The CATs are metalic core European 110 cell units, VERY free flowing and legal! As a matter of fact, during testing the difference between the CATted versus NonCATted systems were negligable;

Clearences are very good all around, the primary O2 sensors are fine;

Here is the process I followed to remove my stock exhaust. I just made some notes of what I did and put them together for any of you that may want some direction of how to get the stock exhaust off. This is what I did!

1.) Disconnect negative cable from battery.
2.) Remove Oil Fill cap and Fuel Rail Covers http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...a/DSC00030.jpg
3.) Remove spark plug wires from coil packs, simply pull out. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...a/DSC00031.jpg
4.) Having another buddy to tackle one side of the engine bay while you tackle the other is very beneficial/time saving if you can trust their work! http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...a/DSC00037.jpg
5.) Disconnect connection on both coil packs. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...a/DSC00034.jpg
6.) Remove bolts connecting coil pack brackets to valve covers (10mm) http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...a/DSC00035.jpg
7.) Remove coil packs on brackets from the valve covers. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...a/DSC00039.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...a/DSC00043.jpg
8.) Remove oil dipstick tube on passenger side. (10mm bolt on manifold) http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...a/DSC00048.jpg
9.) Disconnect AIR fittings from manifolds on both sides. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...a/DSC00046.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...a/DSC00049.jpg
10.) Remove the accessory belt
11.) Remove alternator from bracket (2 large bolts) set alternator aside http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...a/DSC00075.jpg
12.) Safely raise vehicle leaving enough room to work under. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...a/DSC00050.jpg If you do not have access to a lift, refer to owner’s manual for proper instructions on lifting your Corvette.
13.) Remove 3 nuts/bolts on each side connecting the stock H-Pipe to the manifolds http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...a/DSC00051.jpg
14.) Remove the 2 bolts holding the stock H pipe up to car http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...a/DSC00053.jpg
15.) Remove O2 sensors in the H pipe, leave harnesses connected http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...a/DSC00055.jpg
16.) Remove 2 bolts per side connecting stock H pipe to your catback http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...a/DSC00057.jpg
17.) Support the H pipe while you remove the last 2 bolts connected to the spring mounts which will allow the h pipe to be removed http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...a/DSC00058.jpg
18.) Remove the H pipe http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...a/DSC00061.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...a/DSC00064.jpg
19.) Disconnect O2 sensors at the ends of each stock exhaust manifold
20.) Relocate to top of vehicle in engine bay
21.) Remove 10mm bolts connecting the manifolds to heads http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...a/DSC00047.jpg
22.) Remove stock exhaust manifolds out the top http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...a/DSC00068.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...a/DSC00073.jpg
23.) Now is a great/easy time to remove sparkplugs if you choose install new ones at this time.
24.) Your stock exhaust system is now removed!
25.) Move back under the vehicle
26.) Remove the 2 bolts holding starter to the block on the passenger side along with the 2 nuts holding the electrical connections.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...a/DSC00070.jpg
27.) Remove the starter wiring *note what attaches where*
28.) Remove the starter
29.) Place the passenger side header up into place, do not bolt down.
30.) With the header up into the engine bay now, slide the starter over the collector. If the header wants to fall out, having someone hold it here works well. *It is a tight squeeze, so try a few different angles and may have to give it some muscle. Also there are a couple wires and a ground strap that may hold you up, so make sure you don’t get hung up on these. Sometimes removing the ground straps on both sides helps, just reattach to the block after the headers are in place
*Check your header clearances here first and make sure you have clearance in the tight areas to the steering shaft on the driv. Side and your AC Line on the pass. Side. If the clearance is tight, you can make a tiny dimple to gain clearance if you like, or you can use a file to trim away some material as well.
31.) Re-attach wiring to the starter with the header up into the engine bay but still completely unbolted.
32.) Bolt the starter up to the engine with the header still loose.
33.) With the header still loose, install your front O2 sensors
34.) Now bolt the header down to the engine, still leaving somewhat loose for fitment.
35.) Headers install from the BOTTOM
36.) Install drivers side header from the BOTTOM.
37.) Before bolting the header to the engine, install your front O2 sensor.
38.) Bolt the drivers side header to the engine, leaving somewhat loose for fitment.
39.) Fit the X-pipe up into the header collectors. With help, have someone hold the X-pipe while you re-install the rear O2 sensors and complete the next few steps.
40.) Use Copper Spray Gasket on the ball and socket flanges of the header collectors and X-pipe, loosely bolt the X-pipe to the headers. Using high-temp thread locker on these bolts is recommended.
41.) Moving back, slip the mid-pipes over the X-pipe and hang using the factory spring mounts.
42.) Connect the rear mid-pipes to the catback, don't forget the gasket!
43.) Moving forward, tighten the headers down the engine using proper torque and torquing method.
44.) Tighten the X-pipe down to the header collectors ensuring EVEN tightening to both side to draw the X-pipe in straight to prevent leaks.
45.) Install clamps to the X-pipe to Mid-pipe connection and tighten.
46.) Tighten the Mid-pipes down to the catback
47.) Go over all connections making sure they are properly tightened with everything aligned.
48.) After a heat cycle of the system, it is recommended to re-check all connections to make sure they are tight as the heat with expand the system.
49.) Re-install all factory items such as dipstick, plug wires, coil packs, alternator, and anything else that may have been removed for the removal of the stock system or the install of the new system.

