Vented Hood Purchase

I recently purchased a hood from a vendor (that I waited three weeks to get) and well let me just say that the hood I received was very interesting. Stand by for pictures and a follow up from their customer service. Id like to have input from the community.

With all due respect, IMO it would have been better to hold-off on the starting a new thread until you had all the information, photos, vendor communications, et cetera ready to post. :)

Pittcorvette 04-23-2013 12:35 PM

Wayno, I respect your opinion and thats probably how you would handle it. Now please respect how I am handeling my situation. I am using all my strength to not loose it. I have given information in regards to my current dilema. The reason I don't want to give all the information is because the vendor hasn't responded yet, and I want to give the vendor the benefit of the doubt. Pictures I have ready for posting. I have left two messages and sent two emails at this time. As soon as they responds I will post more information about my current situation.

Sorry & hope this works out for you.

AORoads 04-23-2013 03:32 PM

no ideas on solution. doesn't seem like you can "add" to where it's missing stuff.

who made it? who sold it to you? what do they say?

I do, however, recall writing post #4 when you asked about vented hoods.

That look's like a variation/knock off of the HiTech hood.

Great looking hood! I love the style. I am no body guy, but I see no way to make that hood fit your car.

Pittcorvette 04-23-2013 04:00 PM

Yeap, and I'm not being fully reimbursed. I had to take a loss on the shipping of the item back. I paid 721.00and the seller would only reimburse me 640.00 due to shipping charges, which I hope he keeps his word.

Thats BS. Why should you eat shipping on thier inferior product?

Yellow C-6 04-23-2013 04:23 PM

I have the same hood on my car I have had on there for 4 years, the fitment was pretty good overall. I remember at one time there was a bad batch of them, it may have been one of the left overs ones from that.

That's a bunch of crap.

I would've cancelled payment through your credit card and told him he wasn't getting anything. If he wants his hood he can pre-pay shipping freight.

There is NO WAY, I would eat a cent on that or ship him anything without being reimbursed first.

Who was this???

Pittcorvette 04-23-2013 05:10 PM

I will be glad to tell you who this is once I get my refund. I am fumming right now. I never thought that I would get burned by a vendor, not from this forum, but....for now ill leave it at that. I will post a copy of my invoice and a copy of whatever money he reimburse for everyone to see for his error and inferior part.

 No way I would pay a cent for that piece of junk. How could they ship something that bad to anyone. 100% refund plus 2 way shipping on that. They have big brass ones to think you should pay anything at all for that.

ProfessorDeath 04-23-2013 07:21 PM

Bummer. I wouldn't offer a dime and would expect full reimbursement or replacement with a proper product.

rhedrich 04-23-2013 08:10 PM

You need to get full refund. Did you pay by credit card. If you did talk to the credit company to work with you on this. I want to know who did this to you. Is it a forum vendor :ack:

Pittcorvette 04-23-2013 08:22 PM

I promise to pass out more information. Like I said I like for the sale to speak for itself. Everyone here has seen the item that I received. Now im going to leave it up to the vendor. I will post the invoice of what the hood was sold to me for and what they reimbursed me, which will speak volumes of their customer service. At that point it will be up to all of you if you would like to continue to do business with them. They pride themselves with american build but how about american customer service? I am a member of this and several other forums and will be glad to share my story with all of them. Again, im asking for patience to see if that vendor will do the right thing.

rhedrich 04-23-2013 08:54 PM

I was looking at the same hood since I am doing a wide body upgrade and was going to pull the trigger this weekend but now I have to wait who is the vendor I don't want to order from.:toetap:

I really wouldn't waste one moment with them to "reimburse" you, especially since they want you to eat the shipping.

Just simply dispute the credit card charge with the complete documentation as evidence.

The process is as easy as pie, and the money is back where it belongs, "in your pocket".

incabird 04-23-2013 09:18 PM

I have to say I agree with the posts suggesting filing a dispute with your credit card company. I think the photos themselves should be evidence enough to refuse full payment. It is not your fault they sent you a bad product. Why should you pay for their mistake? Tell them to send a prepaid shipping tag and give it back to them. If they refuse, let them fight it out with the credit card company.

Johnathon59 04-23-2013 09:56 PM

Did the seller state in writing that it would fit like (as good as) the original ?? if so I would dispute the charges with your CC company, if NO statement as far as alignment guarantee,
you will just have to take the loss $$ , sorry.:(

Sorry for your bad experinece, but a simple search on the forums would have given you all the information needed to stay away from this hood. The Hightech vented hood fits like crap and most of us know it. I thought about getting one myself, until the bodyshop told me they had to go through five hoods on another C6 just to get one that only needed three hours of trimming work. They told me they will not touch that hood again. The hood you bought is probably one of the worst hoods for the Corvette in terms of fittment. Since you already have it, you might as well chalk up the heavy dollars to get a bodyshop to TRY and get it to fit with some resemblence of the stock fit. Good luck with that.

