Hinson Vette Crashes/Rolls at 230 at Texas Mile

http://jalopnik.com/#!5786094

In a testament to building a car with safety in mind, the driver walked away from the crash!

No vid of it.. but sounds like last year's Lambo crash..

looks like a bar of some sort in there

OnPoint 03-27-2011 01:49 PM

Yes, a roll bar/cage is required at the Texas Mile for any car that is faster than 190 mph.

No doubt it is what saved this guy (and the fellow that put the Lambo airborne last October - I witnessed that one, very scary as no doubt this one was too).

Glad he's ok.

looks like a 4 or 6 point roll bar, a cage is alot stronger
,
that driver was verry lucky to walk away from that
it was not that tiny roll bar, it was the man above:blueangel:

that car has no cage, a cage should be required for cars running
over 200, i hope they do not relize that after it's to late

nhra's cage rule is cars running faster then 135

I don't know exactly what the required specs are, as I don't run in that class (I've made it barely into the 180s there with my stuff, and have no plans to do the mods necessary to make it in the 190+ class). Thus, I haven't paid much attention to their required roll bar specs.

The Texas Mile website has the specs/requirements for the roll bars.

bigwoolyg 03-27-2011 02:06 PM

from the rules:

2.5. ROLL BAR/CAGE: All cars that are attempting speeds at or over 190mph are required to have a four-point roll bar at minimum. A six- or eight-point cage is highly recommended

wow they only require a 4 point bar, thats nuts for cars
running over 200 mph

Im glad Lane was able to walk away from the accident, I visited with him at the Texas mile on Friday and have to say that was one amazing car. I visit with the Hinson brothers at the Texas Mile after their first run and they mention they had 500HP to play with and they were shooting for the 240MPH! I believe that car would have made it with no problems!

bigwoolyg 03-27-2011 02:36 PM

what about the aerodynamic engineering of these cars? I don't think the Z was designed with 240mph in mind.. certainly some work to combat lift is needed - I would hope that Hinson's team is not just pushing power, but taking aero into account..

They might require a 4 Point Bar, but I saw the car at the Mile, and I can assure you that cage was well built and it wasnt a 4 point........
I think there are pictures on their site of the Quality Cages they are known for.

i realy do not think that car has a cage, there are no roof bars, do not see any windshield pillar bars, at most i think it had a 6 point bar, not a cage. looked at some other pics and might not have even been a 6 point
