1967 Red on Red 427-435 Coupe E-Bay
Hi folks, just got off the phone with the dealer in San Diego about this car, it's on e-bay with video's, my son is intersted in it he lives in San Diego, he said he can't wait till I keel over and get mine so he wants to look at it. It was listed a while back for 100k now he's asking 59k he tells me it has a CE block the casting # is 3916321, I thought all 427's back in 67 were 3904351 if you folks could help decipher those numbers and tell me what you think that motor is.
It was a Goodwood Green car with green vinyl, everything else checks out to be a big block, it's got some good options, the tranny and rear are original to the car, It has no paperwork at all, tank sticker is gone, it has the winters snow flake on the manifold, they also said they put 40k into the engine and suspension with all the receipts. I see that that numbers appears as a late production number in the black book, but it does not show anything for a CE block.

CE block is just a Chevrolet replacement engine, so I wouldn't expect the casting numbers to necessarily align with the original numbers.

CE prefix stamp pad is a warranty engine from 1969 through somewhere around 1973.
The CE is the PREFIX, and is not an engine code. Check this out: http://www.reocities.com/MotorCity/D...0/ceblock.html Apparently, they were simply the new numbering system that Chevy used on all service replacement engine assemblies beginning April 1969, whether short-block, long-block, or whole. The C stands for Chevrolet, E stands for Engine (T would be Transmission), and the first number is the year. then there is a serial number for the engine, based on the xxxth engine that year. The serial is 20,000 to 49,999 for Flint and 50,000 to 79,999 for Tonawanda. For example, CE950327 is a Chevrolet engine from Tonawanda for 1969 and was the 327th produced, not that it was a 327. (It could be, but that would be an incredible coincidence.) Also, some include a letter in the number sequence, such as CE9A50327. The "A" indicates the second pass through the numbers, as the sequence only allows for 30,000 engines. That means that CE950000 through CE979999 were built, then they began CE9A50000 through CE9A79999. Then they went to CE9B50000 and so on. They built a lot more than they originally anticipated. |

Bill JohnZ has talked about the CE warranty program several times and how it was vastly under-estimated by the power at GM. The CE markings were used to track and record the number of engines being used. Prior to this program, you would often get an engine that could have the correct codes on the pad. For example, if you blew up your early '63 -RE engine in say November, you might get an engine with an -RE stamp to replace it, as they just pulled a regular production engine (short or long block) from the warehouse and sent it to the dealer. |

Yes,that was a lame test ride, he's gonna check it out tomorrow. Thanks for all your input, if he says it's decent, then I'm gonna fly down there it's only an hour flight and check it out myself, he knows enough from me as what to look for, the birdcage has me worried. Thanks again.

Yep, it's now 159K, now that has to be wrong, not worth that kind of money, being that it is NOM.

My son decided against it due to his just buying a house and the other side was'nt to keen on it, anyway I talked to the dealer sunday he was selling it for 59k, I don't understand the 100k increase, crazy.
