Value of a 78 Pace Car

Can anybody help with the value of a 78 Pace car. I have been looking at one with 58,000 miles in relatively good shape. They are asking $18,000. What is the value for Pace cars these days?

The value depends on options, mileage, and condition. The values are all over the place. Top dollar has been going to low mileage L82 four speed cars. L82 autos next and then L48 four speeds. L48 autos are the bargain cars.

How is it optioned? Are we talking L-48, L-82, auto, 4-speed, etc... These will all play a factor in the price.

IMO, if the 78 Pace car is a nice driver then I would put it's value along the lines of any other 78 Corvette (maybe an extra 1K for the Pace Car package); after all, they made slightly over 6500 of these cars. Lately I've seen some of these priced in the stratosphere, but to me the car is not worth a high premium!!

Assuming its dry underneath with no major mechanical issues, I think you could pick one up for $14-16 in this economy. If you have to put a few thousand into it...suddenly you have a $21k, "high-mileage" Pace Car.

Given the above info , $18,000 is far too high for this car I.M.O.

Google pace cars for sale and you will probably kick up representative values.

Just the same, asking prices and actual selling prices are often not the same.

:iagree: unless you have documentation on the mileage, i would automatically presume it to be at least the second time around for the odometer. $18 even if it is original on an L48 automatic is out of wack. the majority of the "mint" auction pace cars at B-J or Mecham have trouble getting much over 20k for the base L48 automatics.

i wouldn't pay more than 14 for one now unless you could be assured you wouldn't have to put a nickel in it for a long while and you could use it dependably right away. check out that big auction site (ebay) and see what they are asking and then see how many actually sell (i'll bet it's at or near zero). i bought mine 6 years ago needing a lot of work (as i was to discover, lol) and paid 11k for it. i used it in the as bought condition for almost 2 years before beginning on a reconstruction. the car is actually done (as of today) and will be back in my garage tomorrow evening for the first time in almost 4 years!!
