how much power does it take to beat a Z06
I have a base c6 with full exhaust, vararam cold air and a custom grind cam by pat G. I haven't had the chance to put it on the dyno but yesterday I ran a stock c6 Z and came out victorious. I know that a stock Z comes with around 450 to the wheel but it is also lighter than the base so is it safe to say I'm over 450?
|
450-460 ish if you are manual. Auto will need more because of gearing.
|
If you are a M6 it's a driver's race. A good driver in a stock C6 will beat a poor driver in a Z06.
If you are an A6, a high stall converter may be all that's needed to beat the average Z06 driver. It can quickly come down to traction and who gets it best. If you come up against a good Z06 driver, you're going to have a really tough time winning that one. |
It almost all depends on the driver. Reminds me of a story that took place in the '60s...
There was this guy named Steve who owned a '65 GTO. This car had major mods and he street raced it a lot and beat a lot of other cars. Another guy buys a '63 Chevy with a 409 and thinks he has a really hot car. Challenges the GTO for $100. GTO wins. "Best 2 out of 3"? Sure. GTO wins all three times. The best part: GTO and 409 drivers swap cars. Now the 409 (with the GTO driver) wins... |
I know the z06 is 300lbs lighter....so how much more hp do you need to make of for the weight differance?

Add an intake, headers, exhaust and custom tune. That will do it driver for driver.

Good luck with that......It will take, at least a cam. I can pull a LS3, at least 10 car lenths in a race. I don't think bolt-ons will make up the difference.
|
I have 440 rwhp, an A6 and a 3600 stall. I have ran 2 Z06's and haven't been able to touch them on high end.
|
Its not always about how much hp, I think its more about your sixty foot. If the Z06 driver can get a good sixty foot you won't be able to keep up with him in a 1/4 mile run and forget anything further than that. With a good sixty foot you can run with most Z06s. I have run a few Z06s and they pull real hard on the top end of the 1/4 mile normally running near 130 mph to my 124. I run 11.teens with only bolt ons and converter with a tune and only lost to 1 Z06 in a race. I think I am at about 400 rwhp. I have over 100 passes and most Z06 drivers can't get a 1.55 sixty foot.
|
1/4 mile I can run with most Z06's, 1/2 mile and high way pulls is another story.

I know for sure boltons wont do the trick. I got beat like I was standing still with just full exhaust, and intake.

Those are some nice running Vettes(non Z06) 99.9% of the guys are not going to see those type numbers.....just like I can't run with Ranger.
'Teether' mentioned the 60' times. Getting a Z out of hole with stock tires can be a real bitch. |

Not only do you have to make up the difference between 436 HP vs 505HP, you have the 100-200 lb difference give or take between the Z and base C6. Of course it's a "drivers race" what race is not  You could put someone in a twin turbo GTR vs a C5, and if the GTR driver sucks, the C5 could probably even win that race. If the drivers of both cars are even somewhat close the Z06 will win easily... it's just the pecking order of the models... Just like a ZR1 will walk away from the Z06 once you start getting into the triple digits. |
I have rolled with a few Z06's...3 to be exact.
2 stock ones and 1 w/ ex/int/tune I made 440 whp and have an LS3 1LT w/LT, EX, INTK and TUNE...I do have Oz racing rims..which are a bit lighter then my factory ones. I beat the 2 stock Z's by a fender or so....I lost to the bolt on Z by approx 2 cars...these runs were to about 130mph in a closed circuit area...all from a roll. I can tell you that I fully expect to beat a bolt on Z when I get my cam next month..should be around 480-500whp....that extra 40-60 should be enough to make up what I lost to.... Just my experiences. |

Just my experiences. Most bolt on Z's are going to be easily at the 480-500RWHP range you plan on hittiing when you cam your car (by bolt on's I mean , headers, CAI and a tune, stock cam) How much lighter are your wheels than the factory ones? Weight is a big deal, so smart that you went with lighter wheels to offset some of the weight between your car and the Z. |
