Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 info
 

Since I will be getting new tires soon for my 08 base coupe, I contacted Michelin about availability timing and sizes. The new Pilot Sport A/S 3 will not be available until July, and the sizes that I need (285/35-19 rears and 245/40-18 fronts) will not be available until at least the 4th quarter of this year.

Looks like I will be getting new Firehawk Wide Ovals next month!

That is exactly what I had to do today. I was interested in the new Michelins also but couldn't wait. My first Firestones so we will see how I like them.

I contacted Michelin Customer Care. They told me. Not what I wanted to hear, but....

The current Michelin Pilot Sport AS is an excellant tire. The difference in the current tire and the new one is mostly propaganda to sell more tires. Michelin Pilot Sport has had an excellant tire for Corvette fitment for years.

What do Firestone Wide Ovals have that even begin to approach this advanced technology?

With only 2/32 left on my oem GYs looks like I will have to 'settle' for the SP Plus A/Ss also.

Does anyone know if these will be run flats?

Those people that buy the Firestone's will not be dissapointed.

I think the Firestones are very good tires...the dealbreaker for me is that they say "DO NOT REPAIR TIRE" on the sidewall.:thumbs:

There has been a lot of discussion here about that subject, so about 9 months ago I phoned Firestone and asked the question. The person on the phone wasn't sure but put me on hold for a while for research.

The official answer was that the Firestone runflats in my size (base C6, I didn't ask about others) are not permitted to be repaired under any circumstances. Even if you get a small nail in the middle of the tread that makes the tire go flat in your garage overnight; and you remove the wheel and take it in to the shop so it's never driven flat; no repair permitted.

I think that's silly, just lawyers run amok. But that's the official position and any shop that does repair one, has a big liability exposure.

However, a number of people have reported getting one repaired with no problem, so it's something of a crap shoot.

Since we take very long road trips in our C6, I want the greatest possible chance of being able to repair a tire instead of spending the $$$ and waiting for a new tire to be shipped to Nowhere, Oklahoma. So we will stay with Michelins; no guarantee of being able to repair but the odds go up. People who use their cars locally, and/or buy the Road Hazard policy, might be well served by the Firestones.

It doesn't say that though...it just says "DO NOT REPAIR TIRE". No tire should be repaired if the sidewall is punctured and no responsible tire store will do it....but I'm not aware of any other tire that says "DO NOT REPAIR TIRE" on the sidewall. I agree with Jim above.:thumbs:

:iagree: That is a major con for the Firestones. A/S ZP is a great tire if you do regular cruising, not that great for max dry grip though.

I hope they also will make them for the GS/Z06 sizes as I run those on my base coupe:rock:

Exactly !! The Firestone shop I had mine installed at said they would repair a tire and they did.

Mich AS Rf SP Plus is definitely not a tire one would refer as a tire
to have to settle on. They are so much quieter than the GY'S. Ride
better, hold the road better wet or dry.

A friend put a non RF major brand on his Z06 about the same
time as I put these on. He has about 8k on and you can see wear.
He was looking at my set the other day with around the same miles
and stated he can't see any wear.:cheers:

I am sure you are correct about the Mich A/S Plus, and Luke at TireRack agrees also. He wasn't sure if the Mich A/S 3s in our sizes will even be available this year plus they may not offer a runflat version (assuming you prefer rfs).

BTW, Luke agrees that the GY runflats spoiled many people's opinion of RFs, said the Mich RFs are very different.

Mich A/S Plus ZP is the way to roll...great for daily drivers!
