Actually, The new tail light location and faceted looks not only reminds me of some Lambo details but also is quite close to the Cadillac CTS-V Coupe brake light. Which is not bad. In fact I quite like it on the Vette.

sportcruiser 07-13-2012 01:41 PM

I think it looks great, but would have to see it in person to see if I like the looks better than the C6. To me though, the big question is how it feels from the drivers seat.

Racer X 07-13-2012 02:05 PM

So the C7 looks like a Ferri, that looked like a C6. And it looks like a Lamborghini that took styling cues from Cadillac (Art & Science). Do I have this correct?

And the back looks like a Camaro? Well I was driving behind a new Camaro yesterday for quite a while. The taillight shapes are not rectangles, and the light is a half circle. So with half circle lights means it looks half like a Corvette. So really the Jalopnik renderings really draw their styling from a Corvette not a Camaro.

Also a rendering is not real life. A rendering of Farrah Fawcett in her prime, pales by comparison to seeing her in the flesh.

2d and 3d are not the same and never will be. You lose a lot of subtleties. The beauty is in the details and the flows from one surface to the next.

By the way the Jalopnik renderings got the emblem wrong on the tail. More evidence of not getting details right.

I have faith in the Corvette team.

i agree that the new c-7 rendering looks a lot like the ferrari 599. if you notice lots of performance cars today look similar and i think its a result of all the aerodynamic (i.e. wind tunnel) studies. all manufacturers are looking for every advantage and these advantages are universal. you cant cheat physics. pretty soon the only difference in our toys will be color only. my favorite is torch red.

I've always had faith in Corvettes design team. Most on this forum don't seem to though.

:iagree: It may seem that way, but the information is very incomplete at this point. The problem is what little is already known.

Maybe it's the Ferrari Red, but I do like this modded Jalopnik rendition of the base C7. Maybe change the side coves a little too. Best part is it doesn't show the the rear :ack: facia.:flag:

Doubt it. The science of Aerodynamics is not a primary consideration with cars. With airliners and military a/c, of course it is.

There will always be a diversity of styling with passenger cars. What would be the average lifetime speed of a typical Corvette? (I mean one that actually gets driven). Probably 35 MPH, or something like that.

Styling creates the major "Gotta have it" factor.

I'm not getting that feeling with the C7, so far as we know about it.

But it has to be reasonably aerodynamicly stable at its advertised top speed or they would be sued into oblivion. At 200 mph you had BETTER have incorporated serious aerodynamic properties considering a 4x4 will get airborne at that speed.

I would not be disappointed if it looked a lot like that. I still think there will be smaller LED tail lights and rectangular backup lights in the rear tail light bucket assembly.

IMO, the 599 GTO is the most beautiful Ferrari ever produced and one of the best-looking cars ever made!! So, if the Corvette uses it for inspiration I don't think it's a bad idea.

I had a half hour to just stare at one up close at the car audio shop. While it's nice to know even Ferraris can have panel gap and orange peel inconsistencies, the lines and curves and shapes and proportions are so damn good-looking I couldn't stop staring.

Some bits of the GTO are overdone and the "plain" 599 is prettier overall, but both versions of the car are visually arresting, in a good way.

I want to say I agree as well, but it started off eerily similar to the c6. Minus the vents and stick ons that made it stand out(for better or for worse) now it REALLY looks like a c6 with different a redesigned hatch area. That right there isn't enough to create a sales increase to me. Then again, Porsche and BMW have done far more(consistent sales) with far less(changes)

Very true, it's been proven by them that subtle styling changes/updates on entirely new model year cars can work. And this is why I don't understand why so many people are up in arms :willy: and crying :cry about how the C7 might look similar to the C6.
I assume that these same people would never ever consider buying a Porsche 911 or a BMW 3 series, or even a pick up truck LOL. :D

How many basic shapes for sleek sports cars do you think there are?

To your question, they look distinct enough to me.

Yes, this is true. Probably the main reason why some cars have speed limiters.

Good point.

And the other points made in this thread are well taken.

BTW, why don't I see big tacky reflectors on the side of the Ferrari? Why do we have to be so safety-vesty?
