WWII Mosquito flys again.......!
 

I know this isn't Corvette, but there's a lot of us who love the old war birds and the restorations thereof. This Mosquito took 5 years to restore, and it flew yesterday for the first time, as is the only flying Mosquito in the world, according to the author. Go big screen, the photography and scenery is beautiful. :thumbs:

All right - strap your ass into some plywood and fabric and away you go! Mosquitos were neat aircraft. A fast two-seater interceptor. It and the Spitfire were two classic designs. :thumbs:

Makes me want to watch 633 Squadron, again.

Did the Mosquito use the same Rolls Royce Merlin engines as the Spitfire and P-51 Mustang?

Yup, twin Merlins made it very fast,(632kph) faster than the fighters of that time....read all about it.....

It was made from "non-strategic" materials (I think it had some sheet metal, but mostly plywood and such, except for the jet) and set a record that still stands today... Drawing board to flying in 90 days.

Course, it ONLY did 750 Km/hr

I did a warbirds aerobatic ride in Fredericksburg, VA years ago and it's definitely one of those "bucket list" things.

And Kermit Week's "Fantasy of Flight" near Lakelad is certainly worth the drive.

My Father was a 30yr Air Force mechanic - and for fun, he was a member of the Confederate Air Force (CAF) - it is now known as the Commemorative Air Force.

I used to help him with the maintenance of the airplanes, and I had several opportunities to fly in a few of the birds of the Southern Minnesota Wing.

The B-25 was loudest thing I have ever been in.

Whenever someone mentions the sound of freedom - this is what I think it sounds like

I was at an air show a waaaay long time ago.. on the Ft Lauderdale Beach.

Mr Weeks flew by in a B-24(?), opened the bombay doors, and dropped a load of melons into the water.

AWESOME!

I took my dad on two of those here in Galveston - a B17 and a B25.

Basically, a flying Rocket. Just enough fuel for a few bomber formation passes, then glided on home.

But hey... 1,123 km/h.. almost twice as fast as a Mosquito

Here is a neat list of Ranked WW2 Fighters by speed... they had to include "theoretical" aircraft, and stuff that wasn't ready to use in theater to get Allied planes in the top 15 or so.

All the scenery and footage you see in first post this thread, is in and around Waikato river & inland waterways around New Zealands largest city Auckland.

Up until today I was would have believed that all Mosquitos had a control yoke. This particular model has a stick.
