Fuel pump replacement 85
 

Whats a reasonable price to have a shop replace the fuel pump in my 85.Thanks

don't know what a shop would charge ,but its a pretty easy do it youself.simple tools not difficult at all. if you don't have a fsm a chilton or any other will guide you through it, and you can spend all day in the garage and sh'll think you worked your but off.:willy::rofl:

the fuel pump went belly up in my 85 on a trip about 7-8 years ago, and i had to have the car flat bedded to a local chevy dealer for repair. seems to me they charged me about $240, parts and labor. hated to it, but i was better than 100 miles from home. my son just replaced his, and parts was around $60 and about 1 hour labor...

Changed mine on my '94 pump was $80 and took less than an hour. Just remove your fill door (4 screws) remove the rubber boot disconnect the hoses and the dozen bolts and remove the unit. I would rather change the fuel pump than change the fuel filter!!

No reason for anyone not to do there own fuel pump. I would rate it as difficult as changing spark plugs.. Wilbro makes a nice kit that has a new gasket , new bolts, plus a full set of instructions ..About 1 hour...:thumbs:..WW

I have a pump for sale if you buy it I will walk you through the install. Its very easy. It took me about 15 minutes to replace mine.

Ain't that the truth!!! Nothing like being soaked in premium gasoline running down your arm, while you attempt to start the fuel filter fittings in the 'conveniently' located area that Chevrolet decided to put the late C4 fuel filter at...

You won't even get the second beer finished. 30 minute job. Do it yourself. Get a pump from Pep Girls, a basic socket set, a phillips screwdriver, and you're ready. If you hit a snag (which you won't) give us a shout and we will walk you through it. :cheers:

Thanks for all your sugestions. As for dong it myself, I have a REALLY bad back so all I can do is take this Vette to a shop. Now for those who say "if you can't fix it your self you shouldn't own a C4" I agree. But its not about money. When I was 25 I owned a C2 and when I was 30 I owned a C3. Not to mention I have raced Unlimited Hydro's and was a Pilot in the AF. Also owned a chain of equipment rental stores so I am mechanicaly inclined. Now that I'm 65 I plan on driving this C4 into the sunset and how sweet it is.

If you have a shop stool or bar stool you can do this sitting down. Everything is done at the filler door level.

The only thing that wasn't said is disconnect the battery before you start. I know you disconnect the plug before you take the holder out of the tank, but I am a wuss and not willing to take the chance.

Also get some type of pan to put the assembly into to keep from dripping gas on the car.

Good luck and I do understand the bad back. Just look at the floor and get out the drugs. :woohoo:
