Too good to be true? A 1999 Corvette Convertible - $17800
http://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/cto/3758925511.html
I've been looking at C4s in that price range so this sounds too good to be true. |
That's actually quite high, IMHO
|
Doesn't sound too good to be true to me. not a bad deal, and If it's as well kept as he says, I'd consider it. I'm sure he's basing his price mostly because of miles, but that doesn't matter if its in great condition.
|
There are few c4s worth that dough, so not sure what you're seeing...but that seems a fair price..if not a bit high. Do your homework.
|
Sounds about right to me. Of course you will get plenty of people on here saying it's way overpriced, it should list for $15,000 blah, blah. If it's in great condition and what you want, buy it! Nice C5's are getting harder to find.
|
I sold a '99 Nassau blue convertible with 50K miles for about the same price last August. Price is probably in the ball park, especially as we get closer to summer. Offer him a couple of K less and then negotiate as necessary, if you like and want the car.
|
Deals are out there
I just purchased a 2000 triple black vert with a little less mileage for $15,500. I waited and looked and had to travel to get it but have seen very good deals available if your patient.
|
I don't know why anyone would want a torch red convertible.

Price is excellent for a well kept C5..... opinions vary very much.
Mileage means very little to a well maintained C5. |
That might be a fair price in your area. Car looks decent enough in the pics. If you are interested in it, offer less and go from there.
|
I'd say that's a good price to start negotiations....
I've seen cheaper though, with those miles and year. |
Lol.. Thats way overpriced. Where are you guys getting your prices from?
|
Paid $18,600 for my 00 FRC 7 years ago, with 55,500 miles. This is just for a point of reference only. Being a convertible adds value. Seems like the upper range of the fair price bracket. It is a nice looking ride from what I acan see.:thumbs::cheers:
|
^ I agree...
Paid 17,500 for my 2002 Z06 with 51k on it in early 2011...lol...car was mint... |

Some people prefer to take the top off or down. That's the only way to drive a vette. I think yours was way overpriced.

At the end of the day, He owns the top of the line most valuable C5 and a vert is still a base model corvette.

Go find me that deal now...2 yrs later... There wasn't a z06 under 20k for the following year on here. I think the only way to drive a vette is on a track, not with the old gray hairs detaching from the scalp in the wind... And there's a lot more to a Z06 than 55hp bud...you can add 55hp and a Z06 will still spank your ass... |

that's under MMR for his purchase year and probably still is today how could you consider a buy under dealer auction overpriced? |
17,800 sound like a fair price. If this is the car you want, with the right color and options, go for it, as you might not find anything better, and will always think about "the one that got away". I paid 14,700 for a 99 coupe with 62k miles last year, and despite of some folks here thinking everything is overpriced, except their car, I think I got a good deal, as it was the exact car I was looking for.

I think its probably right in the ballpark, not great, but certainly a fair asking price for whats out there.

Everyone seems to qoute the sold price, or what they paid for their car which is almost certainly going to be lower than the asking price. What I would like to see is what the asking price was on the car you purchased and then what you actually paid for it. The price the OP is showing is obviuosly the asking price which I would say is in the ballpark if not a little high but depending on how much the seller is willing to negotiate the buyer could possibly get it for 1-2 thousand less in which case would be a great buy and a good sale for the owner. For a C5 condition is everything and that's usually not something you can determine just by looking at pictures on the internet. Some of the purchase prices quoted in this thread are amazingly good deals. For those that purchased a year or 2 ago, you got the car at the right time based on how the economy was in the toilet and most owners were letting their cars go for absurdly low prices. Prices currently seem to be holding steady if not increasing a little bit for the last couple years. Location and time of year will also affect sale prices. Right now prices will be a tad higher and a little less negotiable compared to December, January for those of us that live in the colder climates.

that's under MMR for his purchase year and probably still is today how could you consider a buy under dealer auction overpriced? In some regards, he's correct. The car is worth what someone will pay for it. You can price your vehicle at book value or less but if no one is interested, it could sit there for a long time. It just varies based on demand. The z06's though generally are in fairly good demand. |

No need for hostility. Stock vs stock the Z06 is quicker, don't know about the spanking. If you run track as you say you must realize driver plays a very big role in spanking department. Once you throw in mods the fender badges don't mean squat. This is a corvette forum so show some respect.

What I am trying to say is what's "valuable" to some, means nothing to others. It doesn't take much to get 55 more h.p. out of my "base" model car, plus I can put the top down.
On the topic, that price looks average. I wouldnt say over priced if its what you want, but its by no stretch "too good to be true" |

Price is very subjective. I really like Fairway Green which is a '97 and '98 only color. If I found one in excellent shape I may well be willing to pay a premium (at least above average market value) for it. Some would likely say I got screwed for paying a premium for those years/color but, if it was worth it to me that would be all that matters. |
I prefer Z's

I think the price is fair. The car is highly optioned--sports seats, HUD, memory, 12-disc CD, 6-speed, dual-zone A/C. It has later polished wheels, too. If the condition is as good as it looks in the photos, and the tires are good, it's a good buy.
