What is the best year of the z06?
Hey guys, im on my quest for my first z, and would like to know which year was the fastest and lightest. Also what years had the engine probs and structural probs.
|
2011 ZO7 best and fastest on the track. Lightest is the 2006 less options best trans 2008 and newer. They all are about the same though just better tires or brakes and some traction control on the new one's. The best ZO6 is always the one in your own garage.

light-'06-progressively heavier but all Z06's remain lightest Vettes built. Some engines in build dates approx Jan-June cars, NOT all affected. Small number. Roof delamination were all covered by GM. I have not read of any problems. Both are mute issues. These are tough sports cars-but no different from any other. Their a excellent performance value/bang for buck. Good luck. |
The lightest and fastest would probably be the first few thousand built in late 2005. The BEST would probably be the newest.
|
Or whatever year you happen to own

1963...

Easy... A Machine Silver 2007 is by far the best. I love it and no one can ever have it! EVER!
Honestly why worry you are talking tiny differences buy what you can find a good deal on in the color you want and love it. |
The newest one you can afford, maintained the best, with low miles and not beat on like a red headed step child (is the best)!
|
The best is the 06. It comes with the semi-optional spontaneous removable roof. Doesn't everyone want that in a vette?
|
Any Z06 is the best, really. I had an Evo IX MR before this, and I have to say- the passion I have for cars has only increased with owning a Corvette. They truly are something else.
|
2011 with Z7 package
If you are asking for the fastest, it would be the car described above. Not sure if it is the "best" though. It is also the most expensive by a country mile!
|
Buy the newest one you can afford. They are all basically the same. Transmission and driveline upgrades were in the 08+ models, which are worth considering.
|
What were the upgrades to the transmission and driveline in '08?
|
New tranny altogether, however, it has its share of known issues, which I've already seen. 2011 will be your best bet for best car...usually - latest years are simply better than previous.

Easy. 2009 Atomic Orange Mettalic Z06. Here's why:
AOM color is a bit loud, but turns heads like a ferrari, and the shading from that color shows off the lines better on the car. I think it actually makes the car look better than it really is. AOM ran from 2007-2009. However the TR6060 trans was introduced in 2008. So that eliminates the 2007. I think early TR6060's had some problems and were a bit clunky. Also, I believe the major supplier to the vette (Delco) was replaced by Bosch in 2009. My dad has a 2009 AOM Z and I have a 2008 AOM Z. I think I'd go with the 2009. There is a lot of minutea that would make this post unneccessarily long. |
thanks you guys for your expertise.. so a 2009 would be the earliest year to go to.. but wouldnt that z07 package and carbon help it a little faster maybe ? or not much?
i def understand about the lines.. with the coloring |

i def understand about the lines.. with the coloring The only place a Z07 optioned Z06 "might" be faster than a standard Z06 would be on a Road Course because of the better brake system. In a straight line, a Z07 optioned Z06 is just a hundred plus extra pounds to lug around. |
i see i didnt realize that.. so getting a z06 i just gotta decide if i want the collectible limited edition few made or just a good 2009 or newer i take it ... thanks guys any more info will be appreciated

The Z07 package is the one to have IMO, but since they're still so new, they were going for more than I wanted to spend.
So out of the non-Z07 Z06s, they are all about the same. Can't go wrong with any year Z06 IMO. If you want to dig into details... 2006s are the lightest of all Z06s. 08+ got a slightly stronger tranny, but gearing is the same. |

This was discussed previously about the extra weight of the Z07 package. Did we ever get a consensus or legit answer as I remember we had numbers from all over the place. FWIW the GVWR on my driver's door is 3666.
|
I would say 2007 or 2006 is the best year if your going to modify it without a doubt. Yah it has the T56 but they have been proven for a long time to be good transmissions. An RPM V T56 will do just fine when it comes to big power... if you want auto it doesn't matter what year as a conversion is a must. Best part is the 06 07 cars are in the 3200 range that is 450lbs lighter than some of the newer optioned ones. 450lbs is a LOT.

Been there done that..........it's kinda over rated. I'm just glad it didn't hit anyone when it came off and I was able to find it on the side of the interstate. This was actually in my base model. I never had that issue with one of my previous 06 Z06's but did with another one. Personally I really like the 08+ (which is what I currently have). Better trans and better interior. |
Mine!

Ah my bad that was a GVW quote above not curb. I am guessing most of the weight in the newer ones comes from the sound dampening etc then? Seems only about 50lbs on newer Z06s then.

2010=518 2011=904 2012=478 So in terms of numbers, you will find it much more difficult to get a good selection in 2010 model year, a lil better in '11, and worse in '12. Good Luck |

no, most of the increased weight on the newer ones is from the upgrades...ie, the updated Trans, the increased dry sump capacity, power hatch pull down, etc. worthwhile weight imo. |

quicker and more agile compared to earlier z06's like a 2009 ? |
Not the special carbon edition. Saved a couple of bucks and got the goodies though. Just the z07 and CFZ package wrapped in Inferno Orange. What a beast!

It's the quickest vette on the track. The big brake kit, the selective magnetic suspension, wide body stance and the carbon fiber aerodynamic kit really keeps this car planted.

Maybe owners of each year will post their trim level/options and the GVWR(located on driver's door) minus their max load(located on drivers door jam) and we can see the actual difference in the Z06's weight, year to year. My 2009 2LZ, NAV, Chromes has a GVWR of 3651-max load of 423 = 3228 lbs. |
Best year of the Z06? I'm going with the 09's and newer with the dry sump oil system. Actually, 2009's and the 2013's as those are what i own!

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-z...ight-list.html SUPER SPECIAL EDITION w/3080 Package. :D http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...6/af1c9606.jpg I'm JOKING, I'm JOKING!!!!!!!!!!!! It does weigh 3,080 though :D |
it's definitely subjective but i think the 09 would be. my reasoning: has all the 08 updates plus bluetooth. some might say the newer ones with launch control but i don't see that as such a big deal. second best is a late 08 cause it has all the mechanical updates but no bluetooth. this being said there really is no "BAD" z06....

2011 Z07 2LZ. GVWR 3666 Max Load 423. 3243 doing the math.
|
Of course since I own a 12 Z07 I think it is the best :D. I owned an 06 Z06 and my 2012 is a step or 2 above.I like the seats better and the suspension is waaaay better. With PTM it makes an average driver into a Tommy Milner.I really like the wheels on the 2011 Z07,but I like the wheels on the 12's even better, and they are lighter. Also having PSC tires right from the factory only on the 2012.

My car is an 06 2LZ and weighed 3,130 (just as the attached chart stated) on the same exact scale that now shows it weighing 3,080. after losing weight through attrition of just swapping factory parts out for performance parts. |
06 2LZ 3596 less 423 = 3173
|
The fastest one would be the one with the less gas in it lol.

Why? wouldn't the GVWR be the same for a 1, 2 or 3LZ?

The difference between ours is probably how much gas and washer fluid in our tanks. |

That's what I was trying to get from FRDnemesis. The GVWR is the max weight of the car including the car with full liquids, and cargo including a driver and passenger. You take the GVWR and subtract the max cargo(that includes driver/passenger) and you have the weight of the vehicle. My car weighs 1 lb more then yours with a GVWR of 3651. I have chrome wheels, do you?

as someone who's plannin to buy a Z06 and been researching. i would say 08-09 seem to be the best buys right now. the older ones aren't much cheaper and these have the mech upgrades and sometimes less miles.
