Over the top?

2 Attachment(s)
So my wife (and just about everyone else that sees my garage), thinks I am over the top with the orange cones and barriers protecting my girl. I told them I was going to post some pics on the forum and see what the members consensus is. I am sure from reading this forum for some time that there will be good deal of agreement and a good deal of "it's only a car", although my belief is the former will prevail! Hopefully I will have some ammo to use next time my wife things I'm crazy and "love my car more than her" lol. Thanks for the input.

4SUMERZ 11-29-2012 11:05 AM

OK, the car is very well protected, but I'd have to agree with your better half that this is going way overboard. :D

mcandrew67 11-29-2012 11:09 AM

No you're not crazy....... you're F***ing crazy:D

LFZ 11-29-2012 11:12 AM

Its in the garage...what are you protecting it from?

scapegoat 11-29-2012 11:13 AM

way over. I'll have to take a picture of my garage. i've a couple inches clearance on either side of the vette pulling in, once its mostly in i turn the wheel to angle it so i can skirt past the panel saw that is being stored, so i can open the door enough to get out.

NaplesDoc427 11-29-2012 11:13 AM

Thanks! LMAO, so far I'm not doing too well!

Homer3D 11-29-2012 11:14 AM

I agree with your wife. That is way over the top.

dvilin 11-29-2012 11:17 AM

You have lost it pal, that is way over the top, plus it looks like crap.

LMB-Z 11-29-2012 11:20 AM

What/who are you protecting it from? What happens when you drive it and other cars get close? Are you afraid someone is going to go out there and do something to it while it is parked in your garage? Its a Chevrolet.

4SUMERZ 11-29-2012 11:22 AM

I just noticed, that you are protecting it from everything but airborne contaminants. :ack:

My feelings exactly!

Sneed 11-29-2012 11:24 AM

There seems to be an "unprotected area" in the back. A couple of road guards with flags will close that right up.

mcandrew67 11-29-2012 11:28 AM

well you are 0 for 11, give it up Wife 1 Hubby 0

twinarrow99 11-29-2012 11:28 AM

Your first name would not be Beldar, by chance? As a fellow OCD car care guy, this is hilarious!

:iagree: now man up and go remove that stuff :toetap:

JLMounce 11-29-2012 11:29 AM

I see that as a bunch of potential projectiles aimed at your car! If somebody where to be leaning over to take a closer look, they may fall and send all those cones, barrier wall and pole in the direction of your car.

If it's in the garage I think a simple sign on the windshield that says look but don't touch is probably adequate.

I'm gonna go with overboard.

EuroRod 11-29-2012 11:32 AM

It really depends who is parking next to you. My wife uses the braile method for parking. My car goes on the rack and is raised 3 feet every time it goes into the garage, which is where it lives.

Kvothe 11-29-2012 11:37 AM

:lolg:

:spit:

Nothing wrong with being protective but that is taking it a little too far. The cones even look new....don't tell me you went out and bought all those just for this occasion.

SLAZ06 11-29-2012 11:40 AM

It all depends on the traffic in your garage. Are kids going in n out? Is there another driver that might park too close and hit it opening a car door? And finally your financial position. If it was a strech to buy the vet and maybe your only new one ever, no you are not over the top. If none of the above conditions apply your are OCDC.

Front page of the News tomorrow.....
Corvette Owner Arrested! For stealing road work cones... The Corvette Globe reports, Corvette owner, NaplesDoc427 decided to steal the road work cones in order to protect his Corvette in his personal garage. His wife commented that "He is crazy, and he is more in love with his car than with me"
NaplesDoc427 says his wifes driving and parking ablilities is the cause of his mental breakdown.
The DOT say they will not press charges if the cones are returned unharmed to the job site:D

redrckt97 11-29-2012 11:57 AM

why not just lock the garage??

scars10 11-29-2012 11:59 AM

It may be a little over the top but my wife might like it better than me saying, "Be careful getting out" every time we return home in her car.:D

Not quite enough protection What you really need to get is a

HAZMAT COVER

I can't believe you are letting all those germs, spores, pollen particles
and God forbid(Allah) sperm, snot, fecal particles come in contact with your precious beauty...........Ed

dpigguy 11-29-2012 02:18 PM

I'm with the too much group. All that protection and yet the hood is left open? Makes it easy for those critters to nest in the engine bay since you obviously don't drive it with all the unprotected areas outside the garage!!!

Homer3D 11-29-2012 02:20 PM

I was assuming the hood is left open for the battery tender cable. My corvette's hood is left like that for weeks when hooked up the battery tender.

etaylor14 11-29-2012 02:24 PM

I agree with your wife also!!! Do you take the cones with you when you drive it?

Never-Enough 11-29-2012 03:10 PM

Too over the top. May as well not even drive it.
Waste of garage space too.

Daekwan06 11-29-2012 03:14 PM

I hope this is a joke. But just in case the OP is serious, what would those cones even protect your car from?

I say get a satin stretched indoor only cover, put it over the car and be done with it. Its cheap, its protective and it's sexy. Pretty much the opposite of the solution you are using now.

http://www.southerncarparts.com/form...er-p-2903.html

Vetteman Jack 11-29-2012 03:14 PM

As much as I try to protect my car from any damage, I don't think I would go as far as you did. Have to side with your wife on this one.

schmegeggie 11-29-2012 03:35 PM

I gotta go with you on this one. However, why cones? They aren't protecting the car from anything! YOu need to drive it onto a 9' 4 post lift, cover it, and raise it up!
Now that's protection!

PARANORMAL 11-29-2012 03:39 PM

:crazy2:

BLK08C6 11-29-2012 03:43 PM

You do definitely have enough cones. I wouldn't worry about it. I've been told for many years that I'm over the top with how clean I keep my cars. Oh well..

LMB-Z 11-29-2012 04:30 PM

40-1...I think we have a winner. Sell the cones, or as Mcandrew said, take them back to the local highway dept, and take your wife out to eat...but not in the Vette...you may have to park near someone. :D

Flh Den 11-29-2012 04:40 PM

Now if your wife comes home drunk and staggering quite frequently I could see a couple of cones, but if thats not the case then you need to come home staggering once in a while. Wow I don't feel anal anymore.

Thomasmoto 11-29-2012 04:49 PM

Wow, I set myself for this beating I guess :) ! I should have mentioned that this began when my 12 year old son decided to "park" his bike and skateboard right next to my car, so being the OCD person that I am, I took it to the extreme and bought (no, funny though it was, I did not steal them from the highway dept.) all these cones and put up the barrier. The one in the front of the car is because the recycling barrel is in front of the car and everyone likes to throw (and miss) bottles in to it so in case of a stray projectile I'm covered. And no, this is not my first new car (I've had more than I can count), and no, it wasn't a stretch to buy it. Maybe it's an only child thing, I don't like people messin with my stuff lol. In any case, I'm glad I didn't tell my wife about this post yet cause it looks like I am losing big time. Thanks for all the comments in any case, I got a good laugh at my own expense!

:iagree:

Go to a "Feed Store" or a "Tractor Supply" store and get an electrified wire to surround the car and lay it across the top of the cones.

Whoever accidentially touches that wire and tries to cross that barrier will only do it once. ZAP! :D

I say address the core problem, not band aid it with cones. If any kid (person) is ok throwing bottles in a recycling bin a few feet from your $85k + car you've got bigger issues that will get worse over time. I don't don't have kids but someone's azz is getting whooped if bikes, skateboards, surf boards, bottles, etc get knocked into a car due to blatant carelessness. OK, I'm done now. Wow, I just got worked up:ack:
