As an owner of a corvette ...

Have you ever noticed at times that you never see a Vette on the road
Then at times their all over the place .....your thoughts

We call the first one winter and the second one summer. Here in Detroit there are Corvettes all over the place.

Dudeurgettnavette 04-23-2013 01:13 PM

I've noticed not to notice

Mr.Bill 04-23-2013 01:16 PM

I drive mine every day and some days I won't see one except mine in a reflection of a window and than other times I will see a few.

Evil-Twin 04-23-2013 01:17 PM

I've been a Corvette owner for 50 years. A pioneer of the " wave " so to speak. I always notice a Corvette. AS far as the frequency of seeing a Corvette, back in the late 50's an early 60's, it was rare to see a Corvette. But back them We had a Corvette Club, which was very rare as well.
The number of Corvette that are still on the road has increased over the years , naturally so the number of Corvettes makes seeing them more possible. On nice days, and on the weekends ( prime Corvette cruse times ) I see more Corvettes on the road... During a given week day, I could go two or three days without seeing one, and then on a nice day see 10 or 15..

I'm usually on a plane and on the road during the week- so the Vette sits covered in the garage . . .Saturday mornings seem to be the time when everyone brings their cars out into the sunshine . . .lots of waves regardless of generation . . .

:iagree:Beat me to that reply.

Chicago seasons; winter and construction.

Vetteman Jack 04-23-2013 01:52 PM

I saw two Corvettes on the road today, even though it is a rainy day. One was a silver C5 and the other was a TR C6 GS. Good to see some people drive them even when the sun is not shining. Most days I do not see them on the road unless it is a weekend and the weather is nice.

James2002z06 04-23-2013 02:02 PM

I also saw a C6 vert today going down the highway cruising on a rainy day it had dealer tags. I see them quite often when the weather is nice but hardly at all when its cold or rainy out.

No James, your post and thread topic was fine...
its just that some new members go out of their way to be an ass, and drag this forum down.

To put it bluntly, its people like this who bring down this forum. And its only been in recent years that this level of bottom feeder finds its way to this otherwise great forum.

I've only been a member for a few years , members like Bill ,Vetteman Jack and of course a few others have heled me along my journey what to say what not to say etc... I try to post decent things as I'm all of the country working .... I'm not an old school owner like most of you guys are ... Getting back on track....

Unfortunately I don't see very many, I can go weeks without seeing another; of course, I kinda live and work outside the closest metropolitan area (Raleigh).

Then again, I'll go some weeks and pass 2 or 3 - - luck of the draw I guess...

Because this is the corvette forum where we come to talk about corvettes. If you dont like this topic, move on to another thread.

Even in summer I rarely see any vettes, especially if im in mine. Strange

Maxx_Z06 04-23-2013 04:34 PM

Typically on Saturdays and Sundays if the weather is nice I see a good bunch. Most of them are C6's though its very seldom that i run into another C5 anymore around here.

racebum 04-23-2013 04:56 PM

depends on the weather. i will saying that having a z06 is pretty cool. i rarely see another one on the road. lot of coupes and verts though. in my area c5's are the most commonly seen on the road of all the generations...and they still aren't that common

James2002z06 04-23-2013 05:16 PM

JW Motorsports 04-23-2013 05:27 PM

I see 5-6 a day here except when it rains :hide:

R0NIN 04-23-2013 05:59 PM

This is an interesting question and one I think about all the time... I usually go about 3 days without seeing a Corvette.... then I go three days with seeing 1 corvette every day (C6 coupe, or c5coupe or Z)... then a few days without seeing a corvette...

Mr. Jean 04-23-2013 06:05 PM

There are 4-5 on my street, so I see them often enough.

chassed 04-23-2013 06:11 PM

I daily drive my car, and id say it's rare to see "NICE" modded C5's around my area.

Also, I don't really notice another C5 unless it's shiny/modded and catches my attention lol

Other than that, the ones I do see are bone stock and boring. Nothing really to appreciate IMO. I guess I'm just one of those new annoying members that's all for modding, instead of keeping it stock.

