Let me postulate that if you have to ask this question then you are likely not familiar enough with this engine design to do it yourself. If you were talking about a C2 or C3 then I would say go for it but not an LS1.

:iagree: Words of wisdom.

LS motors are super easy to work on. Way easier then SBC and BBC motors.

I have the machine shop do the machine work and install the rotating assembly.

I then do the rest of the assembly myself.

btw that's how I do SBC and BBC motors too.

I just started the LS7 in my 69 Camaro for the 1st time

Hooker ProComp Headers.

LS7 Converted to Wet Sump .005 over 431 CI. LS7 Heads with a little work. Diamond Forged Pistons. TSP LS7S Camshaft 242/250 .650"/.650" 114+3

update: Finally tore into the motor enough to find the problem. Busted lifter, pulled the cam and one lob is very much toast. Hopefully get the motor to the shop in the next month or 2 and get it in line for the rebuild. I plan on a bigger cam this time, as it will no longer be my daily driver

Finally got the motor to the shop, but they are closed for maintenance until Jan 1 , also ordered the Whiplash II cam. I may put it back together myself but I may just let englandgreen do it , not sure yet. New clutch will be installed also.

I dont see an intrest but will update anyway,:
Picked the car up from Englandgreen yesterday, have to baby it for break in but its running great and sounds great. I hope to get the break in miles this week and dyno it next, though England is slammed at the moment! Nice to have it back, its been down for about 10 months! :D:D

I don't think you can get a crate LS1 or LS6 anymore from GM.

:iagree: More power, no guessing, long life.

I stuck in a crate ZZ3 into my 68, many years ago. It felt like I strapped on a supercharger. This was after two rebuilds that were never quite right.

mojo1 03-05-2014 07:50 AM

The rebuild and englandgreen work is Very Right, just need to break it in! I am :D :D :D
The guy used for machine work on my motor was recomended to me by Mr.England and also another guy who has a restore shop so I know it was in great hands!

Mitch.Shea 03-05-2014 10:16 AM

My motor through a rod bearing, I rebuilt it in my friends shop since he had some of the tools I needed and it runs like a champ. just make sure you tighten and file things to spec. Its not that hard just takes patience.

Update.

I want to thank englandgreen again, guys there do some great work.
After trying to work through some drive line shake issues car was dyno-ed yesterday. It made 445 RWHp, I forgot the Torque (edit 375 ) The injectors maxed out so I might see about going bigger there but I am happy with the rebuild and the Whiplash II. It was sure fun to use some of the power. :D:D
Need to figure out the shake, thinking its the back wheel and or tires. Its not bad until some high MPH but it bothers me.

madmatt9471 03-11-2014 06:58 AM

Congrats!

Numbers sound real good! :D

More than likely you Torque Tube bushing's are shot!

How many miles on them?

MN6 or A4? MN6 takes a lot more abuse on the TQ Tube Bushing's than a A4

Thanks,Matt

England mentioned the the bushings, the car has 103K MN6 . Motor feels good and strong!

It made 445rwhp and 375rwtq. The vibration was something fierce above 100mph - dyno run was to 145mph :willy:

Mojo was out of injector above 6000rpm, as can be seen on the dyno graph.

mojo1 03-12-2014 09:01 AM

England!
Your tuning is amazing, there is absolutly no issues at all in how this big fat cam runs, I freaking LOVE IT!