Is there a trick to getting the headers up from underneath the car? My passenger side is not wanting to go up. Im doing this on the floor with the car raised as high as it will go on jack stands. Im assuming you slide the front of the header up first?

Thanks

JasonSB 12-22-2011 01:19 AM

These do work on an 01 Z06? I didnt think to ask that when I ordered them.

Yes, they fit on all C5's, no fitment differences between any of the C5s. Did you read the instructions and remove the starter? Passenger side takes a little more wiggling than the drivers side but it slides up and in no problem  If this doesn't work please PM me and I can give you a call to help you out

Superman09 12-23-2011 01:52 PM

Happy Holidays!!!!

jgump 12-23-2011 06:02 PM

I had to jack my engine up to get the passenger side in.

JasonSB 12-23-2011 09:07 PM

Finished the install. That's not a job I would want to do again :)
I was able to get the passenger side in without jacking the engine, but it was tight. Probably the biggest pain was putting the starter back on once the headers are up. Its very tight but everything fits well.

My catback is a little off. The right tip sits a little lower than the left and sticks out a little farther. Is there a trick to line them up?

Glad to hear you got them in! Shouldn't have to jack the engine but with how tight these cars are in general, I suppose some may be a touch different than another!

Catbacks on these cars are honestly just a pain in general to line up, haha. Just keep tweaking it a touch at a time and eventually you will get them lined up

How does it sound!?!?

They have always been $899 for catted and $749 for offroad since they have came out. Intro pricing was $25 cheaper and some specials have had cheaper pricing but standard pricing has NEVER changed on these systems

Is it ok to reuse the stock metal headgaskets with these headers? That is what I did as I felt they would hold up better than the gaskets that come with them. So far no problems and seems to seal well.

Absolutely as long as they look good! Typically you can reuse those a few times without issues!

I'm currently shopping the long tube header market for my 98....I'm looking at race style headers & off road X pipe. Car currently has a Corsa Pace Car exhaust on it.

I found a set of coated Kooks for $1200 shipped, TSP coated is $700..sell me on this system.

It appears as if this set up is not ceramic coated?

Easy answer.

This set-up is 321 stainless steel. There is no need for a ceramic coating, simple as that. This system is the best stainless, 321SS, on the market for C5 exhaust systems. Never once have I had or even heard from anyone where they had an issue with this system due to heat, not a single one. Being that this is 321 stainless, the system will last forever. You could leave your car your in salted elements and the whole car would erode away leaving you with this header system laying there

This system fits great, is complete, is all 321 stainless and polished, and in the offroad version for $749 shipped to your doorstep!
You could go with the Kooks for nearly $500 more, which is only 304 stainless, or the TSP for nearly the same price but you will have coated mild steel headers with an uncoated, non-stainless X-pipe. Neither of the other systems have an extra bung in the X for a wideband already there, and neither will have the customer service you would receive from me! :smash:

PM coming as well!

Installed mine last weekend, not a fun job on jack stands but totally doable. I did it completely by myself, the fit is great, passenger side may cause a few cuss words but the install is pretty easy. I have installed much worse systems over the years. The quality of this system is impressive. They sound great, fit well and even without a tune yet, I can tell a huge difference, can't wait to get it tuned, looking forward to seeing what it does to my MPG as well! Great product!

