What is "the" Corvette color?
Ferrari has Red.
Merc has silver. Porsche... has silver too. Does the Corvette have a signature color? Is there one color that is "quintessential" Corvette? If so, will they offer it on the C7? |
Those are "national" colors...........
It used to be that race teams showed their national colors on their cars; thus the ones you list. Similarly, English cars (think Jaguar and Lotus, for example) raced in green - "British racing green", and French cars were blue. American race teams were white - the Briggs Cunningham cars and their Corvettes ran in white with blue stripes.
That practice was displaced by the advent of commercialism and advertising on the cars, and the use of corporate colors. The old guard in F1 was horrified when Team Lotus showed up in the John Player Special (tobacco) colors of black and gold instead of the tradional green. Today, race teams do pretty much what they want based on their sponsors desires. Factory race teams - like the ones you list - still run national colors in some cases. So - why is the corvette race team using yellow instead of white? :confused2: |
The original (1953) Corvette color and the only one that has been available every year is white.
|
I don't think Porsche really has a color. Silver is a German thing, but I don't really think of silver as the quintessential Porsche color. In fact, when I think of the 911, I imagine black or very dark gray first, with white and silver and red and dark blue right behind....
History buffs would say that Corvette's signature color is white -- specifically Polo White with a Guardsman Red interior -- in reference to the Motorama show car and the first production Corvette. And I think it's true that Corvette has kept white as an available color even if sales figures would otherwise call for its replacement. Others would refer to the book "All Corvettes Are Red," which got its title from something John Heinricy once said in frustration in a meeting about colors for the C5 -- "All Corvettes are red. The rest are mistakes." Of course, there are hearty disagreements on this forum about precisely which red... Then there's LL Cool J's "Goin' Back to Cali" which mentions a black Corvette, and Chris Tucker's character's black 1969 Stingray in "Rush Hour." Black has been the most popular color over the last few years in terms of new Corvette sales, which makes the Centennial Edition a nasty case of price gouging (in 2012 black is effectively a $5000 option), btw. But I don't really think of any of these as the quintessential Corvette color -- like 911, Corvette has worn a lot of colors over the years, and could be identified with any or all of them. This icon is not monochromatic. .Jinx |

I think Corvette has worn yellow to go racing for more years than the original USA white and blue scheme.
That seems to be the factory works color. |
All corvettes should be RED! although the best selling color is black..
As far as what is america's traditional racing car color???? White with blue stripes......or blue with White stripes.. |
Only color there is MY...end of story
The Big Dog |
i just think yellow, because of corvette racing
|

Acar
As said above, ACAR according to a famous GM person which is why the first production C5 was red,
Yellow is a visibility thing for Corvette racing. Yellow against black (the road surface) is the highest visibility for the normal human eye. Easier for the pit persons to see and easier for the slower cars to recognize. By the by. the assigned (by the FIA) German racing color is white. At one GP race in the 1930s the MB GP cars were over weight, so the team sanded off the paint to reduce the weight down to the acceptable maximum. That started the "silver arrows" name and tradition for MB. The assigned colors for the US are white with a blue stripe. No one follows those rules anymore but tradition does carry some weight. McL has always been associated with the orange shade made famous in the US by the McL CanAm cars and the Indy cars:cool: |
I would say red for corvette
|
Red.

I think I tend to go with white myself, with yellow or black probably being the most common colors for the C5/C6 models you see on the road today. Blue is my favorite though; I went out of my way to get a blue one.
|
I would have to say red. Nassau Blue is pretty quintessential Corvette too... especially on a C2. But red is hard not to think of when you think of a Corvette.
|
Read the book written by James Schefter
Rebirth of an American Legend ALL CORVETTES ARE RED, all the rest are mistakes. |
Well if the C7 is going to appeal to the younger set I guess they will adopt some metro-sexual colors....

