Only 99lbs lighter

Lots of people are gonna be disappointed.

RandomTask 01-13-2013 07:17 PM

What? Do you realize how difficult it is to shave that much weight out of a car?

A4Blk98SS 01-13-2013 07:17 PM

Better than 99lbs heavier.

VETTEMANN 01-13-2013 07:18 PM

:iagree: Not great.

But to be fair, it says the body materials also reduce by another 37lbs.

But 99lbs + 37lbs = 136lbs ~ not the huge savings that some were hoping for.

RocketGuy3 01-13-2013 07:18 PM

Wait, so we already have a final curb weight? Not just an estimate?

Do we have an exact power output figure, too?

Z06PSI 01-13-2013 07:19 PM

450/450 and 3100-3200 lbs? Should move pretty well.

They said exactly 99 lbs lighter.

People were coming out with crazy under 3G estimates.

most of its from switching to the aluminum frame

without a doubt it will drive better than a C6! i had a C5 before and the C6 drove wayyyy better in the steering feel!!

flashburn 01-13-2013 07:21 PM

They said the FRAME is 99 pounds lighter. They were clear to point this out several times. So who knows what the final value is. Remember it's been said that the LT1 is going to be heavier than the LS-3.

LS1LT1 01-13-2013 07:22 PM

I pretty much called that one, it's VERY difficult (and costly) to shave weight in the modern era even with all of the new technology/materials out there.
I knew that hitting 2900 or even the low 3000 pound range was only a pipedream, but was still hoping for at least the 'high 3000' pound range.
Still awesome though.

99lbs is significant for a car that is already light, plus with the added low end hp, it's gonna haul ass.

:iagree: Magnesium seat frames are pretty cool.

jdhommert 01-13-2013 07:25 PM

Well it did kind of seem to say that hte frame save 99lbs....but they never really said anything about more than that...i didn't see the 37 lb weight savings mentioned earlier in this thread

It DID NOT say 450hp! It said estimated...

jdmvette 01-13-2013 07:28 PM

:iagree:

I heard it was the frame.

puckshaw 01-13-2013 07:29 PM

The FRAME is 99 lbs lighter.

RC000E 01-13-2013 07:29 PM

People are hard of hearing...wtf!

They said FRAME is 99lbs lighter and they said 450hp ESTIMATED...

I imagine the engine hasn't undergone SAE certification yet...

Jinx 01-13-2013 07:30 PM

Taking 99 pounds out of the body structure while making it 57% stiffer is nothing to sneeze at. Let's not forget, the top still comes off.
