Confirmation from GM on C7 accident
I just got this info from the media guys at Chevrolet...
monte.doran@chevrolet.com We can confirm that during routine testing, a Stingray was involved in a one-car accident. During evaluation, the driver caught the inside tire caught the edge of the pavement during a tight corner, leading to the accident. Thankfully, no one was hurt, the car received only minor damage, and no citations were issued. Best, Monte Monte Doran Chevrolet Communications Renaissance Center 100 / 30 / D66 |

How can that be an "official" statement from Chevy Communications with grammar that poor?
"...the driver caught the inside tire caught..." Seriously? |

The first of many more to come.

Which is it, the test driver from GM cannot drive or an issue with the car?

Seeing the picture, I could only deduce that there was an incident, or parking was short and the driver had to improvise. *Just for the record, I'm having fun. I couldn't care less about the grammar* |
Driver not Jim Mero
The driver is not Jim Mero as reported earlier

No matter what your field or assigned task I am sure everyone here has made more than one small mistake. Raise your hand if you have never missed a meeting, misinterpreted a question or comment, been incorrect with a forecast, failed to come up with the best solution to a problem/situation, etc. I am very careful with email because I do a lot of policy interpretation and explanation but I also send so many email per day that I cannot reread them 10 ways to Sunday before I send or I would never accomplish what must be accomplished. Even as careful as I am I do recall sending out one that, due to a typo, appeared to be part of a communication from Tonto to the Lone Ranger. The only important thing is the driver was fine, the sequence of events was not from mechanical failure, and Blue (the car, not Ox) will be running at full speed very soon. |

Thankfully, no one was hurt, the car received only minor damage, and no citations were issued. Update – Chevrolet’s response: Monte Doran, Chevrolet’s communications manager for Corvette/Camaro sent us the following statement in response to our inquiries about the C7 accident: We can confirm that during routine testing, a Stingray was involved in a one-car accident. During evaluation, due to driver error the inside tire caught the edge of the pavement during a tight corner, leading to the accident. Thankfully, no one was hurt, the car received only minor damage, and no citations were issued. We can also confirm that test driver Jim Mero (Nurburgring ZR1 driver) was not driving the Laguna Blue Corvette Stingray at the time of the accident. Source: DigitalCorvettes.com |
Let's try this again with proper grammar LOL -

Still not proper grammar. 1st sentence has restrictive relative clauses and should not have a comma. 2nd sentence take out the parenthetical expression between the commas and you get the sentence "During evaluation leading to the accident." That is not a sentence. 3rd sentence, with three terms with a single conjunction, appears correct. |

Thankfully no one was hurt and the Vette recieved minor damage. Now put it back on the road and see how durable it is after repairs. Real world testing can't be any more accurate. Something similar happened last year on the Big Sur run we had up here in Northern "Kalifornia". The C6 Vette got messed up realy bad but the driver was fine. |
How many of you will postpone buying an early model if they find out that it is a design flaw that caused the accident. Happens all of the time in the first models.

IMO no way was that the cause, come on he caught an edge and lost it? More than likely it was just horsing around, I don't know who it bodes for worse otherwise, thedrivers lack of skill or the cars inability to be corrected!

The very job of a test driver is to test the limits. That road, if it is the one I am thinking of between Wickenburg and Prescott, is a blast to do it on. Twisties on the side of a hill with many switchbacks because of the elevation changes. It essentially rises from desert floor in Wickenburg to the pine trees in Prescott. Where pavement ends and shoulder begins there are periodically places the dirt/gravel erodes away by rain and has to be filled in. We have had a lot of moisture here the past couple of weeks. As the old saying goes, there but for the Grace of God go MANY of us

It rains there? LOL
I guess that could be the case, he might have hooked a wheel and lost it! I guess us regular folk find it hard to believe that a test driver would lose a mule like that if the area was too compromising, especially with such few cars to be driven. Thankfully he's okay but my money is still on monkey business, not pushing it to the limit! Thumbs up... |

@ rcallen, sounds like a blast! We have some decent twisties here in the NE but usually with not much run off! Then again those rock walls don't offer too much for error either!! @joesC5, I think it's fair to say we all have one of those stories! i once sideswiped a tree b/c my friend was stanging on the door sill and me like an idiot was watching him and not the road!! P.S. lucky for your pal she did not bite down...lol.

May I suggest a vette7 prayer vigil be held today at 6:30pm EST per this forum. Perhaps Blue Ox resident C7 Dalai Lama can preside over the services? Actually if you look at the photo there does not appear to be and wash out or curb edging although it might be different where he went off! Looking at the lose gravel it's my guess he got in those marbels and lost it!

I guess Tadge is going to have to tweak the car some more so you can program "narrow road, loose gravel, no shoulder" into the computer. |
