Vararam guarantees 2 to 3 tenths faster ETs in the quarter mile. If it doesn't do that, return it and they will refund your $$ and they pay shipping. I verified the ET improvement on my C5 with before and after results and it did, in fact, improve my ETs. I have a Vararam on my C6 but didn't do a before and after on it, but I can tell you it's an improvement you can feel. If you could poll the Forum, I would venture to say Vararam is the most popular CAI for Corvettes.

For a halltech killer bee CAI ($500) over a vararam vr-sc1 ($265)????

on my 05 coupe I had a few bolts on mods Vararam, headers fast intake and gears. Car ran great but the Vararam fit and finish was pretty poor, Not worth the money in my opinion..

On my 11 Vert I'm sticking with the stock intake.. Unless you are a hard core drag racer where tenths of a second are important I'd save my money

I think i'm leaning towards that way because I definitely don't race/track. Why mess with something when it's not important.... That's why I love this forum, we help each other make more educated decisions!!!

I'll put that $300 towards the corsa I'm saving for!!!

Save your money for when you get the DSV interior bug, sooner or later you will. BTW, what part of Jersey. I'm from a little town called Califon. Just outside of Flemington.

The Vararam is a dirt sucking piece of garbage that will turn your oil black in 2500 miles. On the other hand, I went with an Airaid for $220 and got 90% of the gains of the Halltech.

I'm on the east side, Matawan. My mother in law actually works for Ditschman ford by you in Flemington....

Maybe I'm wrong, but after reading a lot about after market air intakes I've sort of concluded that it is more about getting cool (or otherwise cooler) air to the maf than it is about trying to get more air or "ramming" air into it. That's what I'll be looking for if I ever decide to do this mod.

Apsis is close! $352 for a front set of splash guards for the GS shipped:ack:

Might as well throw in my two cents..

I've struggled with the CAI decision as well. I agree that the stock air intake boxes are good enough even the one for the LS2 which is what I have. However, I did change mine out and went with the honker intake. The downside is the work because you have to cut the shroud but I have no regrets and I bought it used from a forum member. When I installed it I upgraded the exhaust and got a tune. Really woke it up..

The Vararam I saw on some vettes and IMO it left something to be desired, I really didn't like the fit and finish as others have mentioned.

Just enjoy your car, don't get hung up on the small stuff. Sometimes trying to decide how to spend some money distracts us from enjoying the car altogether...at least it does me sometimes.

I vote leaving it stock and getting a tune with the money orsaving for the exhaust.

my 07 Z came with a k&N with a good filter, i figure later down the road when it came to head and cam package it'll stay on.

90% of 0 is still 0.:D

wow! that was good!

Short answer: no. Our factory intakes are just fine for 500rwhp or so. It's not the type of mod you'll notice on a dyno, but will pick up a 1/10 or two and a few MPH in the 1/4 mile. Honestly the only reason I'd upgrade is if you're heavily modded and want to pick up a few more loose ponies under acceleration, or to clean up the engine bay a bit.

Now, a ram air front bumper (GS, Z06, ZR1 style) coupled with a blackwing style CAI may have some merit.

:iagree: not to mention to install the vararam you have to cut a giant hole in your car. it looks like shiz when installed and it blocks 1/2 the airflow to the radiator. and they claim ram air in order to see a positive pressure (ram air) in the intake you have to be going over 150 mph. and the halltech uses a filter that is at least twice the size as the vararam.

the airaid is ok, i removed mine to install the halltech and picked up 6 rwhp over the airaid. not sure what the airaid gained alone as i made several other changes at same time. i have never seen a vararam gain more than 2 or 3 hp on dyno

look at what intake the fastest bolt-on z06 uses and major shops like katech and pfadt use. Halltech, must be a reason

Silly post you have there..... GM engineers designed it to do the job, no more no less. The open air element CAI's show much better flow and will make much more power when tuned. Dont post this nonsense when people are looking for honest answers.

Vararam makes a cover that goes over the stock CAI . I have it on mine and everything is hidden nicely. As for the temps. I've never seen an issue and mines cammed.

oh i forgot about the giant aluminum heat sink they use to house the maf on the LS3 units. still dont understand why that isnt plastic as it wouldnt retain as much heat. yes aluminum disapates heat pretty fast, but their is a reason gm no longer make intake manifolds out of aluminum but yet instead makes them from plastic.
