Back up camera in 2013 Grand Sport
I am looking to see if there is a back-up camera kit for a 2013 Grand Sport with factory navigation? Thanks in advance with any help available.

Sorry to be the first to tell you the bad news but you will not be able to add a rear camera to the stock NAV system.
You will need to change out to an aftermarket radio to do this. If changing to aftermarket radio is an option we will be glad to help assist you with all the info and items to do this Dennis |
Google this: LockPick GMX-360 C6 Corvette
It is pretty pricey and you may be better off upgrading to an aftermarket nav unit. |

I don't know if this is still the case but when I contacted them in oct-nov they told me it wont work on a 2013 via email
|
It will be a federal law that cars will have to come equipped with rear cams so you can just wait for your next car purchase or get a new Corvette when this becomes law or use a Garmin or Magellan GP S selected unit.

If we sent out 10 of them 9 would come back with issues. I in the end would refuse to sell one of these to a customer. Major pain to install and they just did not work. This is why Coastaltech does not offer them anymore. |

I also heard the Lockpick is unreliable. Aftermarket is probably your best option and Dennis is a good choice to go with.
Thanks:D:cheers: |
How about the new mirror from GM that has it in the mirror.

The GM mirror with the monitor built in is nearly $600 (just for the mirror). For that much money, you can get a brand new stereo system from Double D with the rearview camera fully integrated and do a whole lot more.
Not 100% certain the GM mirror with monitor will integrate seamlessly into the Corvette. Thanks for recommendation:D:cheers: especially when you take into consideration the selling of your stock nav unit to offset the price example Kenwood DNX690 package 900.00 add ipod and camera for 70.00 that's 970.00 Sell your stock unit for say 500.00 that's 400.00 out of pocket. The Lockpick was 350.00 camera was 70.00 that's 420.00 out of pocket 20.00 more than the Kenwood would be and you get more features and much better NAV:thumbs: |

so this was wrong info Hello, Thank you so much for your inquiry. Unfortunately at this time your 2013 Corvette is not on the approved list of vehicles that work with the LockPick product. However, we are always adding new makes and models to the lineup. I would recommend checking back with us within a couple of months to ensure compatibility with your particular vehicle. Thanks again and I look forward to speaking with you soon. |

Well thats what the folks from lockpick sent me in reply, maybe they were just covering the fact it didn't work
They even still have them listed for purchase on their own website :crazy2: http://www.coastaletech.com/corvettelockpicks.htm |
Someone here mounted the screen for a backup camera on or near his sun visor, looked like it worked well.

lockpick is very unreliable I had in in few of my corvettes and couldn't be more disappointed, its a money pit they dont' last more than few month, and always had to go back and pay my installers to replce for a new one. Aftermarket navigation didn't seem like an option as for some weired reason I liked the original navigation system, So for my 2013 corvette camera solution, I had sent my navigation radio out to navtool and I couldn't be more happy, not only the radio was done in one day I have reiceved the radio back form navtool already modified with a video interface for camera and that inteface is made in USA:flag:, finally not CHINA |

I sold my 2012 NAV basically new out of my GS for 700.00 which includes the antenna and disk |

I know they come on the Mustangs in the rearview mirror.:lurk: |
I looked at a 2009 Z06 that had a Kenwood head unit installed in place of the factory unit before I bought my Grandsport. Some of the things I noticed were that:
I liked the navigation more on the Kenwood My iPhone 5 works well with the factory, but the contacts do not transfer - have to save up to 30 numbers seperatly in the factory unit The Kenwood had the backup camera and it seemed to be fine, it also had the Metra GMOS-04 GM Factory Integration Adapter so that all the controls, bose speakers and chimes still worked. All said, the Kenwood seemed to be better for actually using it over the factory navigation unit and to be honest, I generally don't use the factory nav and just use my iPhone instead at this point for directions. If you like the "factory look" you might not want to tear out part of a package that GM charged you way too much for, but if you want something that allows you to add the camera and also gain better use of your phone and to me a better navigaion system the after market might be the way to go. Not sure what it does to resale value of the Vette, but you can always keep the factory unit so that it can be put back in. On my long list of things to do . . . |
Has anyone come up with an aftermarket unit that will show turns/countdown on the HUD, like the factory nav? That might get me to switch.
We keep hearing promises, but so far it seems to be vaporware. |
2014 C7 comes with backup camera as standard equipment on all model including 1LT.

