Halltech ZR1 Style Carbon Fiber Roof/Halo

Blackdog Racing in Lincolnshire IL installed our first ZR1 roof and halo yesterday, they are ready to do this for any of our customers.

I will have pictures in the next few days, but these are the pictures from a few weeks ago, along with the weight savings. We will also have the A-Pillar carbon fiber pieces available as well.

We also have a company in NH that is installing one for a customer, and they are also able to do the roof removal, Mg frame preparation and bonding. They make the F22 Raptor composite parts, so the procedure will be perfect. Waiting for pricing as well.

We suspect that most high end shops could handle this R&R, but the bonding agent requires oven curing which some shops may not be able to handle. Forget GM dealers.

We are ready to start filling orders now, and will have the total R&R cost for those wanting to have the roof done professionally next week.

Pricing is $1999.99 plus shipping for both the ZR1 roof and halo. Order the Halltech GT2 hood at the same time and we will deduct $100 from the order. Order Katech's deck/Lexan window and you will save over 61 lbs and lower the center of gravity significantly.

Beautiful looking pieces, Jersey. Seems like a fair price at $2,000 for both. The question is who would install them and at what cost?

Bruce in Arizona

Would love to know more about the installation/bonding process.

Have any contacts in the California Bay Area that can handle it?

You will be able to ship your roof to us and get the new ZR1 Halltech roof back. We'll have a price for that soon.

Any dealer can replace the roof/pillar. It is pretty easy and straight forward. Our dealer does the R&R for $400.

We'll have the details on the procedure soon. Right now, you could ship your roof to Blackdog Racing, and they could R&R the top with our carbon fiber piece. The halo would be shipped directly to you from our shop. Turn around would be probably 3 days.

We are getting pricing from a second company as well.

The biggest issue is cleaning the magnesium frame and prepping the carbon fiber roof for bonding. We use Hysol dry film that has to be heated in an oven for adhesion.

What type of guarantee are you offering given the proclivity of the resin to fade and crack?

Would like to know also how this handles the weather climates compared to the OEM ZR1 roof and bow.:toetap:

The resin will not fade nor crack. 1 year warranty on that. It does have some UV protection, but if you are looking to have your car sit out in the sun all day for the Summer, I recommend keeping it stock and cover it. The paint will fade in time.

If you are interested in a top for climate change, keep it stock. This setup is for the enthusiast looking for the weight loss and look for 1/3rd the cost of the GM counterparts.

Retail on the ZR1 roof/halo are over $6000 and they weigh 3 lbs more than our parts. 14.4lbs lighter than the Z06 counterparts.

Jim,

I have purchased some amazing pieces from you in Carbon Fiber - this past summer, the black ZR1 hood you used for a mold is on my Z06. I live in Phoenix and the summer sun is hot. I garage my car, but use it as a daily driver. I am inferring from your comments on weather, that the Phoenix sun would do damage to your CF top and halo? Is this your conclusion, please let me know your thoughts? Thanks. (Sorry, in an earlier post, I addressed you as Jersey. I was thinking of Apsis by mistake)

Interested as well as I am in Florida Jim. Have your DRED hood and would like to do the roof and halo but need to know it will hold up for my daily driver.

Carbon is finicky. I put on APSIS CF side splitters and Mirrors and they look like new. Put on a Katech CF front splitter and after a year it looked dull and in need of clear coating.

Amol 02-18-2012 12:38 PM

Do you just sell the Halo?

Yes we do. We can make those and ship. No fooling around, and we have the replacable GM seal that you will need as well. It is 1.37 lbs vs. almost 6.46 lbs.

How much are they and where can I order one?
Thanks

We can do the roof in the same clear gel coat as your hood. The Pre-Preg carbon is what we initially wanted to do for these roofs, which is glossy and stays glossy for ever if taken care of, but the clear gel coat would never need refinishing. Gel coat is the finish finish on boats and airplanes.

What would be the cost of that then? Definitely want to be sure it holds up down here. Thanks.

Should be close to the same price. I'll get it quoted Monday.

Thanks,
