IMHO THE deal on CF right now is this 2011 carbon listed at $66,000...if I had only known i'd have jumped all over it. It will go fast.

4LZ can be all black.

Wow learned something new, I didn't know there was a 4LZ; was that the 3LZ package in black only? What were its differences from 3LZ?

I saw several references but nothing definitive; GT1,Z06 RPO CSC (Competition Sport Corvette)
No matter how you cut it, pretty rare at only 50 units.

Ok, so what am I gaining from going to an 07 to an 09?

Sorry...I meant 4LT, which is the same as 3LZ...can be all black, not only two tone

Get a '12 or '13 since the valve guide issue was alleged to be fixed in 2/2011. There is no official announcement because that would mean admitting there was a problem, but the word on the down low is it was fixed 2/11

But, to answer your question. An '07 still has a T-56 transmission, the 2009 will have a TR6060 and the better variable ratio steering system. Both are definite gains.

Do some research, there will be some other minor differences.

The great thing about the entire C6 run: Chevrolet consistently made it better and better throughout the entire life cycle of the C6.

No you were right, there it is at corvetteblogger 50 units 2009 z06 4LZ.

In an '09 there were improvements in the dry sump capacity and performance. In '11 they started inspection of the valve guides to solve the issue where small machining issues with a supplier were causing dropped valves (which is why the suggestion get an '12 or '13) BTW if you find a good price on an '09; then the cost to put in hardened valve guides might be less than the difference to buy a more expensive late model. The fix will cost 3 to 4K. If you do that there are other things you mights as well do at the same time..breaking the warranty. The dropped valve issue seems to be seen in higher mileage cars (20000 miles) ; so a lower mileage car with an issue is not likely. I'm sure there have been though, as Murphy probably has an office in GM.

This is the big downside to reading on here some times... You start to believe its worth spending $15k to get slightly, barely noticable improvements on certain items. For example one nano second faster response in steering.

That's a good point.

For the average driver, who doesn't track his car, a lot of these improvements will make no difference.

Also, if you believe what you read here, almost ALL of the earlier Z06's will have valve guide issues, and if you buy one and don't fix it pro-actively, your engine will blow up.

Things tend to get blown out of proportion here. You find one 08 Z06 with 20k miles that sells for 33K, so anyone who lists their 08 Z for over 40K is either insane, or dreaming.

Then you dig deeper...that 08 sold for 33K because it was a stripped 1LZ, was beaten to death, smelled like cigarettes, and the guy who owned had a huge lien against it and was getting divorced and losing his job. And his dog needs expensive hip surgery:thumbs:

By the way, what happened to Dr. Gordon, resident chiro??

SgtRod 02-25-2013 11:17 AM

Thank you for some validation, sir :)

I would like to add that maybe a low 18k mile 08 for $35k is too good to be true...but at the same time, some people are still trying to sell 1999s-2002 all for over $20k...its not the 90s people.

And quite honestly, 2006 was 7 years ago...

Rein, your getting a much improved Tr60 transmission instead of a Tr56. You also get the chance to have bluetooth if you buy a 2lz or higher. you get a dry sump which is better for tracking. You do not have to worry about the roof flying off which reoccurred from 06 to early 07. The tires are bigger on an 09. You get a chance to have spyder rims. Machine silver is replaced by a brighter blade silver. Cyber gray becomes an option. Thicker valve coating provides a less chance of the 07 engine failure. basically its a much improved car although the 09 is slightly heavier

The TR6060 over T56 is actually a big improvement, and it starts to get significant as the smaller things add up. As in most high performance things, the last few bits of performance/refinement get more and more expensive.

Oh, I agree. This board is the worst for "chicken littles" that run around screaming the sky is falling when a problem rears it's head. I just pointed out that you *should* escape any worries about exhaust valves dropping when buying a 2012+.

Thank-you sir. As I said, the little things start to add up. The dry sump system was improved and I like Spyder wheels ten times better than the earlier C6 ZO6 wheels. Although if we are talking just ZO6's, there are no roof latches. And on coupes, the roof latches *should* be fixed if the owner took it in for the recall, it's one more thing to check. Again, bottom line: The C6 steadily improved over its life cycle. Kudos to Chevrolet.

Here's a high mileage 07.

Looks to be in good shape for the mileage, customized interior parts, 2LZ with nav, asking $36800 or offer on ebay.

The custom interior pieces kill that one for me. Ugh.

Agree it looks bad, but those two pieces can be replaced for maybe 200. Cheap pieces that come up for sale used often. Im looking to spend about 10K more than that and as such want to find fewer miles...although it does look like a good deal.

Hmmm. Maybe I will investigate further. My budget is $45k MAX. I will NOT go more. Im finding a handful of 2009 1LZ out there within my range, but now Im leary about going with the base interior.

Let It Rein 02-25-2013 02:41 PM

Accident damage reported, left rear impact with no airbags (duh). And the search continues...

USCPTM 02-25-2013 03:20 PM

damn my budget is 35, rein you might be able to get in a 10 for 45. I wouldnt go below an 09 if i was you. 10 has launch control!!!

SgtRod 02-25-2013 04:04 PM

The tires are bigger in the 09 +?
