Bad Virus from a link
Well I hope I am posting in the right place, I got a bad virus from the forum wednesday. It attacked my system and started in the windows explorer killing the computers operating system my computer has all the latest virus protection. I having my whole computer operating system reinstalled I lucky did not lose all my data. So I was searching about battery tenders and which ones were the best to use. So I read on different ones members are using checking links of ones to buy and I clicked on someone link it came up with link not working message so I close it and then a few minutes my computer goes crazy I unplug it and call my IT guy about it. So the owners of this site may need to check into someone posting fake links.

It's possible that a member posted a link to a legit website that was compromised (i.e., the link for the website may have had a security breach), or it is possible the member posted a bad link.
Unfortunately, without knowing the exact post and link, it's very difficult to investigate because if it was an external link, unless the link is a known link, it will be almost impossible to find as there is no way to search external links for the content they have. I would suggest some security software, make sure your browser is updated, and even think about FireFox or Chrome browsers. Chrome browser has a "sandbox" feature which makes it more difficult for a website to do damage to the computer. Unfortunately, stuff like this is pretty much needed on the Internet. |
