SAE testing done...AutoLine After Hours

Thanks to JerriVette for letting us know this version of AutoLine After Hours is on right now and features the Jordan Lee, Chief Engineer of Small Block Engines talking about the LT1.
Lots of interesting news/views of the LT1, etc.

"A measurable amount"

Yeah, had to laugh at that one. They really need to quit screwing around and get this out there soon. He certainly sounds and seems extremely confident about the LT1.

Well that at least eliminates all of the "its only going to make 450hp" naysayers.

Yep... And also the stupid a$$ conspiracy theorists (you know who you are) who think GM hasn't released the HP ratings so they can sell cars now before people become "dissapointed" with the actual HP or what ever their conspiracy theory is.

SAE testing was "just completed last week."

Thanks BlueOx for posting the link! Is it me or does that guy seem like he's smoked a bit too much whacky tobacco?

Would that be because of hardware, software or both?

Too much effort to make it happen at this time and given how little availability of E85 there is.

If you know, would the current LT1 hardware configuration make it possible?

RC000E 05-16-2013 09:28 PM

Well, the motor is certainly capable...it just comes down to the supportive hardware to manage it being absent.

They'll save that for mid gen update hp boost.

E85 usage not high, cost to develop too large, fuel economy is worse. Actually that part starts at 47:39 with a phone call...

I take that as a no to your question, RC.

"A measurable amount" can mean as much as 475+hp or as little as only 458hp...hoping for the best.

Change oil every 7500 miles...in his opinion. Recommends going by Oil Life.

BlueOx 05-16-2013 09:44 PM

Compression ignition not likely...but being researched.

Turbo or no? No clear answer.

SBC sticking around a LONG time!

As it should. It's still the best engine on the market.

There's DEFINITELY something afoot here with this LT1 redline...

I've heard multiple conflicting statements from various internal engineers to GM. Something is up here...

Powertrain guys told me at the bash... 6600, this video says... 6600
Definitely talked to two test engineers that said they were at 7000rpm, and multiple instances were stated about 7100.

Interesting...

HOW bad ass would it be if you could gain 500rpm rev limit in track/race mode!

And/OR Z51 enables 500rpm higher limit in track/race mode due to additional dry sump and cooling system

You heard it from me first!!!!

I mentioned a week or so ago that in the Bash video, Kirk Bennion was talking about driving for a camera crew in 4th @ 7000 rpm @ 140 mph. Yet I keep hearing 6600. Either they are driving it well over red line or something IS afoot!
