2012 Corvette Lear Car2U garage door/security gate setup

I just picked up my new 2012 corvette GS Convertible last week and as everyone does after picking up their new ride, we setup all the internal settings etc.

Well, everything has been awesome in the way adjustments and setting have gone with he exception of the secondary remote setting in the "Homelink remote" setup process. I got the first garage door remote setup perfectly the first time. But, the second homelink button setup for the remote which controls our small neighborhood security gate system is not working.

Yes, I've read the vette user manual, viewed YouTube videos on he subject and have gotten nothing but mixed inconsistant instructions on this technique.

Thoughts?

Thank You!

Seems quite a few folks have difficulty with security gate setup.

Here's from the Lear Car2U website on gates:

http://www.learcar2u.com/program/gate/

And an old thread that may be some help:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...378-car2u.html

You might end up having to call them tomorrow. :)

The opener is not Homelink in the 2012, it's the Car2U system made by Lear. I couldn't get it to work with my opener (make is Linear), but I foudn on the website that Rick T mentions above that I needed to order the conversion module. Don't have it yet, so I don't know if that will really solve the problem.

They call it a "universal" remote system, but apparently it's not as universal as the name would suggest ...

Sws56,
Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention. I'll be sure to document this. Let us know if the converter helps. Thanks in advance.

I've had the same problem with my 2008 vette with Lear Car2U. I contacted Lear and was told by them that they would order a new visor, install an updated GEN II module in the visor and then send a technician out to install a receiver on my gate. Sounds like great service right? Not so much.

It's been 5 months and I haven't received anything. Lear responds to my inquiries by saying,

"The Door King receiver installed on the community gate is compatible with the updated GEN II Car2U module.

If we were to add a receiver to the gate, we would still need to send you an updated GEN II module to work with that receiver in order for the community to continue to track entry of the residents and continue to have the same level of security they currently have on the gate.

We have been in contact with the corporate office and they have been in contact with the manufacturer of the visors in Irvin. However, we unable to obtain a time frame when the manufacturer will complete and ship the visors.
Thank you for contacting us,
Lear Car2U Customer Service Center"

I contacted Chevrolet (Service Request: 71-1022434297 Customer Relationship Specialist: Sandee) and was advised that the visors are made by a third party vendor and there's nothing Chevrolet can do. Talk about run around?

Five months with no results is unacceptable. I have no problems with my Lexus Homelink and will consider this issue before buying any other vehicle with a Lear system in it.

This is very frustrating that as sophisticated as this amazing 2012 Corvette is, that a simple techno defect was overlooked and it's up to the customers and a form to figured it and fix it on our own accord.

JUST SAYING........

I got my C6 yesterday and had to program three remote. One was a semi-modern rolling code - no problem, simple. The second was a mid-90's Genie with the dip switches. I must have tried 10 times. No go. The third is a common gate and same deal. Maybe I can get the converter for my old Genie but I don't think it is going to go over big with the Homeowner Nazi's to change their system.

All I can say is that my other cars have the Gentex Homelink mirrors and it is a piece of cake and worked with every one - so long as you have the original remote. Only tricky part with the Gentex is you really have to program all the remotes at once. This Lear system is a real piece of Gooberment Motors crapulance.

I installed an actual Homelink visor in my '08 so as not to have to deal with the problems of the Lear. Obtained a visor for an '06, it was identical to my '08 except it came with the Homelink transmitter instead of the Car2U. It was a "plug and play" installation. No problems since.

Try calling Lear, I have friends who were helped by reps on the phone.

Wow, glad to see this thread. Thought I'd lost my touch trying to program gate. Garage door opener was easy.

Just PM'ed Doug for instructions. Gotta love the Corvette Forum for real solutions to simple issues.:thumbs::thumbs:

I had the same problem with the Lear unit in my car, one of my doors has a rolling code opener, no problem with setup. Other door has an opener that has a Broten opener, not rolling code or dip switches, Lear sent me a converter for that door that wires to the opener, also no problem. I live in a community that has gate operators, no go. Lear said that they could install at no charge a receiver unit on the community gates that would work, community said no. Lear then said they would send me a whole new visor with a transmitter that would work with the community gate, my response was great. Almost a year went by and one day it showed up in the mail, I replaced the visor, called Lear, they helped me program the new visor with the numbers from the inside of the gate clicker, worked perfectly.
Lear told me that most community gates will not work without them installing a part on the gate, or that failing a new Lear transmitter. Get at me if anyone needs more info.

Lear Remote

I sure would appreciate instuctions for the "work around" to the Lear Remote. Can't operate the community gate while in my 2009 Vette. Thanks in advance.

Security Gates

For all trying to get the Lear system to open your neighborhood security gate call Lear at 1-866-572-2728. Our gate has had the converter installed but still needed to sit in car and have Lear rep walk me through a lengthy button pushing protocol. It worked and gate now responds to my new GS. Let them tell you what to do, its easier than fighting with the car, gate, and those around you. Good luck!

Been waiting almost a year for the new visor from Lear. Still not received. Very disappointing customer no-service.

Yes seems to be a problem, I bought a 2011 Silverado in July, still no new unit. Rep says they are on back order.........

Homelink Setup

There should be a phone number for Homelink in your owner's manual. Give them a call. They were pretty helpful.

As stated above the 2012 is not Homelink, its a Lear systme. If it were Homelink there would not have been a problem.
