My point is that that I'm hearing a bunch of talk that is coming out both sides of their(GM) mouths.

The politician crap was an analogy and I wasn't calling Tom Peter a politician, but that GM (who Peters and Reuss both work for in a management position) was acting like one.

Some things to think about when viewing specific parts of a car vs taking in the entire car as a whole: what's it do to the flow of air over, around, under, or through the car? The ass-end of a car is just as important as the front of the car when it comes to aero. I know it may seem like they just designed the ass of the cars (C5/C6/C7) in a vacuum, or they ran out of ideas, or ... (I've heard them all... :)) but in truth they didn't. They had to balance aero and styling to try and keep the Cd down.

I was referring to the cosmetic details, not the shape, size, and contour of the whole fascia piece, or the underbody strakes. I agree that those elements are all essential parts of the aero and were definitely budgeted in. Panel creases, indentation around the taillights, the "tear ducts", and the panel lines are not. This is the part where I am saying they ran out of time and ideas. I am an RC flyer and am unfortunately very familiar with this problem.

Boy, if you think the C7 looks 'asian' just wait until you see the new 'EvoMustang' in the next year or two!

There are a ton of them...just google 2015 Mustang.

arkus 01-25-2013 07:28 PM

I like most of the renderings of it .

I've never bought a mustang and probably never will but IDK 662 hp is quite a bit ..

The new mustang looks like it was designed by Mazda. You think they are yelling here go to a Mustang thread...

Yell at your critters. Tell them pedestrians don't need protection, they need to watch out for oncoming cars. Otherwise we're going to get some strange-looking vehicles in the near future.

Hell, here in CA no one looks. They run right out into the cross walk because they expect everyone to stop for them.

Back on topic - thanks to OP for article. Great read.

Best 'Stang comment I've read is "nice Hyundai.......wait, that's the new Mustang? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO..." :leaving:

Interesting you say that. In our talk with Tom, I commented on how this car was more "Dense" with visual features and cues, especially compared to the previous generation. His comment was that younger designers are more apt to cram more in, and he referenced various social and physical influences. Also, theres a significant Asian influence, and their design tends to reflect that it's difficult to view cars as a whole in their tight cities, and the designs are driven by 'snippet views'.
I think one indication of GMs desire to court a younger buyer is the dash, and it's various configurations. Old geezers aren't too enthralled by the complexity of that, I imagine.,
