What is a base Corvette?

What is a base Corvette? It is a Corvette without options, in my book, regardless of model.

You can have a base coupe, a base convertible, a base Z06, etc. I don't think a coupe with Z51 is a base Corvette. Nor is a coupe with the 3LT package a base coupe. A base car would be 1LT.

Do most people see all coupes as a base Corvette, regardless of options? Maybe I'm looking at it wrongly.

In other words, it is just coupe or GS coupe. Not base coupe and GS coupe.

I agree with you on the vette. If it's a 1LT then it's a base car for that model, whether it's a coupe, GS, Z06, or ZR1. That is pretty consistent along the Chevrolet lineup: an Impala 1LT is not as equipped as an LTZ.

Personally I think the 3LT package is about perfect for the money and options given. That's what I got for my CRM GS vert.

When I use the term I mean a base 1LT narrow-body, like mine. It has the QX3 chrome wheel option, but to me it's still a base car.

When I say a base model I mean non GS, non Z06, non ZR1

No one I've ever talked to in the general public knows what a Corvette Coupe is. When I say "base corvette" they immediately know what I'm talking about.

EVRose 05-09-2013 09:11 AM

Any non Z06/ZR1/GS regardless of option pack is a base. My 05 has all options including Z51 and is still a base.

BWF07 05-09-2013 09:17 AM

I have always considered a base Corvette to be the standard body Corvette coupe with no options. However in reality I guess each model would have a base car, be it the coupe, Grand Sport, Z06 or even the ZR1. Seeing that even teh Z06 and the ZR1 bace was pretty loaded, there was still the 3LZ and the 3ZR that could be added to those models.

billyboy47 05-09-2013 09:33 AM

a base coupe is any vette not a gs, z06 or zr1. whether 1lt up to 3lt it's still the base model. thats the way i see it on chevy web site.:topicclosed:

:lurk: This should get good

mowe 05-09-2013 09:55 AM

I spent 50k on a Corvette...It should never be called "BASE" anything....I like Chevys new marketing strategy in calling the "base" corvette a Stingray....

It should just be a Corvette...and then there is the Gs, Z, ZR1.....

Oh well....What do I know

:iagree: "Base" Corvette does not appear on any GM literature anywhere that I've ever seen. It's just a term created and used by many Corvette folks, including the ones on the forum.

Same way a Z51 Corvette is used as an easy way to mean a Corvette with the Z51 option package. GM doesn't know what a Z51 Corvette is.

:iagree: I don't like the term base for a $60,000 high optioned car.GM doesn't use the term, dealers don't use the term.

I have a C6, not a C6 GS, not a C6 Z06 or a C6 427 Convert. It's not a basic car, there are lots of high dollar options. If I had a C6 1LT with no options I would consider calling it a base C6 but my C6 Z51 3LT isn't a base car by any definition.

I agree with both statements except, most of the people I've run into can't tell a base from a Z06. Often I get... "Nice vette. Is it a Z06?" When I say no it's a base model they always "Oh" with a tone in their voice that indicates that have pity for me that I don't own a "fast" car.

Now that I think about it. With the Z51 becoming a model I could start using that. Maybe I can score some Stingray emblems?

staw512 05-09-2013 10:15 AM

There are four types of current Corvettes. Base, Grand Sport, Z06, ZR1. The options a car has has no relevance to the category.

Rich Mickol 05-09-2013 10:17 AM

IMHO. If it!s not a Z06, ZR1 or a Grand Sport it!s a base regardless of options. I use it to describe the body type.

Sneed 05-09-2013 10:17 AM

It's a Corvette (nuff said).

Someone should create stylized "BASE" badges.

I was going to write the same thing. I've never heard anyone outside of C6 owners on here, and some Corvette persons in sales refer to any C6 model as a "base model." Matter of fact, at any Corvette gathering that I've been at, has anyone ever said the word "base."

So were would the 427 vert fall into this?
