My 58 Corvette pics

As requested a few pics of the 58 Corvette. Will need to total resto and has a 350 which will need to be swapped over for a 283. Not sure what the 350 is from.

Wow, that's going to be one expensive restoration! There's hardly anything original that's salvageable on the whole car. Too bad the trunk irons are missing as well.......$$$

outlaw67 01-17-2012 06:43 AM

and the fun begins, love the 58 hoods , good luck

Looking Good! Keep us posted on the progress.

Is that black badge on the back original (maybe for overseas sales)? Don't recall seeing that before.
When will you start?
Keep us updated during the resto!

Wow, that car's going to keep you busy for a while. Have fun!

It looks to be the stock emblem, but without the chrome bezel installed and a black 62 backing plate, in place of the brushed stainless 58-61 part.

Luv the '58's. Thx for posting.

Very cool!

Are your plans to make it back original, or a driver which is not 100% pure but fun to drive? (NOT implying a 100% original is not fun to drive also). There is no right or wrong, it's whichever way you feel like doing it. Either way there are guys here who have done the same, so don't be afraid to ask questions when you hit a snag!

Have fun with the restoration. Do you have the trunk spears? Looks like shag carpet. Probably a 70's add on. Keep the pics coming as you progress

:iagree: If your plan is to end up with a mostly original car, this is probably not the right candidate. Being a transitional year, '58 parts can be quirky, just to figure out what the correct part is. Expensive too (trunk irons for example).

But if your end goal is a "budget driver", then that may be realistic.

Anyway, I sure admire your courage!

BTW: what the heck happened to that deck panel? Never seen one so distorted.

INMYBLOOD 01-17-2012 09:59 AM

Mine were on the car but they are pitted. Yes tell us the story of how you got it.

Thanx for posting the pix.

Been there and done it - don't envy you - but know you'll do a GREAT job.

Its worth it all when its done.

That's a worthy project. You'll do well

Congrats from another '58 owner.

Where did you find it?

I liked the picture composition of the 3rd pic down.

Just noticed the cool fringe on the seat.

I can't believe someone filled in the original emblem half globe thingie to do this to the front.

Instead of this. But to tell you the truth I missed seeing it for quite awhile.

Same question I had, you can get a lot more car for a lot less money for a driver, particularly with a 58. Restoration $$$ can go through the roof the closer you get to "original". Good luck with whatever path you take.

Wow! Looks like quite a restore job ahead. Be interested in the costs as you move forward.

Good luck.

C6Matt 01-17-2012 02:45 PM

Yeah it does depend if you want 'original' parts or will settle for repro items.

Here's a page for some New Old Stock.

The OP has stated doing a total resto so it may work out better to restore this one than to pay for a much more expensive one and totally restore that, could be a case of 'what you lose on the swings you gain on the roundabouts'.

Nut and bolt restorations aren't cheap regardless.
