Michelin Pilot Super Sport 345/30ZR19

Great news! I just called Michelin to see if a Pilot Super Sport 345/30ZR19 is in development and was told this it is! :woohoo:

No word on availability; however, at least it's in the works. I hope my GY run craps can hold up for a little longer until the PSS 345/30ZR19 is available. I hope! I hope! I hope!

98turbls1 04-04-2011 02:33 PM

You know, I was so pumped that Michelin is developing a PSS 345/30ZR19 that I forgot to ask about pricing. No doubt it will be around $550 per tire.

BTW, as a way to speed up getting the PSS 345/30ZR19 to market, the Michelin representative said more interested consumers need to call as I did. Call! Call!! Call!!!

BTW, I'm dumbfounded that Michelin produced and marketed a PSS 345/30ZR20 before a 345/30ZR19. IMO that sure appears to be poor marketing research on Michelin's behalf. Who knows? Maybe there's more 20's on the street than I think.

david9962000 04-04-2011 11:23 PM

The 275/35 18 is available and the back 325/30 19 should be out soon, since it's the rear of a 997 GT2.

C2C6Z06 04-05-2011 06:55 PM

Great news, I just read the info in the general C6 section and was bummed to find no rear Z tires...Will call and ask for a trial discount :-)

what number should we call?

160KTS 04-07-2011 06:50 PM

Just like Potenza, companies are focusing on Grand Sports... and thus we are included. They want to develop tires in Grand Sport sizes and don't want to go any larger than the 325. The RE-11 is coming out soon in Grand Sport sizes... but not larger sadly enough. I don't want to run anything under a 335 personally.. My NT05's are the first tire that have hooked for me... the PS2 was just a pile of garbage after the halfway point.

JetBlue427 04-14-2011 09:57 PM

there definately in the Michelin base price book for Jan 2011 and the suggested retail price is a tad cheaper then PS2s...but Im not sure exactly what they will sell for on the market.
I plan on getting mine this summer!

AbsolutHank 04-14-2011 09:59 PM

TireRack is saying 4th quarter 2011 for that size, as its the OE Viper size

The Bstone Pole Position Potenza was designed long before the GS was born. It was specifically designed for the Z06. GM, in their infinite wisdom, chose the GY instead.

At least the GS guarantees better tire availability in the future.

JetBlue427 04-14-2011 10:33 PM

I think this is going to be the tire to beat! it has better wear rating then the PS2`s...its retail price is cheaper...and it has a 55,000 kilometer warranty (@35K miles) to back it up

I have a set of those in the 20" coming for my GT, but you should check the rolling height, because they are substantially lower than the stock tires.

It's alright, I'm just getting a little tired of every damn thread that has any kind of comparison turning into personal attacks. I'm only guilty of defensive moves, and frankly it's not even worth that. As far as this thread, I was responding to Saturate about the Bstone being around longer than the GS. No mention of michelins.

will the 345s do better than the stock c6 z06 325/30ZR19 on stock rims
in autocross or a track? I would think the extra width would give extra grip, but i did research a few years ago about this, and it turned out the 345s performed worse.. but i might be remembering incorrectly.
What do you think?

TripleBlack99 05-07-2011 05:53 PM

michelin rep.. kristen was it??

the michelin rep told me that z06 rear sizes would likely not be until the next sizing refresh, which would not happen until late this year, maybe even early 2012.

it is my understanding that the super sports have better dry, wet, and wear than the ps2's, which has me really wanting those.

Does anyone think that getting the super sports in smaller rear sizes would be ok?

for instance in order to get rears today i have to get 305/30/19 in the rears. And then when the 325s are available in a year, i would get those. The discount tire guy says they will fit, so i am considering it. it would cost about $1800 installed. If i dont go that route, then I will go with the bridgestone runflats for about the same price since i had a very good experience with those... better grip and 3 times the wear as the goodyears.

Vito.A 05-07-2011 07:52 PM

Great news on the new Super Sport!

I am running PS2 345/30-19's now and can wait until next year.

Personally, I would run PS2 345's before I would compromise and go with 305 or even 325's. The 345 fits and looks great, like it was made for the car. It rides and handles so much better then the OEM Goodyears.

TripleBlack99 05-10-2011 03:32 PM

the michelin rep also said that the pilot sport cup ZP tires will be available in c6 z06 sizes in about 2 months. this info is already known

18 and 19" sizes as well?

offshore241 05-11-2011 08:07 AM

I got to run the new Pilot Super Sports on several differnt cars yesturday !! BMWs, Lexus, etc. The had the same cars with Pirelli's, Contintals, and Goodyears. Felt like the S/S equiped cars had Motons, and big sway bars, that much of a difference.

OMG, what an amazing tire, ran circles around the other tires, no comparison. Did't give up anything in the wet as well.

My next set of tires for my with will be the Super Sports !!

