If I was in the 1% and wanted a fun and really fast new car, I would buy a ZR1.

If I was more concerned with letting everyone else know I was in the so called 1%, I would get the Ferrari.

I think Vettes are a terrific value. It's too bad that they are about 90% overkill when it comes to power and speed!!!! :willy:

That's what this country is all about (and something that can't be done in a lot of nations on the planet where life is brutish and short).

And we think F cars and Vettes are both hot.

Unfortunately, too many people spend money as if they already are 1%ers. Then they wonder why they drown in a sea of debt.

Hers is what I heard. Corvette is a fun car to drive, performs at near race car levels but lacks the fine attention to detail of 'super-cars' or even the latest Cadillacs in comparing interiors.

Well, they are right and right again. I pin some of that on GM's best effort at cost containment on the Vette. Kudos to the engineers for their performance advancements. I'll bet it's damn difficult with the bean counters breathing down their necks

I pin some of that on GM trying to make the Corvette all things to all people - a couple, a convertible, a gs coupe, a grand sport convertible, a 427 convertible, a Z06, a ZR1 and throw in the occasional special special package offerings. That's a base price range of $50,000 to $112,000 or 124% spread. You don't see Ferrari offering 7 or 8 models of the 458 with base prices of say $250,000 to $550,000. I'd wager GM trying to satisfy the coupe buyer with enough content at $50,000 is one difficult proposition with the cost of engineering they have put into the entire product line. Then you have the ZR1 buyer who at half the cost of a base, base Ferrari 458 wants to compare their car to the prancing horse. I have heard it said many many times, you get what you pay for - so why are we or anyone else grumbling that the Z car doesn't match up detail to detail with the high ticket super-cars.

Can the Vette be better - I think so. Will the C7 showcase significant improvements, again I think so. Just be careful what you wish for, fine attention to detail COSTS !!!

:seeya

Excellent post!!!

Every time I see a story comparing a Corvette to a Ferriri, and there are so many of those stories, I *feel* like the 1%. The fact that a Vette is compared to Ferrari just shows the value you're getting in th Vette.

Yeah, and now you know how Mustang owners feel about having their car compared to the Corvette ;)

BTW, can I sell you a vowel?

You're right about that! Every time we pass a Mustang my wife says, "There goes another car owner that wishes they had a Corvette".
.
And, can I buy two? An "a" and an "e"?:D

Funny. Thought I do not agree, my neighbor says "Corvettes are like A**holes...everyone has got one" - and he owns one.

In Post 13 it briefly mentions stitching. That reminds me, I think to get contrasting stitching on the Corvette, I think you have to go to the 4LT and then there has been an additional charge of 300 or $400. I dont know why there is an additional charge as stitching is stitching. Its all programmed into the computer. My 2012 Equinox has a contrasting stitching and its not listed anywhere as far as an extra charge. Chevrolet, WHY??? ...

I think marketing figured this would be a good profit center - they still owe the taxpayer a lot of money.

OP don't say 1% or 99% around here. You have a bunch of people here who are desperate to pretend they are part of the 1% and get outraged at the very mention of such.

:iagree:

Please...I know some, I am, I want to be, I was, my parents are....:ack:

:iagree: Conspicuous consumption.

The C6Z06 w/ Z07 package is about the fastest production car on a racetrack & it's roughly half the price of the world class supercars in it's performance category. The rest of the world just hasn't figured it out yet;

http://www.motortrend.com/features/p...r/viewall.html

I'm thrilled my '12 GS (1LT, 6Spd, NPP) & for the hell of it I'll compare specs to a Ferrari F430;
Price; $200K - GS $50k
Engine; 4.3L V8 - GS 6.2L V8
HP/TQ; 483 hp, 343 tq - GS 436 HP, 428 Tq
Trans; 6spd or F1 - GS 6spd or auto
Wheelbase; 102.4 in - GS 105.7
Length; 177.6 in - GS 175.6
Width; 75.7 in - GS 75.9
Height; 47.8 in - GS 48.7
Weight; 3,197 lb - GS 3,200 lb (if they're gonna use 'dry' weight, so am I)

Granted the fit/finish of the latest European & Japanese exotics are exemplary, but I think people are paying a LOT more than they should. I enjoy watching American C5 & C6 Z06's surpass or run with the fastest cars in the world.

The Corvette is a stunning car. I think its come a long way since it humble beginnings and close death in the 50s. Although my friends and customers have Ferraris,Porsches and Lamborghinis they adore my little base model Corvette. My friend James has a 360 and had a go in mine with corsa sports. He told me he couldn't believe how responsive my a6 was and now has 2013 on order in torch red. The corvettte is every bit of a Ferrari so much the two cars share parts I know I fix both.

So if I understand Bloomberg is comparing a $50K to $120K Corvette to a $250K to whatever K Prancing Horse. This argument will go on forever.

I think it's kinda nice that the "cheesy Corvette" is compared to "F" car.

We get nearly the same go go for 25% of the price. So what's that you were saying about the seats?

Hah! Good point . . . Gotta keep some perspective here . . .

And yet, GM can do even better, without much of a bump in price.

c54u 06-08-2012 04:33 PM

first of all, show me a new 50k Ferrari....i am waiting.....thought so. :toetap:

why do they want to compare two cars when one of them costs 5 times as much. most people who buy these ridiculously expensive cars that are a fortune to maintain can afford it, and it is a status symbol.

Corvette wins over and over and over and over and over against anything in its price range.

they better all grow up and compare dollar to dollar. play fair.
