I feel like I'm working in a car wash...

This is nuts. I watched the weather closely today...morning showers and clearing in the afternoon. Perfect situation for detailing the car in the garage (2 hours worth) in the morning, then taking it out for a drive later. After busting my ass on the paint, wheels, interior, windows I go back in the house to check the weather again. Satellite shows all the big rain clouds have passed over SE Michigan. Cool, I head out to Autozone in bright sun and a few calm clouds. I'm 10 miles from home on a 2 lane twisty. While I am in Autozone a bigass rain cloud hits...WTF! I head home very carefully keeping my distance from cars ahead, picking the spots in the lane where the pavement is free of puddles....but car ends up splashed by oncoming cars and the rear end gets dirty as hell again. WTF. So, here I am re-detailing the car ...give me a break. I was singing Rose Royce's "working in the car wash" the whole time. End of rant...these cars can drive you nuts at times....

It could have been worse.....You could have walked into Autozone with the top dropped and came out to the interior soaking wet. (That happened to me with my Porsche. The good news is, Porsche don't skimp on the leather interior. Not one drop soaked into the seats.)

Next time, take some photos before you pull out and then, check the weather channel a third time. : )

Same thing seems to happen here quite often - get the car clean, no clouds, go for a drive then bam - rain. Oh well, just part of the endless cycle of keeping the cars looking sharp.

Just think how you'd feel if yours was black, like mine!! I don't even need anything more than a breeze on a dry day to have to start all over again!!

I also have a black car. Never again.

Backing out of the driveway get the back of mine dirty. It's a giant dust magnet.

I only ever had ONE black car!

As for the car-wash syndrome.........I haven't been caught in the rain yet, but even without it I seem to spend a large portion of my life cleaning, scrubbing, brushing, washing, waxing and polishing, etc.

I think I clean the windshield 3 times a week. The nose needs cleaning twice a week, and I wash and wax the whole car pretty much every week, and it's mandatory to remove the wheels to make sure even parts you can't see are gleaming and clean. And this is on a week I drive the 'Vette maybe 40 miles!

I've been on the road for 4600 miles with 2000 more to go. Rain in Florida. Buried in tree pollin in Virginia. In SW Michigan now with snow and rain the last 2 days. I just gave up. Lots of work to do when I get home. :smash:

Washing and detailing is just part of the fun. Caressing a Corvette makes any day better. The only thing better is banging a few gears. The same thing, rain, has happened to me many times.

My dad once told me being a weather must be the best job ever. You can be right or wrong and still get paid.

I know just what you're talking about. Mine is my DD and I hate having it dirty but with the weather we have n Wichita I sometimes just have to grin and bear it. It seems we get rain or snow every three days of late. Ah but when she shines she really shines!

To make things worse, I can't get that catchy song out of my head for the life of me....:ack: Does this ever happen to you guys?

Lyrics to Car Wash

Ooh, ooh, you might not ever get rich
But let me tell ya, it's better than diggin' a ditch
There ain't no tellin' who you might meet
A movie star or maybe even a Indian Chief

(Workin')
At the car wash
Workin' at the car wash, girl
Come on and sing it with me
(Car wash)
Sing it with the feelin' ya'll
(Car wash, girl)

Some of the work gets kinda hard
This ain't no place to be, if you planned on bein' a star
Let me tell you it's always cool
And the boss don't mind sometimes, if ya act the fool

At the car wash
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
Talkin' about the car wash, girl
Come on ya'll and sing it for me
(Car wash)
Ooh, ooh, ooh
(Car wash, girl)

(Work and work)
Well, those cars never seem to stop coming
(Work and work)
Keep those rags and machines humming

(Work and work)
My fingers to the bone
(Work)
Can't wait till it's time to go home

(Hey, get your car washed today)
Fill up and you don't have to pay
Come on and give us a play
(Do the wash, right away)

(Car wash)
Talkin' 'bout the car wash
Car wash, girl
Come on ya'll, let's sing it with me
(Car wash)
Sing it with feelin', ya'll
(Car wash, girl)

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
(Car wash)
Never seem to stop comin'
What'd I say?
Keep those rags and machines hummin'