31coupe 04-23-2013 06:25 PM

Was out this weekend going up to Jackson Ca, saw a C5 there and one just coming out of Woodbridge, another convertible. Always look when I am out...I enjoy the tradition of the wave. When I was 16 my first car was an Austin Healey 100 in 1963. Very few sports cars on the road then and the wave was to any sports car...great tradition.

zagger 04-23-2013 07:13 PM

2 weeks ago I drove I-10 from Phoenix to Florida and only saw a few vettes over the 2000 miles. Then from Gainesville to Savannah I saw dozens.

I would say this new era has brought two forms of owners. Unfortunately the bad outnumber the good. With the price dropping on these cars, there are people who view this as an opportunity to push the envelope of these cars without subjecting themselves to a huge financial risk. The anti-waxer if you will. I can tell you from experience that the C5 is becoming more and more common on the race track amongst the younger crowd, myself included. As more people begin to track these cars the market for affordable track worthy parts increases causing the prices to drop. I think trying to keep a reasonable budget and yet still posting respectable times is a big part of the challenge/fun.

On the other side of the pond resides the other new breed of owner whose insecurities are often masked with a sense of arrogance, ignorance, and general poor taste. While this personality profile is not exclusive to those whose financial constraints have only until recently prevented them from Corvette ownership, it's safe to say that education and life experience will often provide the necessary perspective to avoid those pitfalls. It appears that education and life experience also often lead to a greater financial success which may explain why as the price drops we are suddenly finding individuals who lack these qualities.

On top of it all, regardless of age, gender, race, the culture of our society today has deteriorated to a point where very few are friendly, often out of suspicion of being taken advantage of or being viewed as weak.

Happy motoring

It's pretty much that way around here too James. More and more its C6 coupes I'm seeing.

I see on average 3-5 Corvettes during my commute. 9/10 they are bone stock. Hardly ever see a nicely modded one lowered on a nice set of wheels.

Can I tell you what I believe to be the truth an still be a friend? We shall see.

Yes you are being too sensitive. Evil you come off as hostile at times whether you are aware of it or not. You are a brilliant man as we can all tell by by reading with great enthusiasm everything you write. I have at times been disappointed in you as a mature and educated adult with your seemingly lack of patience with younger and less experienced people on the forum. You need to realize that your wisdom and experience is of great value to so many and yes, you could even be viewed as a leader to some on this forum. But using the term "Wanker" and "Douche Bag" in reference to anyone belittles you more than it does the recipient.

It may be how you feel about life and other people in general that causes you to view with a jaundice eye a question like "why should you care if you see one or not? My perception of that question is that the young man is saying he loves every moment in his Corvette and he doesn't need to see another Corvette to enjoy what he has. It's fun being unique. The o.p. asked for our thoughts so don't forget that.

This may be the end of the good old days in many ways but when it is time, I hope to bow out gracefully.

I respectfully and reverently suggest you give yourself a checkup from the neck up and make a few adjustments in how you view things. We need people like you whether you like us or not. It would be nice to be liked though.

Here in the Bay Area I see about 3-4 a day because of are weather. It is great most of the time. Now when I'm in my vette, being a new owner to the Corvette world. I was excited to be apart of the wave & I noticed not allot of people even know of the wave or if they do. They choose not to, Almost like a look then an up tight look back forward thing lmao.. Being a new guy on this forum, I stay positive & Only leave positive remarks. If I don't like a post, I just click out & Move onto the next.. I can say I do wish their was more unity among the corvette forum.. I've seen some things already that have me shaking my head on this forum.. But I'm here to stay & I hope to meet more great positive owners on this site... I'm a Car Show guy so I'm all about the Shows... A nice clean custom corvette is something to look at in my opinion..

I'm with ya.. SAVE the WAVE !!.... I always wave at all Generation of Vette's I meet on the road . On the freeway, i'll blink the fog lights at
passing Vettes.( hard to see a wave) Sadly, to many times, I don't get the favor paid back.

To many new , usally younger Vette owners are not aware of the tradition of throwing a WAVE at fellow Vettes... to bad

Let's change that , yes ... Nut'n like wraping your ass in fiberglass !

You know I might force myself to get past those ugly headlights for one of those 427 Verts. I kinda likem but I like my C5 and the money difference better. I know a guy with a ZL1, he loves it. He's been doing some autocross with it but is headed for the drag strip this coming weekend. When he told me he had been autocrossing, I told him I couldn't believe he hardly had it broke in good and was out running over cones with it. He laughed and said he tries to avoid those but has managed to run a few down.