Thank you, I missed that some how?. How much horsepower are the
1 3/4" good up until before you would absolutely need a 1 7/8"?

That is hard to say as it is very dependent on each car, how you are making the power, size of the engine, etc. Even on a stock car, the 1 3/4" and 1 7/8" headers will make different power. Where as a 1 3/4" would be better suited on a stock-ish 346ci car, a 1 7/8" will make "different" power. For example more of RPM range effected power, possibly slightly different peak numbers. I would say you can certainly run 1 3/4" headers on most all applications without much notice in difference, however if you are running big cubes or a ton of horsepower looking for every ounce of power, I would look into larger primaries. Again, it is all based on your specific set-up. Assuming you are making somewhere in the ballpark of 550 rwhp, just guessing, I would say 1 3/4" headers would still work terrific, and a swap to 1 7/8" would maybe net you a couple peak ponies, but the car might get up and go a little better in the lower rpm's with the 1 3/4"

Do you have pictures of the inside of the resonators? Are they straight through like a bullet muffler?

I will check to see if I have one for you!
However, yes, they are straight through with some baffles on the sides

I received my headers on Tuesday. They look amazing. The welds are incredible- very clean and very well made. The car went to the tuner for an install and tune this morning with some extra goodies and an upgraded catback system. I will post feedback once they are on the road. So far so good. Thanks Jon.

I installed my XSpower headers over the holidays. Im very impressed with these headers. Amzing sound they bring through my borla exhaust. You can feel the power they have added. Install took awhile using jack stands.Very impressed with theses headers overall. IMO these headers are best bang for the buck! People always say you get what you pay for. Well there correct I got a set of great longtube headers, just as good as anyone elses on the market for half the price! Can Beat it!

ZZ4Vetteguy 01-18-2012 11:45 AM

These headers are great. I got a set through him about 18 months ago, and have not had one problem with them what so ever. Great quality, and easy install...just make sure to undo the motor mounts if you are using a 4 post lift of you will be there for HOURS...ask me how I know.

Why do you need to undo motor mounts if you are using a 4 post lift?

I am curious here as well. I do know that SOME, not all but SOME 4-post lifts make install a little more tricky due to the ramps taking up some prime real estate that one would normally use to twist the headers up into place. How wide the ramps are and where you car is placed on the ramps really is the factor there. I have seen it once before where the ramps blocked just a smidgeon of some room I wanted to have. However I have done it on MANY other 4-posts without any issues, just SOME and it has to do with the ramps blocking some space  I am assuming that by undoing the motor mounts and jacking the engine up slightly it provided the room to squeeze the header up and in do to not being able to twist it up and in with the ramp blocking

Honestly I have never weighed the stock stuff but do know those manifolds are very heavy! I would say you would be saving weight!

What is the warranty with these headers?

There is a 1 year manufacturer warranty on all workmanship, parts, welds. Then I include what I like to call the good vendor warranty which is: If you have any issues with initial fitment, quality, or anything in general you are dissatisfied with I will replace that component for you make it right and resolve any issue you may have had to the very best of my ability

This system is all 321 stainless so essentially you could leave your car out in a pile of salt forever and when your car was all rotted away, you would see your exhaust laying there

I have zero concerns about fitment or the stainless lasting. The only concern I have is about the welds standing the test of heat cycles and time.

They are tig welded and I have had a set on my car for over 20k miles, road raced, many 1/4 mile passes, daily driver, road trips, and commuter 80 miles to work and back... ZERO issues and still look terrific! The welds are very high quality!

BINGO!...well sort of. I forget which side, but one side went on like butter, the other side no matter how we twisted or what angle we tried to go in, we could not get it where we needed (and it was not blocked by the ramp) When we called Ed Hutchins at VA Speed the first question asked was what kind of lift we were using.

Picked my car up Friday. The tuner was pretty impressed with them and he has a ton of experience with high end name brand headers and junk knock offs. He said the fit was spot on sans a bit of curve towards the back past the X pipe which they were able to straighten out. The car base lined at 358 before tuning. After tune and headers we ended up with 386. Overall, I'm not concerned at all with the welds. Every one of them looked to be top quality.