I have always put the lockpicks on my previous vehicles and never had any issue. They are not compatible with 2012 and newer factory nav units because of the work GM did to add the ipod interface in. I've been looking for a good solution because I want to keep my factory nav. So far, I haven't seen a good solution out there.
|
I'm going with this next week, I'm not buying a c7 for a few more years so I'm getting the factory nav replaced with this.

cool idea, more info please!
one must be willing to forego the vanity mirror for the driver. In my case, I never used the mirror, so it was an easy decision to make. I do have a PDF file with instructions of how to insert a monitor into the Vanity mirror cover, and attach it to the visor. 1) The visor has to be removed from the car in order to do this mod. Instructions can be found on this forum, but if not, I do have those saved. 2) The vanity mirror has to be taken out of the visor. The wiring for the mirror and homelink is left in place, and the on/off button can be cut out of the circuit and wires taped. 3) The monitor power supply can come from the back up lights. 4) All the wiring from the camera to the monitor is run under the windshield side pillar moulding, so all wiring is hidden. I have PM'd you the PDF. If you have any questions or concerns, please PM me. I bought the monitor and camera for less than $40.00. It takes patience and a few tools to cut out the hole in the cover to fit the monitor. Counting all the material including the 1/8" rod, I have about $50.00 in this mod. |

Aftermarket Nav was the best thing I ever did to my interior. Even more of a bump if you come from a 1LT. Nav (that can actually guide me to POI or my house) DVD, Bluetooth, back up camera. Picked mine up originally from DD Mods and sold my stock one for almost the price to cover the whole new setup.

Dennis, I am thinking of putting in the Kenwood DNX(insert highest number here), along with several of the doo-dads (cameras/ipod/etc.) when i return from Afghanistan this fall. Any recomended installers in the Las Vegas area?

Best stock nav unit ?? Samsung S3 running Google Maps. I'm wondering how swapping out anything stock from the car would mess with the HUD.
|
Does anyone know what changes GM did to my 2013 GS NAV to support bluetooth - usb - miniplug audio that earlier NAVs did not have.. Also with steering wheel support.. Can the new additions support camera or video..
|
no camera option for stock radio.....
|
That was my first mod for my 2LZ Z06. Ripped the facotry bose crap out and replaced it with aftermarket kenwood, speakers, amp, sub and reverse cam.
|
Anyone know if a new Camaro rear-view mirror w the backup camera will go into a 2013 GS? Saw the early tread about $600 but we can get them cheaper now.
|
I just had the new Pioneer 6000 NEX installed what a super radio with nav. A backup camera is available.
|
Go to Amazon and search for rear view camera.
Many options available. Picture won't show on your dash unit, but easier and cheaper than buying a new radio. |
Backup camera for 2013 grand sport
Any recommendations for aftermarket camera or any updates on available solutions since last comments?

Looking at mine it doesn't seem like I can run the video cable via the sunvisor tube. Thank you Tony |

Looking at mine it doesn't seem like I can run the video cable via the sunvisor tube. Thank you Tony Your right, there is no way to run the video cable through the sunvisor tube. The hole will only accommodate the wiring for the vanity light/Homelink. I ran my cable behind the tube, and used black wrap around the tube/ and cable to hide the cable. I ran the cable through the side of the sunvisor material, the part that is tucked inside. I snipped a piece on the corner to pass the cable through and into the visor behind the monitor. |
I have the Alpine ILX007 I dash media with back up camera in my GS and love it. Going to add a front camera for curbs. Wouldn't want any other I dash unit. Alpine rocks.
But then again, I'm more tech savvy. I think all the major players in the audio game have great head units so good luck deciding on which one if you choose that route. |

Also I have the Alpine back up camera with the Alpine license plate frame camera mount. It has led lights for the license plate and makes the camera adjustable for angle. No holes drilled. I did remove the light bulbs from the factory license plate lights since the alpine has them and they work great. I used security fasteners so it would be a little harder to steal, but I don't think anyone even realizes it there.
