rear wheel HP

a new 6.2 liter (376 cubic inch) LT1 V-8 engine that pumps out 450 horsepower and 450 lb.-ft. of torque to the rear wheels

I found the information above at the Chicago Auto Show web-site. 400 HP to the wheels = what at the flywheel?

Auto or manual transmission? Driveline losses are greater for an auto.

flywheel

500 hp at the flywheel???

Sounds like a miss-print. GM is targeting 450/450 at the flywheel and that is all they are saying for the moment. SAE certification tests will likely be next month so we will have to wait until after that for the final numbers.

misprint

Lets hope its not a misprint, remember GM said estimated 450 HP, I can wish right?

CitationZ06@yahoo 02-07-2013 12:09 PM

my math is 467.5-480.

ATC399 02-07-2013 12:11 PM

We'll find out in short order..jmho it will be closer to the C6Z than alot of current Z owners would like it to be....its progress...

auto show

If you have a moment you should go to the Chicago Auto Show web-site and read the information about the C7 it is very good and talks a lot about carbon fiber panels. This is the link.

I'm wondering now, has GM actually stated anywhere "More than 450hp flywheel or rwhp" or just "More than 450hp."?
If the latter, and they are just giving estimated Rwhp estmates it would be in line with the gains it should be making with the new tech at the flywheel. Between 475-500.

We will see soon enough, I guess.

Your right, It does say that!!! I'm sure its a misprint...

RT2SJB 02-07-2013 12:20 PM

suprised

I agree with the post above it will be closer to the C6 Z06 only with a better torque and HP curve, I think we will all be suprised and impressed.

ATC399 02-07-2013 12:20 PM

Hmmmn..with the narrow tires and that much torque traction control is going to be working overtime

robvuk 02-07-2013 12:24 PM

Using the standard 12 - 15% drivetrain loss, 400hp at the wheels translates to 455 - 470 hp at the flywheel.

Hardly true anymore in modern automatics. The difference is pretty much negligible.

The size of the tires is ultimately meaningless. All that matter is how much grip they have, and GM claims they have plenty.

RT2SJB 02-07-2013 12:25 PM

total package

with the new tire technology and advanced computer controlls this could get interesting, can anyone fine anything from GM that stated 450 RWH or 450 flywheel HP? I can not.

NSC5 02-07-2013 12:30 PM

Quoting from the auto show website, ".... pumps out 450 horsepower and 450 lb.-ft. of torque to the rear wheels" I believe this is just "average consumer speak" for the C7 is rear wheel drive. The engine pumps it out but not all of it is going to get to the wheels :)

ok...contact patch is meaningless...TYHO...

RT2SJB 02-07-2013 12:35 PM

500hp

Boy I can already feel the backlash but I am going to go ahead and put this out there. I think the C7 will be 500 hp and 500 flb of torque at the flywheel and suprise everyone. Ok have at it and blast away but I am a glass half full not half empty kind of guy. We will know soon I think GM is leaking these kinds of details out a bit at a time to keep us interested.

ATC399 02-07-2013 12:36 PM

500/500 would be very nice....No backlash...its YHO

450bhp x 88%(manual w/12% loss)) = 396rwhp

450bhp x 85%(auto w/15%) = 383rwhp.

13hp is a lot. People spend lots of money to gain 13hp at the rear wheels.

So, you believe that a Michelin Pilot Super Sport ZP that is 285mm wide will have the same adhesion as a Michelin pilot Super Sport ZP that is 325mm wide, both being of identical design(compound, tread design, etc).