Its is a very nice fully treaded tire

KLRBEE2 05-11-2011 01:02 PM

I was told that going with a 12.5-13 inch wheel in the rear would take care of the fitting/look issue...is this correct?

Thanx!

i'm running them on my E36 328is beater and they seem very decent. however... things could be completely different when i try to put 2.7x the power down in a car that weighs almost exactly the same.

Hummm...does the difference in circumference (about 2.2 inches based on Michelin specs for 325 vs 345) make a noticeable difference in handling? Also, how much does it change the speedometer reading?:flag:

jsilvz 08-24-2011 06:56 PM

Michelin does have a 275/35/19 which is 1" taller and a 345/30/20 which is 1.4" taller than OEM available now. Has anybody tried these sizes on a Z06. What negative effect would the increased height have on the car? Anybody?

Michelin Pilot Supersports Tires in Z06 Sizes

Any updates on availability? I am overdue for replacing my tires. Fronts are fine and rears are at the tread bars at 10,500 miles. Go figure. I am up for inspection this month and needing those PSS tires pretty badly.

eagle0001 11-02-2011 07:14 AM

I haven't seen or heard anything although I'm not really following it anymore...I couldn't wait any longer so I slapped on PS2s. You may want to call Michelin and see what they say about a release of the PSS in the larger size.

Undy 11-02-2011 12:31 PM

I called Michelin customer service a week or so ago and the person I spoke to couldn't even spell Super Sport... I was supposed to get a call-back and to no surprise, never got one. I've got 27K thus far on my PS2s and easily have another 10K+ of good safe tread left. I sure would like to see 40K and just might... I'll check on the SS availablity just before I put my next set on.

3 Z06ZR1 11-23-2011 11:54 AM

Just buy the Nitto Invo and forget it! For the price difference.
The buy is the Nitto! The Ps-2 is over rated after two sets of 4!
They wear quicker and have little over the Invo!

Luke@tirerack 11-23-2011 01:11 PM

When the Pilot Super Sport Originally came Michelin's official position was that there would not be any of the Pilot Super Sport tires produced in sizes where the had specifically engineered a Pilot Sport PS2 for an OE fitment, such as the ZR1 Corvette and the subsequent additions for previous model Corvettes like the C6 Z06.

Initially there were 48 sizes offered and Michelin stated that there would be no new sizes would be added until the first or second quarter of 2012.

With that saidm if Michelin introduces sizes additional to the PSS line up that includes Corvette sizes you can rest assured that I will post the information here as soon as it's official

I guess that applies "except for the BMW 1M" and perhaps others I didn't bother to check on. The 1M comes standard with 245/35-19 front, 265/35-19 rear PS2's, both sizes are available in the Pilot SuperSport. My preferred new street tires for my 09Z06 are Pilot SuperSport.

For those of you who argue Bridgestone, I look to run in classes in the Silver State Challenge which requires (Y) that's Bracket Y tires rated 186+ MPH. The Bridgestones are only rated Y - 186 MPH.

I have NT-05's for HPDE's, but that aren't accepted by the sponsoring organization for the SSCC above the Touring class.

Can the 345/19 tires be used with the 275-35/18 on stock wheels or should I get the 325-30-19s ? I would like a little wider on the back because the Michelins tend to look smaller than the G/Y's but I don't want to mess anything up. I need new tires now but would be willing to wait some if these are that good.

Michelin recommends an 11.5-12.5" rim for the PS2 in the 345/19 size, so your stock rims should be fine for the PSS's. If you go with the 275/345 combo, you will get better straight line traction from the 345's but have a little more understeer in the corners (just offset it with some power oversteer). The currently available 285/35-18 PSS would be a better match for the 345's.

Any downside to going with the larger tires or is it best to stay with stock sizes? What are the advantages to the SS tires over the PS2's. Thanks.

I run the 275 front and 345 rear PS2 combination. It fits and works quite well. I went with a 275 front because the PS2 was not available in a 285.

On the M PS2 in the 295/35-18 and 345/30-19 most on the forum report no rubbing. That is true of most with Nitto NT-05's in the 295/335 size. I do HPDE's and get rubbing on both the front and rear NT-05's. That is a potential downside to larger tires. The upside is more traction and better "filling" of the wheel wells.

The PSS has been tested and provides better grip than the PS2 and has a 300 wear rating compared with the 220 of the PS2, so it should wear linger than the PS2. The PS2 is available as a run-flat while the PSS is not. My understanding from M advertisements is they will warranty tread life on "position sensitive" cars like the Z06 for 15K miles. On cars where the tires can be rotated they warranty them for 30K miles of tread life.

Other than DOT rated race rubber, I think the Super Sports will be the tire that all the other MFRs set there cross-hairs on. They could be the 1st true 40,000 mile performance tire. I will own a set as soon as they debut.

