ABS, Traction Control error message
 

I've had our stock 01 for 2 years and the above sensor came on a couple times during the first few months and then I changed a couple grounds and it quit until a month ago, now it's on every time I start the car. I can press reset until the warnings disappear but the warning lights stay on...Any suggestions?

Grab the Codes from the DIC and let us know which they are - that will point us in the right direction!

Do-It-Yourself owners will be most interested in the display of diagnostic trouble codes for all modules that transmit them. The Diagnostic Display Mode is entered with the following procedure:
1) Turn on the ignition but don't start the engine.
2) Press the RESET button to turn off any warning messages
3) Press and hold OPTIONS
4) While holding OPTIONS, press FUEL four times within a 10-second period.

There are a number of elements to the system and only the codes will tell which is the problem

Post them up. There are quite a few AH/TCS experts on the Forum.

Codes I retrieved are:
28-TCS C 1214 HC
60-IPC U 1160 H
AL-RDCM B 2265 H

Don't worry about the other ones just the TCS:

C1217 BPMV Pump Motor Relay Contact CKT Open

You want to go to the connection on the ABS Pump/Module pull the Harness Clip off and clean the contacts with contact cleaner "NOT WD-40" or any oil based spray! A CONTACT Cleaner!!!

Inspect the pins and sockets (Male and Female connections within the clip itself) make sure none are out of round or appear to not be making a clean connection) repair if they are with a dental pick set!

Re-Clip it in and make sure it is and clipped tight, locked down with the factory clip. Give it a test drive!

We will go from there if it comes back this is STEP #1

Sounds like maybe your ABS module is in need of repair.
I had mine fixed by ABSFIXER and it works great, I had the 1214 code also.

Also go under the hood in the fuse box, battery den area and check the the RELAY (ABS Relay) -

Pull it out clean the tabs and inspect the female socket with flashlight! Use contact cleaner!

He is getting the 1214 C, Not the 1217 code.

Codes are: 28-TCS C 1214 HC, 60-IPC U 1160 H and AL-RDCM B 2265 H

I'm afraid a C1214 (C meaning current) is a classic EBCM failure. You can replace it or send it to absfixer.com. the repair cost with those guys is about $150 against $1000+ for a new EBCM.

There's a DIY thread on how to resolder the EBCM circuit boards if you're handy that way (and brave!)

The good news is you can drive the car while the EBCM is away for fixing, you just lose the protection from AH/TCS and ABS while its not fitted.


Let me know if you want the procedure telling how to pull the EBCM.

The codes with the "H" after them are History codes and are no longer current, The codes with the "C" are current and are the ones that need attention.

"IF" it does not work then your Model Module can be sent to ABS Fixer like Mr.Billl said!

ah the old 1214 code you can send it in or fix yourself, wasn't that hard to do, when removed from car its safe to drive, but your steering will feel heavy and sluggish, brakes also, just a little heads up on that.

Where is the ABS module located?

If you or a friend are comfortable with delicate soldering on circuit boards your 1214 code can probably be dealt with yourself. As the other posters have said, it is (normally--not always) a relay in the EBCM. You may not even need a new relay, as quite a few people have found the problem to be poor/broken solder joints on the relay and once re-soldered it is fine. Some replace anyway, of course, as the relay is cheap as mentioned. Good luck and please post back after you have solved your problem telling us what you did.

ABS Fixer is not the only game in town if you don't want to tackle it yourself. Ebay has at least one repairman who has done work for some Forum members and I haven't heard complaints. The eBay guy is also much cheaper. Don't have his name but a search on the Forum may put you on him, or ask.

That is a step by step for EVERYTHING. From removal of EBCM to fixing the relay issue and re-installing. Take a look through it and see if you're comfortable with the procedures. If you are tackle it be done with it and save a decent chunck of change. I've done this, made the write up and numerous others have followed....it works.

1997 - 1998 Mid year they are located in the rear of the Vette but inlate 1998 they stareted to install the ABS unit up front, right in front of the Power Steering Pump, (Drivers Side)

My ABS and Traction warning lights were lite for about 3 days on my 1998. I noticed the battery was not fully charged (reading about 12.4 volts). I charged the battery AND removed the 2 fuses (I did not see any relays on my 1998) and cleaned the contacts/fuses. It fixed this, no more lights !

Error 1217 FIX
 

I had this problem with Service Traction control light being on and the abs. I cleared all my codes and the 1217 c keep popping back up.
I check the fuse box near the battery under hood. The #52 ABS Fuse 40 amp was blown (probably from changing the battery or from my old battery constantly loosing charge after Vette sat for periods of time) I replaced the huge fuse and everything is fine. Remember after you change fuse to clear the error code in computer.

I also get the service abs/traction contriol warning on occasion, but only when I pull out of my garage and make a hard turn onto the drive way. Does the steering position have anything to do with this?
