Interesting Vette on NCM webcam 6
The Indy Pace Car was a ZR1 with 60th paint and the parade cars were Camaro convertibles. The car on webcam 6 is a 427 conv. with Indy decals on anniverasry paint. Anyone know what the deal is with this car? Sorry no screen grab. Computer at work won't allow it.

Fun...I wonder what the scoop is....

I have a friend that has a 427 Convertable with serial # 36. He was told by his dealer that the first 35 went to Indianapolis for next year's race. If this is true, he has the very first car available to the general public. His was ordered as soon as it was available to do so. This picture kind of lends some credence to this story. Perhaps the convertables will be the parade cars and the ZR1 would be the pace car. Sounds likely to me.

I believe I read that it would be the car that Mario will drive during the opening ceremonies at the next INDY 500.............or perhaps I read it wrong.
|
We can't let Paul post a picture and then not give us any inside scoop.....:D:D

Has GM dropped the stripes on the vert tops now? I don't see them on this car.

I can see the stripes are there, but I have one in my garage for reference. :yesnod:

I would believe that except the car currently at the museum looks like it has the 2012 graphics. They usually change up the graphics each year. If they are going to use 2013 427 convertibles as the parade cars for the 2013 race then I suspect we may see a C7 coupe as the pace car. That would be cool.
|
Those are definitely the graphics from the 2012 pace car which was a 2013 ZR1.

So maybe Mario's gonna drive the C7 for the Indy 500 2013? Considering everything, I wonder if there's a convertible in the first year---probably so, but one never knows.
|
Either GM had a change of heart, or this is a special order that is not in the book. From what I have read, is although the 2012 Pace car was a 2013 ZR1, there were no plans to make them available to the general public. and also the one on the floor at the museum is not a ZR1. So maybe we can get a little more info on it.

Here are a few more photos of the car.

I sent a tweet to @CorvetteMuseum and got the following reply:
R8C Delivery Corvette belonging to IndyCar driver Dario Franchitti. In celebration of his 2012 Indy win? |

Interesting reply as that wasn't supposed to be released or discussed. Any time any celebrity is coming there is always the utmost respect for their privacy and attempts to try to avoid the inevitible circus that ensues.
Shame. |
Cool! One-of-a-kind!

I'm not however comfortable having them associated with a story about the car since I was not supposed to be discussing it and held up my end of the bargain in the first place and I certainly don't want it implied that I had anything to do with your discovery of the information or the making of it public. |
Now that the world knows whose car this is, I wonder how long Mr. Franchitti will own this unique, possible one of a kind Indy pace car originally owned by a famous driver. Will he flip it for a nice profit or will it end up in his collection?

I certainly meant no disrespect and have removed your photos from our post. Our only intention was to show off a unique Corvette created for a famous race car driver. Keith |
Dario must have been there because the car is gone....:(

Keith A number of mistakes were made in this mess and as I see it these don't for the most part include you. It would have been easy for you to simply leave the bell "rung" so to speak in interest of the scoop and leave the photos and post up on your site until the dust settled and the thread faded away. I know others in your position that would have done just that. My intention in adding the photos to this thread was the same, showcasing a unique Corvette which had all ready been spotted and viewable in person as well as via the webcams. I had however been asked not to discuss or publicize the origin or plan for the car and I was intent on honoring that request. I have a unique opportunity to be exposed to a lot of information and I deeply respect and honor that privilege and trust. In any event, thanks. Paul  |
