Best Carpet? Loop or Pile?

I'm almost to that point where I need to order my replacement carpet.

And I'm hearing Al Knoch or Ecklers as highly recommended vendors (open to other suggestions), but what I'm also questioning is 80-20 loop or plush cut-pile.

I know there are a number of you folks who've already done this, and I'm wondering how satisfied you are with the loop or the pile???

Loopor Pile... SOunds like Gomer's cousin.

I bought original style loop for my 69...after installing it, I wish I had gone with the pile...it just looks better.

Ironcross 03-14-2012 02:26 PM

Personal choice, Knoch can make it any way you want for any year because he makes them, where I believe Ecklers dont ......

Just received my replacement carpet from Corvette America. My car only came with the cut pile but I think it looks better than the loop. That's probably why it only came with deluxe interiors.

Loop came with standard interiors. Plush cut came with the optional custom interior package.

Choice is up to you.

"Loop" pile for the base model interiors; "cut" pile for the deluxe interior package. Cut-pile carpet is the same as "loop" pile carpet...except the very top of the loops are cut off.

Loop pile wears better; cut pile carpet can be cleaned easier. If you don't care that the 'correct' type of carpet is reinstalled in your car, pick the one you prefer.

i feel really stupid right now i have no clue what you guys are talking about

It's the way it's weaved, looped through the backing material or fabric.

The top of the loop is cut off, hence, "cut pile".

Almost all carpet is woven in a loop. Plush cut only means that the tops of the loops in loop carpet are cut. You can see the loops in loop carpet. Plush cut looks fuzzy instead of loopy.
:D

Guys ,i thought in 68 and 69 vettes only came with loop pile ,also if you look up carpet for a 69 it only says loop. So did 68 and 69 come with cut pile?

Hi,
Here's a close-up of original 80/20 'loop' pile carpet.
I think 80/20 refers to the materials it's made from (?), nylon+?
Regards,
Alan

At first the custom interior's cut pile was only available in black and saddle.

I think it's rayon(80) and nylon(20), but I didn't even stay in a holiday inn last night so......

I like loop. It looks more Old School. I have it on my deluxe interior car with matching loop door inserts.

Does anybody know the answer to my question above, for i donot know.I have looked into ordering carpet for my car and i like cut pile better, but the venders advertise that loop pile is the only choice for a 69.I know you can fit other years,i was just wondering why just loop pile

The 1969 did not have a custom interior trim option: cut pile carpet.

The first cars to have cut pile carpet were the 1970 cars with deluxe interior. 1968-1969 cars were all looped carpet from the factory.

The 80/20 did stand for the percentage of materials and yes they were rayon and nylon.

Thanks guys... I'm leaning toward old school loop but I'm weird like that... If you don't believe me check my seats link. Just weird.

dbeall1968 03-14-2012 08:56 PM

I am currently installing my loop carpet from Wilcox. The back is in, and I laid in the passenger side to see how it fit- IT FITS PERFECTLY!!!:woohoo:
I ran out of glue, so after work tomorrow I will pick up more, I should have it in in a few more hours. I took the time tonight to remove, sandblast, and re-paint the seat and seatbelt bolts. I used the hot bolt trick to make my bolt holes in the carpet. It worked great.
