Drunk Driver Crashes Into New Corvettes at a Miami Chevy Dealership

Earlier this month, a drunk driver crashed into three Corvette Grand Sports sitting on the lot at Tropical Chevrolet in Miami Shores. The driver wasn't seriously injured but we can't say the same about the Grand Sports:

Wow the on GS looks totaled:eek:

Mach2 12-28-2011 01:05 PM

The white coupe next to it took some frag damage too. Think that'll rub out???

sublime1996525 12-28-2011 01:07 PM

That's one way to get rid of a few GS's.

phileaglesfan 12-28-2011 01:17 PM

Send the silver one to Wolfdogs, I'm sure he can work his magic with Zaino. (Yeah the car looks screwed).

Red one looks badly damaged in the other pics also. It will be interesting to see how these vehicles sell.

dvilin 12-28-2011 01:22 PM

California Duster, a bit of Zaino and all is good.:D

It's not like they're flying off the lots. Hell, the Dealer probably needs the insurance payout so much, he'll start sponsoring a local Happy Hour if sales keep dropping.

06 C6 vert 12-28-2011 04:52 PM

They will detail them both and have em back out on the lot soon.

:D

DonOH 12-28-2011 04:55 PM

Probably helped the dealer make quota this month.

Dave Dial 12-28-2011 05:20 PM

I am glad that no one was standing next to these cars and looking at them when that jerk ran off the road.

cmonkey713 12-28-2011 05:28 PM

Just goes to show you that alcohol and plastic don't mix. :toetap:

mcandrew67 12-28-2011 05:29 PM

Passed there frequently, never saw this on the news, :willy:
probably had no insurance either....

MONTVALEGOLF 12-28-2011 05:37 PM

Sad.

Yikes.

And that silver GS was (key word "was") a beauty.

OH THREE Z 12-28-2011 08:06 PM

The white GS is still showing available on tropicals website. If it is the same car that is in the picture it was in the same group of white cars that my Z06 was in during assembly..

Sad:flaghalfmast:

Z06LUST 12-28-2011 11:21 PM

How long before we get the thread:

Found a silver GS with a salvage title.
Does a salvage title harm resale value?
And what price should I pay for the Vette?

teenVette 12-29-2011 01:24 AM

Wow.

:flaghalfmast:

Jimmy W1 12-29-2011 02:06 AM

Anytime someone mentions drunk drivers, the first thing that comes to mind is the time I spent in Orlando about 20 years ago. I was watching the evening news and a man had 57 (fifty seven!!) drunk driver accidents/incidents and was still driver around with a license and got his 58th when I was there. So, drunk driving accidents in Florida never surprised me too much......

Bobbarker20 12-29-2011 06:45 AM

75% off as is no warranty lol

rob62 12-29-2011 08:43 AM

That vette would be fixed and sold as new if it weren't for the internet!!!

GM is probably happy for the opportunity to manufacture more. Not like it was a Z06 or anything;)

Monterey C6 12-29-2011 01:11 PM

If you look at the photo you can see a salesman showing the silver one to a lady. He is not letting her see the passinger side and telling her that it just need a good cleaning and as soon as she signes the papers they will get it right in and detail it for her.

SilverScorp 12-29-2011 01:14 PM

I'll take the 2012 steering wheel and padded console for $200.

bub 12-30-2011 11:43 PM

Why park Vettes back to the street if they had a similar incident 4 years ago?

Use those Sonics or whatever those econo-boxes are called these days just across the drive in the pic...

Granted the drunk is clearly the bonehead here, but why take that risk of it happening again with high $ inventory (sounds like it was SUV's that got clobbered last time in 2007 based on the article)?

screaminchevy 12-31-2011 10:05 PM

Whew, it's ok, it was just a grand sport! :hide:

99alvette 01-01-2012 04:56 PM

Marc V. 01-02-2012 12:55 AM

Worst part of the story is that the driver was not seriously injured.

Too bad more drunk drivers aren't killed in the accidents they cause and make our world a safer one for everyone else. :smash:

Wayne O 01-02-2012 09:58 AM

Damn that's tragic! Why couldn't the drunk have taken out a few Volts instead? They have to do something to move those P'sOS.

davidtcpa 01-02-2012 10:54 AM

Thankfully he only hit the Vettes and nobody was hurt. from the looks of it he must have been going pretty fast.

The one with the rear section chopped off will take alot more than a wash, wax and detail treatment!

Its depressing just by looking at the photo, this guy should get 50 years in prison! Not for destroying some property but for being stupid enough to get behind the wheel of a car while drinking!

:iagree: but it depends on his previous driving record and how good his lawyer is. He will do some time for sure and pay some pretty mind blowing fines for a long time.

I wonder if I can pick up the comp grey wheels. Profiteer?

Dale002 01-17-2012 06:03 PM

Unfortunately Alcohol is a very power drug and those whom can't control it,well this happens. Just cars and yes, the driver should be punished for it. However, the driver was very lucky no one was injured or killed,Including the driver.
One example of why I gave up drinking 18 years ago!

Spinmedic 01-17-2012 06:37 PM

can i start the bidding on a ls3 dry sump?

You are so right about the alcohol problems we face today. Unreal and a blessing these people did not kill anyone except for those gorgeous ZR1's,

Can this be classified as a terrorist act or just a disgruntled guy who couldn't get financed?

KibunInc 01-17-2012 11:19 PM

Back when I was an Officer (In Socal) we used to come across some serious traffic collisions. When we had stuff like this we used to look under the cars to make sure no one was under one the cars. The drunk drivers usually did not get hurt and many times by the time we would get to the scene, everyone would be pointing the direction that the driver was last seen running.

tinbender59 01-18-2012 12:21 AM

I am sorry people, but it is my opinion that anyone caught behind the wheel DUI, should be charged with a fellony, period!!! the next time it may be my family or myself. I have zero tollerance for this crap, have fun, party hardy, just don't drive!!!

PaulB 01-18-2012 06:42 AM

In regards to whats going to hapen to those wrecked Corvettes? I am guessing that the liability carrier of the responsible person is primary. If there is a problem there like maybe a Policy Limits situation and the dealership has to proceed under their own policy, I am guessing its the Floor Plan and those cars will be destroyed. I am also guessing that no parts will be sold for salvage as GM does not want any chance of a liability situation down the road. Just my 2 cents worth...

:iagree::iagree: Those cars are leased by the dealer to sit in their lot anyway. They were gone after a few days!
