That motor won't clown around!

breecher_7 01-29-2013 09:40 PM

I believe there 390ci engines use a C - series crank, a 5140 forging. Not a 4340 forging like the compstar. You said "comp" crank, that's where my confusion comes in. Should go good if those heads don't just fall apart or crack while your torquing them down!

Very Cool

2 questions

1. Does the Dallas direct drive bolt up to an iron block 100%

2. What does the RX monster can look like & how is it plumbed

(thinking you'd be better off with a big remote breather catch can, maybe 2)

Good luck with the build Brian... Sounds like it will be a beast...

AES will have to drill and tap a hole on the right side of the iron block, All LS blocks have this hole already! They have done this for a few motors already!

I don't have a pic of the Monster can but it is huge, I have not got that far as far as the routing of the lines, but RX states there can works for big boost!

That was a very nice post Jay, didn't know you had it in you!

The direct drive will not just bolt up to the block. The lq9 block only has one of the bolt holes of the 3 on the bracket. There is a boss on the block for a second of the 3, it will need to be drilled and tapped. There is no provision for the third and upper bolt next to the timing cover. You can either fab a bracket and run to a timing cover bolt or just forget about the 3rd bolt. It's plenty stron with the two and does not flex at all.

Thanks Tony, I changed it, it is a C- Series crank! And thanks for concern on the heads man! If they fail in any way, I'll slap on some LSAs.

2. The can is plumbed center line of the can going to the driverside rear valve cover outlet. Then one of the outer lines going to the vacume line just behind the T.B.on the intake. Then the other outer line on the other side of the can goes into the pipe about six inches infront of the blower.

Funny that your engine would be done on April Fools day

Seriously tho I wanna see what this thing is gonna do when it is all done. Nice looking build you have going

Looks like a SOLID build plan.... Should make some serious power..

JDS99 01-29-2013 11:57 PM

Good stuff

If you're dropping the engine in, make sure to clearance the passenger's side motor mount bracket before dropping the engine in. The LQ9 has a threaded boss in the way that you won't need. Ask me at what point I figured that out when I dropped mine in..

Good call on the LS3 oil pan. I did the same and was able to drop the 402 in from the top, with SFI bellhousing on, and stab the clutch and pilot without ever dropping the cross-member 1mm. :smash:

AES may be doing it already, but have them drill and tap the extra oil pan bolt hole while their at it

Good luck and enjoy the build man.

The motor is coming out the bottom, sorry for saying "drop new motor in", It will be much easier to get the headers in as well!

I like the idea of an extra oil drain plug, thanks for that tip!

That car should run it's ass off literally. Good luck on the build and have fun.

Well my goal would be 1000hp! However I 'm pretty sure that my Novi 2k will be more than maxed out with 3.0, DD and 10% OD and I'm not changing head units so 1000 is out of the question.

According to a few members the 2k max is 900-950 if I'm lucky. Doug is tuning the car and whatever he is able to get out of it I guess thats what it will be! I am hoping for 900, anything after that will be a bonus!

Good Luck with the build Clown:rock:
