Popping that 427 is an art form!!!! They ought to make it a Summer Olympic event.

Add a cam and headers and you have a symphony.
Don't like it....get a VOLT.
Just kidding!!! It's all a matter of taste.

You just bought a sports car. There should be a switch to make the popping louder.

4GS7 03-17-2011 10:21 AM

I love it, but you can tune it out. It's from the car dumping gas on the overrun. Pretty simple actually.

GM’s newly designed mufflers I believe, are nothing more than using the 2008 and up optional NPP muffler, and welding a 3” inlet into that
2 1/2" muffler, and called it a day. They added the X pipe on the
2011's, mostly, to help control some of the popping. If they ran the H-pipe, popping would have been more pronounced. That is why I believe on the 06-10 Z06, came with that perforated pipe which some of you covered to change the sound.

So, everyone who covered or replaced that perforated pipe, will get popping upon deceleration. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Now if GM wanted to do it right, they would have redesigned their muffler, making it a TRUE 3” system.

I put on Corsas, in part, because they magnify the popping on decel.

LMAO..... thats right there with guys trying to max out gas mileage in a Z06! Hello...you bought this thing with the idea of saving money on fuel? I cant burn fuel fast enough and gas mileage isnt a concern for the 6/8 months 5k miles that are put down in a season. Z= performance machine, not a Volt.

I know what will fix it, buy a honda accord. That might suit you better. Jk to each his own.

Bauker 03-17-2011 02:30 PM

I like the popping, but then again - I don't own a honda or a purse.

Agreed....the popping sounds like total @$$. A smoother, toned exhaust is definetly a better sounding one IMO.

Will an x-pipe cure this?

I don't know how you "cure" something that's not broken.. The popping sounds awesome! The car would not be the same without it.

FYI I have LG long tubes with an X pipe and it pops like crazy.. LOVE it!

Make it a Chevy Malibu. Great car and the exhaust doesn't pop.

Even if you swapped mufflers with an earlier Z06 you still might have the popping because your module keeps the valves open when you lift.
.

The valves don't have anything to do with the popping, so swapping mufflers with an earlier Z06 will solve your issue. I have an 06 and even with the fuse pulled (which keeps the valves open all the time), I never got any popping on decel which is why I switched to B&B Fusions. :D

+1

Maybe a Caddy would of suited you better?:lurk:

But on a serious note... I'm not sure how you could rid yourself of that besides maybe adding on a couple extra super restrictive mufflers? I know Corsa makes some multi-chambered mufflers that will put a cap on the noise. Give them a call.

And an earlier Z06 muffler won't fix it.. my 06 Z06 did it with stock exhaust.

andy82 03-17-2011 07:11 PM

I let my baby pop whenever she can and I'll like it :D

toxin440 03-17-2011 07:15 PM

i have stock exhaust everything on my 08 Z06.

have the muffler mod cutout thingy, and a mild2wild system. and i *LOVE* the popping on decel.... so badass.

IHTFP 03-17-2011 08:43 PM

Popping on decel is part of the game, obviously you have never been around race cars.

Ultimo Hombre 03-17-2011 09:02 PM

I love the "popping" on decel...
I love it when race cars do it, I love it when other cars do it, and I love it when my Z06 does it especially...
call me crazy :)
