and I could NEVER get the spots off.

Glad you got it back to normal. In the future if you want to use a good product for wiping, try Plexus. It's sold at motorcycle / aviation shops for windshields. I have been using on my instrument covers for years with great success. Also works excellent on headlight plastic on the C6!

Why use anything other then water and a very soft towel on plastic?. Same with the dash. You don't have to "feed" plastic and stuff other the water can make the dash shine, leading to glare. Glad you got it back to clear because it would have been a pain to replace.

I am glad you got it cleared up. I thought for sure it was going to need to be replaced. I use invisaglass on my clear plastic and window tint and have never had an issue. I also use it on my chrome wheels. I have a much harsher glass cleaner for the exterior glass.