I'm on my second set of PS2s now, with 59K total miles. I run the 275/345 combination. When I put my 1st set on I got the warning light once, on a high speed braking maneuver. I never got it again. I honestly think the BCM has an adaptive learning function and after a while the slight mis-match in tire height is allowed for. A wider front tire is not necessarily a good thing. A bulging sidewall will compromise cornering capabilities negating any benefits realized from an increased contact patch.

The M PSS 285/35-18 is sized for a 9 1/2 to 11" rim, so M is happy with it performing on a stock Z06 front rim and it has about a 1/2" more tread than the 275, thus should have more grip and come close to maintaining the stock front/rear balance if a 345 rear is used. I'll still probably go with the 275/325 combo as my 335 NT-05's rub on the inner fender liner due to their higher overall diameter and the PSS 345 is probably even a little taller.

No word on availability; however, at least it's in the works. I hope my GY run craps can hold up for a little longer until the PSS 345/30ZR19 is available. I hope! I hope! I hope!

Forgive my ignorance, but does that size fit the stock wheel with no issues (rubbing)? :hide:

These are the Michelins that I am running on my Z06 now.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....oModClar=SRT10 Coupe

I have over 12,000 miles on them and still have 5/32 of tread. They are also very good in the rain as well as on dry pavement.

:cool:I may be going overkill on my 98 vert! I am going to 18/19 inch wheels and need a new set of tires and after all the reviews decided these were the ones to get! The C5 guys don't even mention them. I am waiting for my rear set to get here and in the spring will be hitting the road! I am very excited to see how these tires perform.

You realize the PSS in either the 345 or 325 size won't be available until mid-Feb., so you must have gotten the PS2's? Of course, those sizes are probably too wide for your C5.

For the rear I purchased 275/35ZR19 (100Y) for 19 x 10 wheels, fronts are 245/40ZR18 (97Y) for 18 x 9.5 They are the Pilot Super Sports from TireCrawler.com
You don't think these will fit? They are in the garage and havent put them on yet, these were the recomended sizes.
I will be a bit upset if they dont fit!

I was concerned with 345 or 345 not fitting as those are the sizes discussed on this C6 Z06 chat board. The sizes you got should work on the C5. Don't worry, be happy.

They're in production now!!!!

I talked to Michelin last Thursday and they told me the new tires are already in production! They will be hitting the distributors starting the 1st of February. I'm #2 to receive a set on Luke@tirerack's "super sport" tire list. They'll be replacing my 30K mile+ non-runflat PS2s.

What is the difference between these tires and the PS2's? On stock sized Z06 Rims, will the 345's bulge? Do they make matching 295's 18's for the front? Does anyone have pricing information?

AzDave47 01-29-2012 05:04 PM

Higher tread wear rating (300 vs PS2 220), more grip, but non-runflat. No pricing yet but comparable to PS2 non-run flat. No info yet on dimensions, but they are supposed to make 325/30-19 and 345/30- 19; 285/35-18 is the current widest 18.

Thankis Dave. I am comparing non-runflat to non-runflat. I was under the impression that the PS2's were superior and a newer version or the PSS? I want to replace my factory OEM tires on my 08 Z06 with factory rims, but am having a hard time deciding if I stick with the OEM size or increasing the sizes. I am concerned with any lights popping up due to different ratios. Besides looks and obviously more grip and traction, are there any other benefits with going with wider tires? I read that they create more drag, and also decrease RWHP/RWTQ, due to them being heavier.

AzDave47 01-29-2012 08:43 PM

The Michelin Pilot SuperSports is Michelin's newest max performance tire, first introduced last year. The PS2 was their highest performance tire, but it was introduced at least 4-5 years ago. Quite a few of us on this forum have been waiting for them to come out with the Z06 rear size(s) and it is supposed to happen in a few days, finally. I understand that M should warranty these tires at least in the stock sizes for 15K miles as they cannot be rotated. In rotation applications they have a 30K wtread wear warranty.

eight3two 01-29-2012 09:11 PM

Where does the PS3 fit in Michelins performance hierarchy?

AzDave47 01-29-2012 10:11 PM

Looks like the PS3 is a Green version of the PSS and available in very limited sizes. Currently they only make one 19" tire, a 255;35-19, so I'd say M will focus more on the PSS for our Z's.

What? So this entire thread and information about Michelin making the PSS available in the 345's 19-inch and possibly stock Z06 sizes is innacurate?

I was under the impression that on stock sized rims, if you go up two sizes on the back to the 345's, that you would have to match the two larger size for the front to 295's. I see that they only make up to a 285 for the front. Will this cause any issues with the ratios?

I've got 62,000 miles of running the 345/275 PS2s (2 sets) on my Z and never had an aspect ratio caused probelm. I figured the 285s would be a bit closer though...

275/35/19 front 26.6" diam.
345/30/20 rear 28.1" diam.
Too tall, too large of aspect ratio?
any thoughts?
