Gills instead of eggcrates, and I own a 1972!

AZDoug 03-03-2011 07:53 PM

Higher compression, and the four side vents are more masculine vs the egg crates which are more feminine, IMHO.

Though I like my '72.

Who said it's the best,69 owners?

I'm sure whatever year the said owner has will say the same be it a 70,71,72,78,etc

Rally68 03-03-2011 08:48 PM

I think you have a typo, you mean 68, right?

:iagree:

I chose 70 for the egg crates, higher back seats, and flares to address stone chips.

I think the 70 is the best year. Still had high compression in 70 plus it had fender flares and better seats

STINGRAY1WORD 03-03-2011 10:36 PM

I would consider the two ZL1's from 69 to be the best stingrays.

It is a tough choice, but I'm going with the 70 for the reasons stated above. On the other hand I like 69 also. damn it, can't make up my mind. Get one of each and solve your problem. :worthlessnopics:

Funny question. Does a shark have gills or egg crates?

i personaly like the 70 thru 72 the best. the flared fenders look much better. Nutsy.

LancePearson 03-04-2011 07:34 AM

Of the choices prefer the gills to the egg crates but actually prefer the open slots of my 76 to either. It's art, folks!

One question I wonder about.....why when they were modeled after a Mako Shark were some years of the C3's called either Sting Rays or Stingrays? Not even close to a Mako shark.

They made bunches and bunches of 69's. Of course that does not mean anything either. look at the 69 camaro, they made a quarter million of them and the camaros get higher and higher prices. but everybody loves a 69.

looking at that c3 prices thread, looks like the 70 finally overtook the 69.

The last year for the legendary 427. Also the only year for side exhaust and it was quickly cut short due to complaints. 1970 marked the beginning of the end for muscle cars in general. Sure, there were exceptions...but the direction was clear.

Besides, 1969 just sounds so much earlier than 1970...you know, back in "the sixties"

capevettes 03-04-2011 08:12 AM

68/69 are my favorites because you could get a 427
