Jacking points with 4 post lift.
I have a 4 post lift with jacking tray
Where are the best jacking points under the car to lift with minimal issues. Want to change wheels in the garage. Thx Btw. Can't use standard jack points as the car in on a runway |
I have some real short bottle jacks. They sit on the ramps and lift from the normal jacking points. I bought them at a liquidator in Portland and can't find more anywhere. They are only 3" high compressed. If I adjust the screw tight against the jack puck they have enough lift to get the tires off the ramp. They also fit under the control arms. If you got the jack plate a normal jack will fit under the cross member.

I use the crossmember between the wheels. I put a 6 inch by 1 1/4 inch board between the jack/jack stands and the crossmember to distribute the weight. I actually have a low profile hydraulic scissors jack that slides between the ramps of my 4 post lift that I use to lift the car from the conventional side rail points and then put jack stands under the crossmember to support one end of the car while I move the jack to the other end to get all 4 wheels off the ground at once.

I bought a bottle jack that has a surface area of about a quarter. I can see me lifting the car and the jack slipping off the jacking point and punching a hole in my floorpan. That's the luck I have.
I was hanging a painting earlier tonight and while putting a screw in the back of the frame, the drill slipped and tore the canvas. Just an example, so I want my bet odds of not screwing up my vette. |
Just a FYI - Here's a diagram of the preferred lifting points on the C6.