No, it was sent back to the vendor. I don't trust that hood on my vett. I wish i would have known this earlier. But my issue is now with the vendors customer service. But, I believe in karma, and in the power of social media.

HiTech is the company that started that hood. MTI Racing also used to carries it.

:iagree:

Can we assume it's not a Hi Tech hood, but someone else attempt at a similar design?

I've seen some amazing body work done to alter/align/fit various body parts but that particular hood looks a little too far out of whack to make it worth the effort.

Here's a couple pics of Hi Tech hoods that have been posted on the Forum.

This is a Hi-Tech although in carbon it is the same as their hood in glass, (this is the original vented hood, note only 4 open vents). The fit and finish is as good as to be expected with an aftermarket hood. Any time a part is "knocked off" another part there will be a compromise in quality. It is a shame (or as some would say, a compliment) for someone to "copy" a product. In defense of whoever made the, knockoff hood in this thread, it does not apear the hood was "fit" to the car. Or should I say, the car was fit to the hood. All the adjoining parts, fenders, latch, hinges, and bumpers would and will need adjustment.

So who was the bad vendor I was looking for this hood but want to make sure I'm not screwed

davidtcpa 04-25-2013 09:10 AM

Hopefully the vendor will make good on the hood. I have had issues with parts before, it happens. But the vendors I have bought from (all CF vendors) have been amazing and stand by their products. OP, I would dispute the complete charge and get one from a VF vendor. Maybe it will be more expensive, maybe not, but you will get great customer service and that is worth the price!! Good luck!!

It's my understanding that this is from a vendor here. Also, being a vendor here really only means you're paying your dues....we've had a LOT of bad vendors come through, although most are pretty decent.

No, I decided to go with the world challenge hood from Zip-Corvette. I wanted more ventilation than is offered by the Hitech hood. I also didn't care for the way the hood slope met up with the front bumper.

Still would be good to know what brand hood it is though just in case someone else is selling it.

I got that same style hood with all 6 ports open through Ecklers. The fit wasn't 100% but my body shop was able to work with it. We adjusted the bumper and both front fenders to fit it.

Thats hood looks VERY GOOD on your car. Great looking color also.

With this hood being so popular you'd think the vendors would work to get the fit as close to 100% as possible.

It would be good if there was a list of vendors that offered this style hood with a "Good Fit"... It would help avoid having another unhappy customer / member...

I know we all are excited when we get something new and cant wait to get it... But if it arrives broken, damaged, or defective it can give you a very bad feeling. It would help if there was a way to avoid the bad parts.

Thanks for the compliment!
The only modification"I" did was to bevel the side and front edges on the bottom that meet the gaskets, this makes for a nicer fit as the stock hood is thinner. I mounted the hood to the car myself and as I said, it is necessary to adjust the fenders, hinges, latch, and snubbers. These parts all need to be adjusted even with factory parts (the reason they are adjustable). I chose to leave the outside carbon but had the bottom painted Cyber Grey (comes black).

Now that hood looks to fit pretty good. The lines on that hood looks good and along the fender looks straight and looks to fit the sides of the fender good. It looks to be a Good part.

The fit is as good as it gets. This hood has been around for awhile, and is the original. The bottom could be finished a little nicer, depends on how much time you want to spend on it. My avatar is the bottom.

I got that same style hood with all 6 ports open through Ecklers. The fit wasn't 100% but my body shop was able to work with it. We adjusted the bumper and both front fenders to fit it.

All 6 ports / vents OPEN ? (Thats Good) ... Is your hood carbon fiber or fiber glass?

Did your body shop have to shave the edges of the hood or just line up the fenders and bumper?

Are the lines and the edges of the hood correct? And not crooked lines like in the OP's pics?

From your pic it looks like yours turned out GREAT.

Your car looks awesome, but wouldnt moving fenders and bumpers cause problems. Shouldn't a 700 to 1400 dollar hood fit?

:lurk:

If you used an Amex and you don't get a full refund, you still might be able to dispute the charge after the fact. I have had successful challenges to Amex charges months after the transaction. Whatever you do, best of luck.

You'd think the hood would fit perfect for that kind of money, but considering everything is hand made I'm sure there will be variations.

I don't know exactly what they did to get the hood to fit, I just dropped it off with them. I was told there are some adjustments built into the bumper mounts to tweak the height at the top, and used some washers under the bolts on the top of the fenders to adjust the height in different places as the curve of the hood doesn't exactly follow the curves of the fender. The gaps are pretty consistent and even.

But getting the supersonic blue to match without blending was a whole different story.

Your car is gorgeous!

if you readjusted the fenders how is the gap at the doors now?

Nothing caught my eye, I'll go take a closer look though.
