1995 door panel
my 95 coupe has a loose drivers side door panel.
the dealer told me to order the panel and they would install it. The panels run $500 in mid america and ecklers. My question is, will the panel {black} be a match for the passenger side or should i replace them both even though the passenger side is ok. Would rather not spend the exrta $500 if i dont have to. Thanks cessna 10 |
I have a gray panel from Mid America, for 94-96, and it's a decent match for the original, but close examination would show the differences. The seam in the OEM panel, between the colored area and black areas on the non-black panels, is actually flatter and shallower on the repros.
I'll sell you my gray one for $60 plus shipping, a can of SEM black vinyl dye would be a cheap way to get you going :) |
thanks, but no thanks

Sometimes you can screw the door panel to the door. There is a place on the side where the earlier panels had a screw. If it is loose at the top (very common) you can hide a screw(s) beside the inner rubber seal. Unless you have a 100 point car, $500 is alot of money, and yes, the other panel will loosen up as time goes by. The fiberglass backing either flexes or breaks with time.

It is worth noting that the reproduction panels are built differently and seem to be resistant to cracking like the OEM panels' backing.

If the panel is in otherwise good shape, a quick search here will reveal a number of repair methods available that will cost you next to nothing.

Do a search for door panel, you will find tons of posts. Here is one

Up at the top of the forum in the red bar you will see a "Search" option - there is also an Advanced Search, which is more useful as you can choose which forums you want to search.
Here's another: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-g...wire-ties.html And another good fix while you have the panel off is to add a small L-bracket or two at the top of your doors (using existing bolts) to give the top edge of the door panel more to grab onto. |