Red, white & black are the classic Corvette colors.
|
Different gens, different colors it seems. C4 maybe white or red. c5 a lot of silver ones were advertised/tested but also red, then a slight push for le manns blue I noticed. And c6 was def dominated by yellow, untill atomic orange came out. Now that its gone most of the toys and things have gone to red from what I notice. C6 test cars did push jetstream blue and cyber gray for the short time they were new, but that died pretty quick. Now it seems mixed.
|
I'm biased towards black
|
White w/red interior.
Can't get anymore classic than that. |

It's not called "resell red" for nothing.

:iagree: I think it would have to be white!! During the plant tour they tell you that they have continuously offered white because of the historical significance that it has to the car! (Even the '83 Corvette at the NCM is white)
No, Dammit, they are NOT all RED! |
i would say that red would be it but who knows.
|
I'm for the classic white vettes
 |
Jet stream blue, what I always think of when I think Corvette.

White because of the first Vette folowed by Red because of the remarks made by John Heinricy.
P.S. I am partial to red. White vettes are not manly enough:thumbs:  |

Yes, Madagascar Cinnamon Red, Gingerbread Rust, Peppermint White/Sage, Maccihiato Pewter, Frappuccino Blue , Pumpkin Spice Burgundy, Dolce Silver, Mocha Black, Autumn Brulee Yellow- would do nicely.
Thank you. |
Red works for me. I would accept any color though.
|
red
|
White

yellow...corvette has been getting its props here lately for the racing sector...world wide recognition and the color you see is yellow...
|
Red

The color you want.

White!
Just like the '53 ... there is no other TRUE Corvette color IMHO. All other colors still look amazing and a Vette is a Vette is a Vette! A White Corvette is the true color though. It's how they started, how could it not be the color? :) |
Nassau Blue all the way. But Targa Blue from 1970 was the best blue IMO...

I would buy any color BUT red. That being said LeMans Blue is a stunning color, the yellow has an immediate tie to Corvette Racing, white carries the historical significance, and black is hands-down my favorite WHEN CLEAN.
|
first one was '02 Torch Red now have "07 Atomic Orange tough call, I like'em all!
|
I've admired corvettes for 50 years. I'd say there are two signature colors, white is the first, and red is the second.

As much as I truly hate yellow, I would have to consider it the flagship color of vettes anymore. It's ugly, but it's sporty and it hearkens back to the most dominant racing program of this generation.
Deep reds all look terrible, IMO. They're lipsticks and nail polishes. It never was tough for me to make the connection when every vette-driving, middle aged woman with curler-styled hair poking through the top of a golf visor was driving that exact one- and usually paired with a tan top and interior, lol. It's the quintessential wife-edition color. |

I've always been on the LeMans Blue bandwagon. Somebody said recently naming colors after legendary racetracks is a nice, albeit limited, idea.

White, but blue, red, black, yellow, and silver are also frequently used.

I knida am in love with the carlysle (ice blue metallic) but i still love the white as well. I am fickle i guess.

black:willy:

I always thought of Porsche as being a silver car, especially during the 356 years.
In general I think of silver being a sports car color and red being a sports vert. color. |
To me the only color of a real Vette was Red. Since that was the color of my 87. or
To me the only color of a real Vette is Orange. Since that was the color of my 73. That being said, I tend to agree with White body with the red interior. But, any Corvette in any color is still a Corvette. |

White as THE Corvette color works for the 1953 model, personally. And that's coming from someone whose favorite color is black. Torch Red is the modern Corvette color, it just pops. Vibrant is an understatement for it. Glad they brought it back, would be great if it were here to stay.
Sure, white is historical, so is the 6 cylinder. Where's the love for the blue flame heritage? |
"the" Corvette color is WHITE!
:toetap: and my arms are akimbo on this matter but I like yellow, dark red, red, blue, green.......and WHITE! Did I mention WHITE? :willy: |
'THE' Corvette color is the one in your garage!!:flag:
