Bottom line I got rid of my porsche 911s because every frickin vette I ran into smoked my ass....now a 911 turbo s is a different story but alot of cash..

You made the right choice! :cheers:

Hope you can tolerate the sh!tmuckle seats :rofl:

The only Vette to "ever" do that, is the ZR1, and just barely. And it has to use forced injection.
.

I have no doubt that the Porsche is a fine car, but there is another side to the HP/L discussion.

HP/L is a completely worthless metric. It's no secret that engines with 4 valves per cylinder make more HP than an engine of the same displacement having 2 valves per cylinder. However, the DOHC engine takes up much more room under the hood. A 4.6L DOHC V8 takes up more room and weighs more than a 7.0L pushrod V8 engine.

What is the advantage if the DOHC engine weighs more, takes up more room under the hood, costs more to build and has an inferior BSFC?

The HP/L fans always brag about their engines that rev to the moon. I wonder how many of then understand the basic equation for HP:

HP = TQ X RPM/5252

The smaller displacement engine HAS TO REV HIGHER to keep up with the larger displacement engine because they do not make any torque. And torque is one of the most important factors in what makes a performance car fun to drive.

Racer was criticized by a couple of P-Car and Beamer fanboys. That is a far cry from being criticized by "a number of members in this thread".

He is a Corvette fan, like most of us here.

Now if he went onto a BMW or P-Car Forum and told them their cars had weak engines for the price.....on those boards, he would be a

i could not read through all of this, but I remember C&D used to love to compare cheap American cars to expensive competitive Euro cars, and tweaked the Euros for underperforming and overcharging. They would, of course, always admit that you get what you pay for in terms of fit, finish, high-quality materials, etc.

And so it goes. If MT compared a BMW 3-series to a Hyundai Genesis Coupe, I suspect the same outcome would hold as the GS - 911S comparo. And the Genesis owners would rightly wonder why anyone would compare the $40K vehicle to the $25K vehicle. Well, just to show what you do get for your extra $15K. From the perspective of the Genesis buyer, the extra $15K is just not worth it.

BTW, we should agree looks are subjective and not get uptight about that. Back in the 70's I loved the simple and purposeful look of the 911 and thought the C3 was an absolute joke of lumps, bumps and scoops. Well, that was my opinion. To an extent still is. But, I drive a C5 (perhaps the cleanest-looking Vette IMHO since the '55) largely because the competive used Porsche would have cost 50% more to own and 100% more to maintain --- and the similarly priced used Porsche would have been slow and beat instead of fast and clean.

I still like the looks of the '64 911 a tiny bit more than the C2 Vette and a lot more than the C3. Don't shoot me; it really doesn't matter what I like except to me and my wife.

I've driven a C6 and can't say I felt like I was sitting ON the seat. I remember sitting IN a very nice seat. I have rode in a 996 and I did feel like I was sitting ON that hard uncomfortable pos seat. Never been in a 997 yet.
